| Mordeeb09-12-05, 01:19 AM | i am new to the game but here it goes, i built a human cleric of 5th level for a campaign. i am wondering what the best feats would be to take? i have extend spell, extra turning, reach spell, divine(reachspell), divine(extendspell) and quicken spell. i took the divine metamagics so i can burn turning attempts to use the feats for basicly free but i am wondering what i sould do i have war and planing for my domains. i should have 7 feats beacuse the dm is allowing 2 flaws as described in unearthed arcana. i am new and trying to make the best of my toon thanks |

If you can scrape together enough turn attempts you can then use Anyspell in your 3rd level Domain slot to memorize the 2nd level Wraithstrike (Complete Adventurer) and Persist it so that all of your melee attacks for the day are touch attacks. If you can get one more Persist spell out (requires another 7 turn attempts so you may need 2 extra turnings or one hell of a Charisma) you can cast a Persistent Mass Lesser Vigor to give 2 of your party members (or even yourself and a select friend) Fast Healing 1 all day. Later on with Greater Anyspell as your 6th level Domain slot you can take the 5th level Draconic Polymorph (Draconomicon) and DM Persist that all day. Or if you don't have access to the Draconomicon, you can always use the regular Polymorph. Again, if you can scrape together the turn attempts, or better yet, have access to the book Libris Mortis for Nightsticks, you can really go hog-wild with the DM Persists. At 12th level you can be a War Troll (Monster Manual 3) all day long and only have to make touch attacks to hit. Just be sure to buy a couple of Rings of Counterspelling to defend against Dispel Magic. Also, depending upon alignment, you might look into the Church Inquisitor from CD since it's so easy to get into (except the LN or LG alignment restriction) for divine spellcaster progression and some bonus abilities. You can get into this class at Cleric level 3. Later the Ruathar from Races of the Wild is nice and easy to get into. It also continues caster progression and gives a boost to your godawful reflex saves. If you have a specific deity that you must worship and you can't get access to just any domains you want. Then either look for a deity with Spell, or scrap that idea line altogether and look into going into Divine Disciple. That's a nice divine PrC that eventually makes you an Outsider. This can be tons of fun with Polymorph spells since you can now take Outsider forms like the Kelvezu (Monster Manual 2) or Leonals, Astral Devas, Planetars and the like. Outsider forms tend to have disproportionately high stats and natural armor which make them great for Polymorphing. At 12th Level that Kelvezu form would get you a base of 35 AC not including any armor you might wear (since it's a medium sized humanoid shaped form you would keep all your gear although Armor could limit its impressive 31 Dex.) With a Monk's belt and a 20 Wis that's at least 40 AC at 12th level. Add Wraithstrike, a flanking buddy and your new +8d6 sneak attack damage (from Kelvezu) and you're touch attacking for some serious damage. Just throwing out some expanded ideas. I know they're somewhat outside the scope of your original questions and may not be appropriate for your game, but I always get excited about this character concept because I've never been allowed to actually try it. :weep: (grumbles about DMs that actually want a balance of power...) (edit: oh, and since you have access to Unearthed Arcana, you might look into the Cloistered Cleric. Your BaB will suffer as will your Armor choices, but you will get drastically increased skills per level, a better skill list, an extra domain, and lore. In my theoretical builds I tend to like this choice since I'll be Wraithstriking or Divine Powering so the lower BaB won't really hurt. Also, I remembered that you can't Persist regular Polymorph, so you'll need Draconic in order to abuse DM Persist.) |
| Eidrog09-12-05, 03:19 AM | Well, this thread has helped give me some ideas! Thanks. :) Where is the spell domain located? Which Book? |
| dirkformica09-12-05, 05:32 AM | Player's Guide to Faerun. For those outside the realms who want to incorporate those added domains to the Greyhawk setting, here's a link to Sean K Reynolds suggestions for adding the new domains. (http://www.seankreynolds.com/rpgfiles/we/greyhawkdeities.html) Edit: Also, just a random thought, but if you can't get access to the Spell Domain, depending upon how your DM rules Extra Spell from Complete Arcane, you could use that to pickup Draconic Polymorph and/or Wraithstrike (although two feats for two spells seems pretty crazy to me, and even as powerful as Draconic Polymorph is, it might be a little much for a feat once you begin to get hit with somewhat regular Dispel Magic checks. And beside, Divine Power works pretty good coupled with monstrous strength anyway.) |
| Tacomannerism09-13-05, 10:42 AM | just a note, given your 2 extra feats, plus 1 for being a human, you should only have 5 feats at level 5, correct? That might throw a kink into your plans |
| Mordeeb09-13-05, 03:33 PM | no i have 7 feats at 5th leve because i took two flaws as described in complete arcana. one for being first level ,one for being human, one feat from two domains, one for 4th level and two feats for two flaws. what book is that spell domain in? |

That is correct, the two feats you receive for your domains are extend spell and weapon focus with your deity's favored weapon. Those 2, plus: 1. extra turning, 2. reach spell, 3. divine(reachspell), 4. divine(extendspell) and 5. quicken spell do make up your seven. I was just trying to make sure that you realized that you only really have 5 that you can play with. Also, you get a feat at level 3, not level 4, which is something to be aware of as you play (unless you are starting at level 5, then it doesn't matter) |
