My current GM has issued a challenge. The challenge is to make a 40th lvl charecter to be entered in a tournament. There will be 4 players making 2 characters each. The GM will make 8 characters in 1 on 1 battles at random in about 2 weeks. The rules are any characters out of main the main books including forgotten realms any class or prestege class. Normal ecl races are available such as Drow, Teifling, etc..but no optional ECL races such as Giant, Dragons, etc and low powered templates are also available. Our vacationing GM is playing and has boasted that his characters will triumph over us all, so I'm looking for some suggestions from you guys to finally get back at him for wrongful player character deaths rapes suicides posessions incarcerations train-runnings and donkey-punches. I have this post in the epic threads as well but I didn't know which catagory this would best go under.

What kind of characters are you looking for?
Do you have any build ideas of your own?

Make a 5th lvl kobold and tell him you'll beat him with that. ;)

Well I was thinking about about maybe a fighter(20 fighter/16 lvl chosen of Lithander) from the woc board but open to creative insight. I've played mostly fighters, barbarians, and clerics but like I said open to suggestions.

Make a Cleric with the Initiate of Mystra feat. As soon as you're epic, take Permanent Emanation (Antimagic Field). Since you can cast spells at a lower caster level than your current CL if you so desire, just cast it at a nice low level so that you can always make your caster level check to cast in your antimagic field. Then just watch as your enemies suddenly lose access to all of their buffs and magic equipment when they approach you, while you on the other hand hit them with twinned maximized flame strikes.

The one thing to be careful about here is if your opponent also has an AMF out. Then you actually need to worry about rolling your CL check to cast.

Been working on this for a while as I watched tv so I'm just letting you know that I'm not ripping off Zaxter. :)

This is just off the top of my head, but I think it has potential.

Be an Illumian with the Aesh-Krau sigil.

Be cleric of mystra 5/dweomerkeeper 10/something that grants the trickery domain (or access to time stop). Get as many epic feats as possible.

Take the Initiate of Mystra and Brutal Throw.

For epic feats take:
Permanent Emanation: Antimagic Field
Permanent Emanation: Consumptive Field, Greater
Automatic Quicken x 3?
Improved Spell Capacity x 5?
Multispell x3?

The basic theme is that the Permanent Consumptive field will give you an effective caster level of 60 and an arbitrarily large strength score. AeshKrau Illumians base their bonus spells per day off of their strength score, so you will have an arbitrarily large amount of spells you can cast each day. You will need a wisdom of at least 24, but that shouldn't be too hard since you can use free miracle spells. The single most important thing is having a high initiative. If you win init you can cast three quickened Mordenkainen's Disjunction spells. This should wipe out any antimagic field your opponent might have (94% chance). Then throw some javelins. With Brutal Throw you should be able to hit since your attack bonus will be arbitrarily high. Your damage should be astronomical as well. If they are still alive use your last quicken spell from that round to cast Time Stop (assuming you find a way in the 25 levels after cleric and dweomerkeeper to obtain the trickery domain).

Once you are in the time stop you can buff up any spells you want and you can pretty much take your time about it since you can just cast a quickened time stop every other round. Between Initiate of Mystra and your obscenely high caster level, you can do all of this while contained in your permanent antimagic field. Once you cast every single persistable buff spell you can find that will stack, you need to cast some battlefield control spells to keep your enemy from moving around too much. Also, any spell that will conceal you so the enemy can't attack you would be good. Once you've done all that, spend 150 rounds casting Quickened Extended Summon Monster 8 spells. Summon 1d4 giant constrictors off of the summon monster 6 summoning list. Then let your time stop lapse.

If you are lucky the 600d4+600 summoned snakes will kill the enemy. Then you can shout, "I want these monster fiendish snakes off the material plane!"

On second thought, the best way to win an ECL 40 Battle Royale is to skip the D&D session that week and go see a movie .

If you want quick acces to ANY domain just take the feat in the complete divine that grants you your choice of domain spells once per day... Maybe it's in the complete arcane... but just take a quick look... it'll be worth it. (I'm at work and so don't have any books handy)

can u buff yourself before battle??... If so just build an epic caster and buff yourself with persistent spells (Foresight, Visage of the Deity, etc etc.) or give lots of levels to concordant killer (just kidding :P)

Ok just to let everyone know our characters do get the money for their lvl as it says in the epic book(16million 600thousand each character) and we can be buffed before the fight. Also our vactioning GM(lets call him ED) was originally against the idea because he felt we were no challenge to him, and he akined it to boxing a woman. If he beat us there would be no real pleasure and we beat him it would be like getting beat by an untrained girl were his exac words so i need some good stuff.

Do you know what the arena will be like? Hard to optimize something for one battle if we don't know what the field of battle looks like.

Since your enemies are NPCs, go for diplomacy (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?postid=5341722).

Drow Bard 8/Paladin 2/Sublime Chord 29 (LA Buyoff, -9k xp) (assuming +1 Bonus Feat/3 levels)

32 Point Buy: 9 Strength, 14 Dexterity, 15 Constitution, 13 Intelligence, 10 Wisdom, 16 Charisma
Racial Mods: 9 Strength, 16 Dexterity, 13 Constitution, 15 Intelligence, 10 Wisdom, 18 Charisma
Level-Up Points: 9 Strength, 16 Dexterity, 13 Constitution, 15 Intelligence, 10 Wisdom, 28 Charisma
Inherant Bonuses: 14 Strength, 20 Dexterity, 18 Constitution, 20 Intelligence, 14 Wisdom, 32 Charisma
"Great Charisma" Feats: 14 Strength, 20 Dexterity, 18 Constitution, 20 Intelligence, 14 Wisdom, 42 Charisma

Leadership + Epic Leadership (Score 60) + Legendary Commander =...
3,000 1st, 300 2nd, 150 3rd, 75 4th, 37 5th, 18 6th, 9 7th, 4 8th, 2 9th, 1 10th
or, in mitigating factors...
3,300 1st-level spells, 225 2nd-level spells, 55 3rd-level spells, 13 4th-level spells, 3 5th-level spells
or, in Spellcraft DC reductions...
-4,408
Lets make that a bonus to the check for simplicity.

Base Spellcraft modifier: +47, +4,455 for this spell.
The spell...
Fortify Seed: DC 17
Duration +700%: +14 (31)
Increase Intelligence by 2,213 (Enhancement Bonus): +4,424 (4,455)

Cast it, next spell...
Base Spellcraft modifier now: +1,153, +5,561 for this spell
Fortify Seed: DC 17
Duration +700%: +14 (31)
Increase Charisma by 2,766 (Enhancement Bonus): +5,530 (5,561)

Repeat for the other stats, this assumes that you aren't gathering more followers after enhancing your Charisma (which is, in theory, possible, depending on how long it takes to gather ~138,300 level-appropriate, spellcasting followers).

Cast those 6 epic buffs in order, starting with Intelligence, three days before battle. Then, right before battle cast Harmonize from Races of Stone. In battle, you now have a +1,388 initiative modifier, about 54,252 HP, about +2,850 to all saving throws... you get the idea...
Anyway, first round use two shots of Song of Cosmic Fire amplified by Words of Creation. You deal 4d20+5,572 untyped damage with a reflex save DC 1430 for half. Spell Resistance does not apply, energy resistance/immunity does not apply, damage reduction/immunity does not apply.

EDIT: Oh crap... I forgot to add in the bonus from Legendary Commander. Should I even bother, or has the point been made?

Damn, that was more or less my idea, but the forums were down. If you want a specific build I need to know how ability scores are to be generated, and if you are to make a 40th ECL character, or a character with so many xp. If the former you can spend a great deal of xp before hand and be 40th lvl, otherwise your level might not be as high. Thanks.

40th level human fighter!

You dont get epic spells...

You dont get permanent antimagic fields...

You dont get divine metamagic...

You don't even get frenzy or wildshape or rage...

But you get craploads of feats, feats, feats, and more feats!!!

P.S. Don't expect to actually win using a 40th level fighter unless everyone else is highly magic dependant and the field gets covered with tons of antimagic fields, which is actually pretty likely.

Since epic spells are an automatic win for whoever uses them I'll assume they're banned. Otherwise your current GM is just taking the mickey.

Easy method is the good old Word of [alignment] spells with a high caster level. High caster levels are most easily acquired via Epic Heighten and Earth Spell (races of stone) along with an Incantatix to apply the metamagic. Mix classes to desired effect, all you're looking for is a very, very high spellcraft check.
