Hi! We're about to do a 5th level plane-hopping campaign based out of the World Serpent Inn. Basically, anything goes, for the most part. But I only have the 3.5 Core, Races, and Complete books, so I'd like to stick to those. Rolled 4d6, dropped the lowest die. Begin with 9000 gps.

Here's what I got so far:

Chaotic Good Human Warlock 5
AC: 19 (+5 chain shirt +1 of light fortification, +3 Dex, +1 Ring of Protection +1)
HP: 36 (max at 1st level and rolled 5, 2, 2, 1)
Str 13
Dex 16
Con 18 (boosted from 17)
Int 15
Wis 13
Cha 15

Feats:
Point Blank Shot
Precise Shot
Spell Penetration

Skills:
Bluff 8 ranks
Concentration 8 ranks
Intimidate 2
Know arc 5
Know rel 2
Know the planes 2
Spellcraft 5
Use Magic Device 8

Invocations:
Eldritch Spear
Entropic Warding
Baleful Utterance

Detect Magic, DR 1/cold iron, Deceive Item.

Blast +6 ranged touch (3d6 20/x2) 250 range
Mace +4 melee (1d8+1 20/x2)
Dagger +4 melee (1d4+1 19-20/x2)

Items: +1 Chain Shirt of Light Fortification, Ring of Protection +1, Wand of Cure Light Wounds, heavy mace, dagger, almost 2000 gp.

Any suggestions?

Spending way too much on that AC I think.

Read here (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/tt/20050321a) and here (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/tt/20050328a).

Light Fortification is overspending at this time. Between Fel Flight (available next level) and Entropic Shield (available now) you really shouldn't be critted all that much at all, if even attacked. As levels go on, you should be getting attacked even *less* because your enemies will be grappled by chilling tentacles or getting bouced through walls of perilous flame with repelling blasts while you're invisible, etc etc.

I think you did very well on Feats and all. X-Codes already mentioned the money problem.

I'm not sure if it's different in your games, but in mine, 60 ft and 120 ft don't make that big of a difference, usually. Most of the time, you are within at least 60 ft of a target. That being said, I'd drop Eldritch Spear for Beguiling Influence, Earthen Grasp, or Spiderwalk.

Spell Penetration. I personally wouldn't go for this one. How often are you planning on going against creatures with high SR? If you expect a lot of them, then take the feat. But very few creatures have SR at Challenge Rating 5.

Instead think about going Weapon Focus(Ranged spell) and then at 6th level Ranged Spell Specialization(in Complete Arcane).

Or, grab the feat Obtain Familiar. Many think that Familiars are weak, but there are threads upon threads of good ways to use them. And what is a Warlock without a raven/bat/black cat anyway?

I have qualms with your feats/invocations, but I would consider the following:

Items:

Lesser Chasuble of Fell Power
Wand of Cure Light Wounds
Chain Shirt
Misc gear

Feats:

6th level - Maximize Spell-Like (EB) or Improved Flight

Invocations:

At 6th level, I would drop Baleful Utterance to pick up See the Unseen. At higher levels the bad guys aren't going to fail that Will save very often, and you are going to want to be able to see your targets. Fell Flight may not be a bad Lesser Invocation to take at 6th, and with Improved Flight you would have perfect maneuverability.
