| kaiza11-09-06, 06:02 PM | What's the best 3rd party material from which take hints and ideas for an adventure? I'm searching for a campaign setting besides the most common ones... As for "best", I mean from a balance standpoint, otherwise I wouln't have post this here. I know Iron Heroes, which is full of flavour and not over/underpowered. Thank you, k. |
| allenchan11-09-06, 06:09 PM | Hints and adventure ideas? Dungeon magazine. Most 3rd party material contains more crunch. Overpowered/underpowered seems irrelevant if you're just looking for a basic plot arc. How, exactly, are these ideas supposed to be balanced? |

Of course you cannot balance ideas, what I meant is that I'm looking for an alternative campaign setting which has been tested and proved trustworthy and balanced like, for instance, Iron Heroes and Midnight (the only two non-WotC settings I know of). Thanks, k. |
| PhoenixInferno11-10-06, 03:43 AM | Dragonlance? |
| kaiza11-10-06, 03:52 AM | Dragonlance? Uh. Yes, you're right Phoenix, I always considered Dragonlance to be WotC even if it's not... a friend of mine would like to try and be the DM for a while, but he wanted us to play in an unusual campaign setting. We've been playing in FR for 5 years now. One of the players don't like Eberron, though the others do, so we eventually decided not to try it. The DM-to-be likes Ravenloft, so I hinted at the new adventure by WotC. He says that Dragonlance is a bit too "generic fantasy" like, whereas he would like a more particular, strange setting. k. |
| PhoenixInferno11-10-06, 03:54 AM | Rokugan? Star Wars! :) |
| X-Codes11-10-06, 04:07 AM | Rokugan? Star Wars! :) Star Wars is awesome, but I hate the Force Point and Dark Side Point mechanics. Heroes should win because they're legitimately better, not because the dark side makes evil suck. :P It also gets somewhat unbalanced when force-sensistives get involved, especially people who take levels in force classes and get the requisite feats for free. :( |

| kaiza11-10-06, 05:39 AM | Actually I like the oriental setting very much, though I don't know whether the other players share my same feeling. We are searching for a fantasy setting, maybe a bit "darker" than usual, or wierd, or I don't know. :) k. |
| DaveTheMagicWeasel11-10-06, 07:25 AM | Fantasy Flight Games' Midnight Setting is really good. Basically, the dark god (Sauron for all intents and purposes) won, and armies of orcs now rule the land. It sounds like a cheap LotR knock-off, but it really is superbly done. |
| Senevri11-10-06, 02:00 PM | Uresia: Grave of Heaven! Almost pure fluff, though. |
