| Banaticus01-10-07, 03:53 PM | I'll be playing a 3rd level character. There's already a rogueish character, a cleric and a fighter/wizard. I'm looking for a cool build that will be fun to play but that doesn't completely copy one of the already existing characters. Trouble is, they've pretty much already sown up the standard archetypes. The recent post, http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=769682 looked like fun -- I was considering a character like that. Bardic wizard? Bard 1/Wizard X for plenty of bluff/diplomacy/sense motive/etc.? Did I mention that it'll be in a Dragonlance world? I can, though, use about any WotC book or Soverign Press book. I only own WotC books, but I own about all of them so any cool stuff from any book would be appreciated. It's late in the Age cycle, so perhaps a non-evil draconian would be fun? |

| Banaticus01-10-07, 07:47 PM | I don't think they're very fun characters. Essentially, they're throwing out save/die options every round. +41 Diplomacy at 3rd level, +72 by 6th level: http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=452425 200+ at level 20: http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=371519 At 3rd level, I could turn everything from Hostile to Friendly and shortly thereafter, from Hostile to Helpful. He's still many levels away from being able to turn everyone from Hostile to Fanatic. I had a Star Wars character like that and I'm just kind of bored with that sort of character. I'm thinking that this time I might either go for a big fighter guy, or some sort of mimic character. |
| Bill Bisco: Average Adventurer01-10-07, 07:56 PM | How about Rogue 1/Druid 2 with Able Learner You get all the good skills for the rest of your career (Hide, Spot, move Silently, ect.), you get a good animal companion that will fight in melee better than most fighters, the ability to heal, summon, and fight in your own right. :) |
| Aegeu01-10-07, 08:42 PM | The party gish is going to be way behind the power curve until later levels. A big bad fighter type sounds like a good idea. |
| Jaisin01-10-07, 10:09 PM | Human - White Dragon Spawn. Buy off the LA by level 4 with the rules from UA. Go Sorcerer! |
| ThePrivateer01-11-07, 12:31 AM | Anthropomorphic Baleen Whale. Just because I'd love to see someone actually play one in their campaign, and your party will probably need a heavy hitter anyway. Failing that, maybe try out one of the stranger base classes introduced? Dragon Shaman wouldn't really step on any toes, but it's not too optimizable from what I understand. Are psionics allowed? How about Eberron's artificers, which are so powerful I hear they're actually worth the 20 levels? Also, nobody's said Druid 20 yet? I feel honored that it should be me. Edit: Note that Druid 20 doesn't infringe cleric role because it steps on the toes of all the other roles at once. *cough* |
| Banaticus01-12-07, 01:18 PM | "Rogue 1/Druid 2 with Able Learner" That sounds like a lot of fun. As it turns out I'll be playing this character in a regular DnD campaign instead of a Dragonlance one, but it still seems like a fun character. :) Thanks for the replies, everyone. |
