| TheErsatzFacsimileOfMe06-09-05, 11:53 AM | I'm about to start a campaign where all the PCs are gestalt. I would like some input as to what your favorite gestalt builds are; and for what reasons. Builds that go well beyond 4th level are welcome. All of your advice will be greatly appreciated, and thanks in advance. A few house rules before we start: 1. "Level dipping" must be kept at a 3 lvl minimum (if you start a class you have to take at least 3 levels before switching to a new class) 2. PrCs may only be taken/advanced one at a time. 3. No more than 4 classes total (including classes and PrCs) ======================================== ============== Some of my favorites so far are these: 1 Rogue/1 Ranger 2 Rogue/2 Ranger 3 Rogue/3 Ranger 4 Rogue/3 Ranger/1 Fighter I was thinking of taking the level of fighter first, but then I'd have to advance 3 levels before I could get TWF and Sneak Attack, which I'd rather have up front. Another build which has I've taken interest into as of late has been this: 1 Rogue/1 Soceror 2 Rogue/2 Soceror 3 Rogue/3 Soceror 3 Rogue/4 Soceror/1 Ranger That way I'd get SA, arcane and divine spells...but, I'd be slightly hurting for HP which I like. Another build I've been thinking about but can't work my mind around would be something of a "skill-monger" in the social-skills (example: 4 Bard/3 Rogue/1 Soceror) But, I'm not sure how to work that one out correctly without nerfing myself. |

| cvazi06-09-05, 01:21 PM | psion4/wilder4 |
| fireangel3706-09-05, 04:23 PM | I've been wanting to try out a warmage/favored soul for a while now. The charisma synergy looks like it'd be nice and you'd have a lot of spells, even though they'd be somewhat limited in scope. Just for fun, you could do a fighter/marshal for the ultimate leader-type character. Half elf, with the helf only feats in RD to get that nice diplomacy check of 21+CHA at fourth level (and you can reroll every check if you want). EDIT: Add to that a druid 20//Fighter 5/Warshaper 5/Master of Many Forms 10. Wild shaping fiend. You can sub in any full BAB class for fighter and get the same effect. And I'd alternate levels in warshaper and MoMF every so often. |
| Undead Fred06-09-05, 05:00 PM | If you want to go skill-monkey, Wizard 4/Rogue 4 or Psion 4/Rogue 4 is quite nice. Have a very high INT to max out your skills and spells. |
| Rulebook06-09-05, 06:10 PM | no more than 4 classes eh? Wizard3/Cleric3, Mystic Theurge1/Psion1 |
| Axle_Steelcat06-09-05, 06:31 PM | Can't take MT in a gestalt game - sorry. Not allowed (its broken). Can you take Flaws? (since gestalt is an UA thing) -- The favored Soul/Warmage is nice - or Favored Soul/Battle Sorcerer, really limited but also get armored casting. -- 4th level Warlocks get "Take 10" on UMD rolls. This is nice if you can take advantage of it. Barbarian2/Fighter2 + Warlock4 If you have 16 CHA or take a feat to give you some bonus to UMD, you can easily use any wand (DC20) without having to roll. Bah - just read your "anti-dipping" rule - that blows that. Try - Paladin of Freedom4/Warlock4 for CHA synergy, saves, abilities, etc. (PoF is in UA) If you want to be social on top of that, take Beguiling Influence. +6 Bluff, Intimidate, Diplomacy Without feats thats +13 +CHA Mod to Diplomacy (respectible). |
| PonTelon06-10-05, 01:03 AM | Just ran a level 6 Gestalt game. Some of my favorites: Druid(Spontaneous option)/Barbarian of the Boar. Major raging in Lion or Bear form. Of course, you wouldn't get this yet as a level 4 character, but fun at higher levels. Another I liked was a Gaara of the Sand build I did(from Naruto) of Spirit Shaman/Psion. Nice varying abilities and really good. I liked playing him alot. The PCs were Ninja/Sorcerer(not as cool as it first sounds), a Scout/Rogue(Actually rather nice, despite the overlap) and a Warlock/Hexblade(REALLY good flavor. Also, not a bad melee thanks to Hexblade's full BAB and decent HP(d10s I believe) her saves were good and her eldritch blast helped when her scimitar wasn't enough. Honestly, from that game, I think the Warlock/Hexblade and Druid/Barb were the best characters, as both had high HP(d12s and d10 respectively) high BAB(both get full BAB), decent saves(Will and Fort for both of them) some skills that overlapped, and 4+Int for the druid/barb and I cannot remember how many skills the Warlock/Hex got. I think a measly 2+Int. Another bonus was their fighting capabilities. the Warlock/Hex would curse the enemy and then either go in with Scimitar raised or use Eldritch blast to soften up a powerful opponent. At 4th level you should get the first of Hex's spells. The Druid/Barb could even use a club and get nice bonuses to their attack via spells, or summon to get flanking. Though wild shape will be level 5 when raging will really be nice, raging after casting buff spells is always nice. Problem is that using healing spells is nearly impossible while raging. That is why the Vigor spells come in handy. These were all used in game so I can tell you from experience how these worked out. Of course, that was a micro campaign(only like 4 sessions long lol) so I don't have a total picture of the best and worst of gestalt. |
| midaro06-10-05, 01:05 AM | Do Gestalt characters take XP penalties like regular characters? |
| ksbsnowowl06-10-05, 09:41 AM | Some of my favorites: Druid(Spontaneous option)/Barbarian.I totally agree here, especially if you can take the Snow Tiger Berserker feat from UE. Pounce all the time in an animal form.....yes, thank you! |
| Aramas06-10-05, 02:21 PM | Warlock 4 / Scout 4 Just be straight warlock and scout. Very good synergy here. Kinda low HPs, but you'll be moving / flying and blasting from afar anyway. |
