Ok, so I haven't played a PC in years, been DMing since I'm the only one with enough patience to do so. I was putting together a battle for my group when I stumbled upon an interesting feat combo that could potentially lead to some massive damage from even a poorly equiped fighter.

What you need
6th level fighter
Power Attack
Improved Sunder
Improved Bullrush
Combat Brute
Monkey Grip (for huge weapon instead of large)
any other feats to add damage to using a scythe.

Ok, so, without sitting here and writing out what Combat Brute does in total, it gives you a few tactical moves you can pull off.

One allows you to triple the each point of attack you take off for power attack as long as you charged the round before and take at least a -5 and are using a two-hander (one hander makes it's 1.5 instead of 3)

Example: -5 on your attack = 15 more damage.

Another one allows you to get a +1 to damage for every square you push the person back in a bullrush. Nowhere does it say that your initial charge can't be a bullrush to envoke the above ability.

So, you get a fighter, 20 str (half orc) with a scythe (x4 crit).

First round you charge and bullrush...for calculations let's assume you rolled a perfect 20 (so 25 with ability mod) and your opponent rolls a 1...let's assume he's small, with bad grapple, and ends up with a total of 0 on his grapple.

This means you've moved him back 5 squares, extra +5 to damage next round.

Next round you take a max power attack for 6th, so -6 to attack and you land a crit.

So the calculation assuming max rolls, for the sake of consistancy.

Weapon damage = 12
Str damage = 7
Combat Brute Bullrush extra damage = 5
Combat Brute Power Attack exta damage = 18

Nowhere in these feats does it say any of this extra damage does not multiply on a crit...so 12+7+5+18 =42

42x4 = 168 damage not even using a magic weapon and still 42 damage even if you don't crit.

Have a missed anything, misinterpreted a rule or screwed up in any other way?

You could try this method also for High Single Shot Damage

Mounted Combat, Ride by Attack, Spirited Charge, Power Attack, Divine Might

Human Paladin 5 / Hospitaler
STR 18
CHA 16

Damage

3*[8 (Lance)+ 6 (STR) + 6 (Power Attack) + 3 (Divine Might)]
3*23 = 69 Normal (207 Critical)

With Smite: 72 Normal (216 Crit)

You haven't really missed anything--the fact that the odds against this combo actually happening are somewhere in the neighborhood of 1 in 288,000 sort of tends to balance things out.

You are assuming a little too much for this to be at all meangingful. Mostly, the Critical Hit.

But you assume maximum rolls for damage, a difference of 25 on the Bull Rush opposed rolls, and a Critical Hit. As Caelic pointed out, chances are that you aren't ever going to roll max damage, beat someone by 25 points on a Bull Rush, and roll a critical hit at the same time. At least not at 6th level.

What really makes this is the x4 from the Scythe. Nothing more.

I was an English major and failed pretty much every math class I ever took, so I decided instead of attempting to figure out the "average" damage, I would put the best possible situation out there with the max possible damage and let those of you with the math skills pick it apart.

I thought they changed Monkey Grip so you can't wield a larger than normal weapon in two hands?

Half-Orc Paragon 3/Fighter 2/Frenzied Berserker 1

22 strength
Greatsword
Power attack -6
Double Damage from Headlong Rush
(2d6+9+12)*2 = 56 damage on average without expending resources.

You may have failed every math class you took, but you should still know that critical hits with a scythe are very rare.

Monkey grip now just gives you the ability to wield a weapon of 1 size category larger than your size (Large weapon w/ medium character) without changing how you wield it (two-handed stays two-handed, one handed stays one handed, light stays light) ata -2 penalty.
