5th Level Swordsage Maneuvers [Archive] - Wizards Community

11-28-06, 01:27 PM I'm am in the process of making a 5th level Swordsage that specializes in fire and speed (basically Desert Wind, Diamond Mind and Shadow Hand schools), are there any maneuvers anyone would say I should definitley have?

I like: Burning Blade
Strength Draining Strike
Insightful Strike
Wolf Fang Strike (TWF)
Cloak of Deception (+Hide +attacking = yum)

Nothing you absolutely need. The above is more of a stealthy TWFer. I'm also not a huge fan of Desert Wind.

11-28-06, 02:45 PM I personally like Firey Riposte for low-level characters, 4d6 immediate action fire damage with a touch attack can make a big difference when enemies only have a few HD.
Death Mark is another fun maneuver for low level, and another one that would be good to switch out later.

Shadow Jaunt is one of the obvious choices
Cloak of Deception can be nice, especially if you've taken Assasin's Stance

You said 5th level Swordsage, thus only 3rd level maneuvers.
Jaunt is the only one you can get so far.

One combo that I would work toward with a Swordsage specializing in the schools you've chosen requires Assassin's Stance (ShadowHand 3), Cloak of Deception (Shadow Hand 2?), and Desert Tempest (Desert Wind 6) - yes, I realize the culmination of the combo is a ways off yet.

As you approach a group of foes, assume your Assassin's Stance (this works best if they are lined up, such as troops in formation, but they don't need to be). On the round you strike, initiate your Cloak of Deception boost, and then the Desert Tempest Strike. You get to sneak attack each foe that you pass as you move. Unless they can see invisibility, they do not get AoO's against you for your movement, and you gain a +2 bonus to your attacks for being invisible. All your attacks are made at your highest attack bonus.

Anything you can do to increase your speed makes this combo affect more targets.
