| Irian04-14-06, 11:00 AM | Hello everyone! After some extemely bad luck with rolling stats, I was wondering: What kind of character would you create if you rolled 6, 10, 10, 11, 12, 14 for the stats of your new character? How could you optimize that? Irian |
| Super Rats04-14-06, 11:07 AM | Ask the DM if you could reroll your ability scores. |
| Karm Hundredfists04-14-06, 11:10 AM | Ask if you can take a special race with buyoff? Or try to get +2 to the important stat of 14 and make a single stat dependant character. It could be fun to roleplay a character who is bad at everything except for one thing. |
| Medicelious-Melharmonac04-14-06, 11:13 AM | It's not all that horrible STR 10 DEX 10 CON 11 INT 12 WIS 14 CHA 6 Druid + Wildshape = Not horrendous |
| Fingers Boggis04-14-06, 11:19 AM | Wildshape ranger+natures warrior/wildshaper+ master of many forms there was a thread here a while ago making a "useless" character with stats worse than the ones you've rolled. Im pretty sure the above was similar to what was decided and made for a pretty good melee character. I dont think theres much you can do on the spell casting front tho Fingers |
| TinManFan04-14-06, 11:41 AM | Going by the rules, you're allowed to re-roll that bad boys. PHB states if your overall modifier is not a +2 (+3 w/ -2 so overall +1) you are allowed to re-roll. However you do not need to. Just pick a class that does not require a lot of good stats. Fighter, Rogue, Ranger and MAYBE Artificer. Fighter just put the 14 in Str and the 12 in con, make sure that 6 goes into CHA and yer good. Ranger needs the 14 in Dex and go the archery route. The dex helps with AC since your limited to the armors that don't hose you w/ your skills. Speaking of, that 12 should go into con or int, the 11 in the one you didn't put the 12 into and again, the 6 to cha. Rogue. 14 dex, 12 con, make sure you have a non negative in cha, you can get a dager thrower going nicely. Artificer. Put that in so you can make stat items to boost said stats. 14 in Int, 12 in Cha (To help w/ the UMD checks) and the 6 should go to Wis. They have good wis saves and not too many skills (Useful ones) that require wis. To be on the safe side, go Human and blow a feat on Iron Will just to be safe. |
| Irian04-14-06, 11:57 AM | Thanks everyone! I'll look into your suggestions. |
| xanadu04-14-06, 12:21 PM | druid doesn't work now because wildshape uses your con modifier, not what you turn into. fighters need str & con, wis is nice because their will save is bad, dex is handy for combat, and 13 int is nice for combat expertise and such - it is actually a MAD class. stay away from combat and be a psion is what i'd do. vigor helps offset your lousy con |
| SoulLord04-14-06, 12:48 PM | here's what I woluld do 6, 10, 10, 11, 12, 14 Sun elf wizard int 14 +2 race = 16 wis 6 cha 10 str 10 dex 11 con 12 -2 race = 10 lvl 4th,8th,12th,16th increase int and at 20th increase dex. ends like int 20 +5 all spells available wis 6 offset by wiz good saves cha 10 str 10 dex 12 con 10 |
| saru04-14-06, 01:02 PM | you could be a sorceror : Str 6 Dex 11 Con 12 Int 10 Wis 10 Cha 14 |
| ck2001wendt04-14-06, 01:30 PM | I'd go with a dumb-as-rocks Dwarven Fighter or Barbarian Str 14 Dex 11 Con 14 Int 6 Wis 10 Cha 8 |
| Phantom04-14-06, 02:40 PM | I would go with the Warlock. STR 6 DEX 14 (or 11) CON 12 INT 10 WIS 10 CHA 11 (or 14) |
| Surreal04-14-06, 02:46 PM | I second the warlock. They don't really need any stats to be viable. Drop that 14 either into Dex or Cha depending if you want to blast a bit more or be a social warlock. |
| The_WhiteRabbit04-14-06, 03:42 PM | How about a dwarven druid? Possibly even a wild dwarf (from Races of Faerun). STR 10 DEX 10 CON 14 INT 11 WIS 14 CHA 4 You could explain the low charisma as being anti-social, someone who tends not to talk to people and when he does, he's very blunt and direct. The CHA of 4 will cause you a little bit of trouble with animal training at first, but not a ton. After 5th level, you can go to Master of Many Forms to focus on your wildshape if you don't want to worry about casting as much. |
| Colyn_Kell04-14-06, 03:51 PM | Make a halfling monk. Put your worst stat into dex, and your next worst into str. Get into combat as much as you can, and soon enough youll be rolling stats again. :D |
| X-Codes04-14-06, 08:54 PM | Reroll. By the rules in the PHB you are allowed to reroll, and if the DM says you can't then you really ought to consider playing another game. (25 PB is fine, but you're barely any better than the non-elite array. I.E. Those stats do not a hero make, and you are supposed to be playing a heroic character, aren't you?) If you can't reroll and this is the last DM around that you can play with, then play a cowardly, naiive non-combat rogue. Goblin Rogue 10/Exemplar 10 S: 10 (8), D: 11 (13), C: 10, I: 14, W: 6, Ch: 12 (10) You can sling a rock alright in combat if you can't do anything else. Otherwise just pack wands and wizard scrolls. You should be a good trapsmith and semi-decent scout (although your spot and listen mods will suck early with that 6 wisdom). Take the Run feat at level 1 and you'll survive just fine (you don't need to outrun that dragon, just the rest of the party =P). EDIT: This honestly makes pretty good for RP as well. You're the sniveling little wimp that the party fighter picks on and bullies into being nice to the rest of the party and, in exchange for not just running off, you get a fair share of the loot. |
| ninjarabbit04-14-06, 09:44 PM | half orc fighter str 16 dex 10 con 12 int 8 wis 10 cha 4 |
| Bard-of-all-trades04-14-06, 11:48 PM | You could go with Inherited Lycanthropy: Werewolf. This allows you to add +2 to your base Wis and the other racial abilities. So you could possibly have an 8, 10, 10, 11, 12, 14 for stats. The in Hybrid/ Animal form you would get to add +2 Str, +4 Dex and Con. And it's only a +3 LE. OR You could go with playing a Janni. You get +6 Str, +4 Int, +4 Wis, +4 Dex, +2 Con and +2 Cha. This is a +5 LE. Whole slew of coll racial abilities. OR You could play a Solar. They give you +18 Str, +12 Int, +14 Wis, +10 Dex, +10 Con, +14 Cha. Skills and racial abilities abound. Unfortunately they don't give a LE for this race (I wonder why??!?). Just something to think on. |
| X-Codes04-15-06, 03:22 AM | Bard, don't be sarcastic on the internet. I doubt even 10% of all sarcasm on the internet is properly interpeted as sarcasm the first go-through. If you aren't being sarcastic, theres no LA for Solars because their LA would make them epic (their HD actually makes them post-epic already). In an epic game, balance is what you make of it. Characters can already to absolutely insane stunts which rather makes the point of LA and CR moot (not entirely, mind you, but almost). |
| Boondoggle04-15-06, 03:40 AM | I would go with the Warlock. STR 6 DEX 14 (or 11) CON 12 INT 10 WIS 10 CHA 11 (or 14) QFT! |
| King_Bulba04-15-06, 03:50 AM | Hello everyone! After some extemely bad luck with rolling stats, I was wondering: What kind of character would you create if you rolled 6, 10, 10, 11, 12, 14 for the stats of your new character? How could you optimize that? Irian Doesn't matter. First action with the char I do is coup de grace myself. Then again my DM wouldn't force me to use those stat. Ask your DM about rerolling. |
| Mist of Shadows04-15-06, 03:57 AM | I would ask if I could steal some points from the 6 to put the 14 up higher. I would play a wizard with an eye to becoming a lich. Maybe a lich that worships vecna or something so I could use the book of the stilted tongue. |
| X-Codes04-15-06, 04:01 AM | Doesn't matter. First action with the char I do is coup de grace myself. Then again my DM wouldn't force me to use those stat. Ask your DM about rerolling. Of course! If your DM says you can't coup de gras yourself, then do as such: Put the 6 in Constitution and the 14 in Charisma and be a half-elf Bard. Buy a coffin from an undertaker for no more than 30 gold. Run naked to the nearest Wizard's tower and buy 7 CL 1 Magic Missles from them (costs 70 gold). Thats an automatic 14 damage, even if they're all 1's. You are now dead, and since you are unwilling to be revived, you can't be. Reroll. |
| FiestFan04-15-06, 07:07 AM | Githzerai Psychic Warrior STR 11 DEX 16 CON 12 INT 8 WIS 14 CHA 6 Flaw: Murky-eyed. Feats: PBShot, Psionic Shot, Improved Toughness. Focus on Ranged weapons and beg for LA buy-off. |
| Fugazi04-15-06, 09:52 AM | Commoner, Skill Focus handle animal and perhaps basketweaving too. But I'd go for the druid ;) |
| Irian04-15-06, 12:56 PM | Wow, I didn't expect that many replies. Thanks for all your help. |
| Aloïsius04-15-06, 01:48 PM | If your DM does not let you re-roll, then just play the crappiest possible character. A paladin or a monk, by example. An aged one, with -6 in each physical stat. |
| Mist of Shadows04-15-06, 02:04 PM | Ohhh an aged necro :) Con 1, Dex 4, Str 4, Int 17, Wis 14, cha 15, As soon as possible buy a scroll of polymorph other and get a different body. That's not a bad idea so the new body until you can become undead. Problem solved for the most part :) |
| Khazra Reborn04-15-06, 03:50 PM | necropolitan monk. Stats: str 12 dex 11 con - (6) int 10 cha 10 wis 14 Created by a necropolitan wizard who sacraficed his + spell from necromancy school for enhanced undead (as per UA). | JosephKell04-15-06, 03:53 PM | Just do a Raistlin type character. Low Strength, Low Constitution... I would focus on True Strike + Orb spells... The whole point being that you try not to attract any attention until JUST after you nuke a guy. Maybe do your best to max out Intimidate and Bluff... ("I'm not a threat..." *super nuke a guy* "Who else wants some?") Craft Wonderous Item is a must so that you can make attribute boost items. FYI: Raistlin had the worst stats ever, but he became the strongest character in Dragonlance (originally) because a player stuck with it. |
| Mist of Shadows04-15-06, 04:31 PM | I like Raistlin, he took out a world :) I would go with the caster type of character. Go with my stats for aged steal a new body then have the necropolitan thing done :) |
| King_Bulba04-15-06, 08:02 PM | Ohhh an aged necro :) Con 1, Dex 4, Str 4, Int 17, Wis 14, cha 15, As soon as possible buy a scroll of polymorph other and get a different body. That's not a bad idea so the new body until you can become undead. Problem solved for the most part :) I love it. 1 con LOL |
| Khazra Reborn04-15-06, 08:56 PM | except when you get to high level and disintergreate spells.... |
