| ravenkith11-10-06, 11:14 AM | I am about to play in an upcoming campaign. The DM in question tends to run combat-heavy adventures, staying away from the roleplay. I am one of the more experienced players & optimizers in the group, and as a result, I've been asked to play the wizard type by my compatriots (it's important to have an experienced hand running your offensive spellcasters, especially when the cleric is going to be run by a relative noob). Usually I'm pretty good at coming up with ideas, but I'm drawing a blank on this one, primarily because my first idea was shot down. Books Allowed: PHB, PHB II, Complete Divine, Complete Adventurer, Complete Warrior, Complete Arcane No warlocks. No Psionics. Stats: 32 point buy Suggested classes for campaign: Cleric (a must) - Taken, Paladin - Taken, Fighter type, Wizard type (Requested I take this by other players). Starting Level: 6 Starting cash: As normal, but no magic items allowed Deadline: Thursday 16th November My orginal build supposed some leeway in the character creation process, and I spent some time working on it: PHB II Sorceror Variant 1-5/Mage of the Arcane Order 1/Incantantrix 1-10/MOTAO 2-4/Sorc 6 The idea here was to be a damage specialist via metamagic (elemental sub and admixture were probably going to be taken, necromancy was going to get dropped), but still be able to come up with those game-saving one-off spells that are useful, but not quite often enough to be added to the abbreviated sorc spell list permanantly. The character had full progression casting, and a nice set of additional metamagic feats and class abilities from Incantantrix. Of course, the problem here is Incantantrix: it was stepped on like a bug, and thus this build was crushed, as if it never were. I would very much appreciate suggestions, because my normally adequate creative juices seem to have run fairly dry at the moment. |

(Air/Earth) This does somewhat pidgeon hole your character, but is one of the better Sorc PrC. That is if you can get over the two caster levels. So Sorc4/MotAO2/ES10/MotaO2/Sorc2 (or Divine Oracle2) Another route would be to get your damage through summons. Sorcerer 5/Mage of the Arcane Order 4/Thaumaturgist 5/Sacred Exorcist 6 |

So you have the potential to quicken and cast 2summons/round. Not too shabby. Otherwise concentrate on getting your summons to stick around as long as possible (ex: Extend) and then buff them into oblivion, this makes for some great battlefield control. Sorcs can make great Summoners just due to their spells/day. |
| ravenkith11-13-06, 05:31 PM | :bump: Any other ideas??? Am currently considering either an abjurer or a conjurer front runner right now is: Abjurer 1-3/Master Specialist 1-7/Initiate of the Sevenfold Veil 1-7/Master Specialist 8-10, I plan on dropping enchantment and necromancy (going to be in a party with a paladin, so dropping these will help avoid conflicts about mind control and respect for the dead/evil spells)... |
