I was a bit bored today and thought I'd try my hand at "optimizing" an archivist build. Somehow I'm sure it's only a variation on something already on the boards, but it took me all evening to figure it all out so I'm posting it anyway.

Feel free to comment on possible improvement.

Race = Elf
Level Class Feats
1 Archivist 1 Toughness
2 Archivist 2
3 Archivist 3 Dragonfriend
4 Chu. Inq. 1
5 Chu. Inq. 2
6 Dracolyte 1 Skill Focus (knowledge [religion])
7 Div. Or. 1
8 Div. Or. 2
9 Div. Disc. 1 Extend Spell
10 Div. Disc. 2
11 Div. Disc. 3
12 Div. Disc. 4 Persistent Spell
13 Seeker 1
14 Sac. Ex. 1
15 Contemp. 1 Divine Metamagic (persistent spell)
16 Contemp. 2
17 Contemp. 3
18 Contemp. 4 Divine Spell Power
19 Contemp. 5
20 Contemp. 6

His BAB is about as low as you can get in 20 levels (+9), but this doesn't matter much with a persistent divine power.
Obivously, the idea is to aquire lots of spells that can be made persistent.. and then do so.
The domains you have are: Inquisition, Oracle, Travel, Glory and 3 choices based on your Diety/Alignment.

Is there anything I missed that should be altered? Obviously it's not a very playable build, bacause of lots of roleplaying restrictions on the prestige classes, but I thought 7 domains was quite a catch ;)

SoMI = follower of Seldarine
Dracolyte = disciple of a draconic deity

I don't see any dragons in elven pantheon.
Moreso, CI must belong to LG church (i.e. chuch of a LG deity). LG elven/draconic deity? Who is it?

why do we want a bunch of domains? I'm pretty sure the archivists can get the domain spells with out actually getting the domains. all you need is scribe scroll feat and hang around other religions churchs and pay them to cast the spell on the scroll for you. In fact I'd suggest that as it states in the class that it only gets cleric spells per level and not cleric + domain spells that even with the domains he wouldnt know the spells that are part of the domain. the only reasion I'd want to actually have a domain as an archivists is for the domain special ability and for PrC entrances. th spells just arent that hard to get otherwise.

for a fully optimized spell casting list I'd max out diplomacy and take scribe scroll as one of my early feats. *shrugs* I just walk up to say a cleric of a god that offers whatever domain I want access too and ask him nicely if hed cast a spell for me on this scroll collection I'm working on. there ya go.

You answered your own question. Some domains give you very nice special abilities, like the Inquisition Domain's +4 on Dispel Checks or the Travel Domain's free rounds of Freedom of Movement each day.

On the other hand, you're right: as an optimization exercise, 7 or 9 or whatever domains is nice, but unless you can figure out a way to cherry-pick the very best powers it's not worth devoting all your feats and taking frequent dips.

Personally, I might be willing to sacrifice 1 Archivist CL for 1 level of Cleric, if it meant getting two really powerful Domain abilities and Turn Undead.
