Me and my friend really love 8-bit theatre (http://www.nuklearpower.com/latest.php) so I present to you: Black Mage!

Black Mage
Medium Humanoid
Gender: Male
Class: Wizard/Tained Scholar/Wizard
Level: 5/2/13
Alignment:
Eyes: Lich Eyes(Taint)
Hair: Short Brown
Race: Human
Hit Die: 20d4
Initiative: +0
Speed: 30 feet
Armor Class: 12, touch 12, flat-footed 10
Base Attack/Grapple: +10
Attack:
Full Attack:
Space/Reach: 5 feet/5 feet
Special Attacks:
Special Qualities: Summon Familiar, Blood Component, Level Advancement, Tainted Spellcasting, Taint Suppression, Secret(Blooded Metamagic), Corruption(Odor of Decay, Lips Shrink, Lich Eyes), Depravity(Aggressive, Treacherous, Murderous)
Saves: Fort +6, Ref +6, Will +14
Feats: Sudden Widen, Sudden Empower, Scribe Scroll, Energy Substitution(Lightning), Sudden Maximize, Arcane Thesis(Lightning Bolt), Energy Admixture(Lightning), Eldritch Corruption, Twin Spell, Explosive Spell, Transdimensional Spell, Chain Spell

Spells/Day
4/4/4/4/4/4/4/4/4/4 (+Int Modifier)

I even got his Hadoken to work. All you do is use Energy Admixture and Twin spell on Lightning bolt, upping it to an 8th level spell to deal a whopping 40d6 points of damage, then use Sudden Maximize, Sudden Empower as well as Sudden Widen to make it be a 10ft blast with a huge distance. If you want to, up it to ninth level with Explosive Spell and let the enemies fly.

The stats are not there so that he can be easily adapted for playability.

Books used were PhB, PhB II, Heroes of Horror and CA

I'd have preferred his Hadoken to be force based but lightning bolt was the best I could come up with. If anyone has a way to make it force based let me know :D

And yes we are working on the other :D

I don't mean to dump on this, but I really think Black Mage fits a lot better into the Warmage base class (really, almost all he can do is blow stuff up). Possibly using the Eclectic Learning (PHB2) feature to add Animate Dead to his spell list, to get those zombies and such he mentions from time to time. And of course, Feather Fall.

But if he was a warmage that would imply that he has a high charisma score and I think it's safe to say that he does not have a high Cha in any way shape or form. Furthermore, although, yes, he pretty much only blows things up he has a LOT of high level spells and being a warmage would cause him to lose access to tons of doomsday spells.

Besides, in one of the comics we see him shopping for spells in town.

Well, depending on the amount of Constitution damage a person with around 52 HP wants to take, you could amp it up a level to using Orb of Force from Spell Compendium, page 151. However, using a spell that damages through Force damage is not viable for Energy Admixture.

However, forgetting that little tidbit, this combo would then deal 60d6 damage, or 360 because of Sudden Maximise.

True, but only to one target, when Hadoken is a beam of energy which blasts everything in it's path.

Thanks for the comment though :D

Black Mage needs to have Weapon Focus (Dagger) in there somewhere. Have we forgot BM's favorite means of disposing of a problem?

Also, since BM has recently been upgraded to Blue Mage, I wonder if Spellthief isn't a better way to express the right mix of stabbity and hadokens?

Just some thoughts. I'm nowhere good enough to make that all work. :/

The weapon focus would assume that he was actually good with the dagger. I think it's safe to say, from the number of times he's stabbed everyone, that he can't use that thing very effectively :P I DID think of it but just thought it'd be better to do it this way. (Besides the thought of BM chaining flesh to stone or having his Hadoken skipping dimensions was just too much to pass up on :D)

As for the whole Blue Mage upgrade, I don't really think spellthief would work because of the whole needing to hit someone to get a spell. If anything, I'd say that the blue mage class in the forums would be the best, for obvious reasons, but it'd mean less spells of doom for him. Maybe someone else can seamlessly blend the two classes but not me :D

Okay, I love acronyms and all but...we shouldn't call Black Mage "BM"...he's not what I just left floating in the porcelain poop-shoot.

With that said, I feel that Black Mage should be a hardcore specialist wizard with emphasis on Evocation. Afterall, with the feel of Final Fantasy, Black Mages specialize in damaging spells only with a few "buff" spells here and there.

Arcane Thesis: Hadoken is a must...hmm, we should make the Hadoken spell.

Hadoken
Evocation
Level: 7
Components: V, S (You have to yell...specifically, "HADOKEN", then ball your fists together)
Casting Time:[b] 1 Full Round Action
[b]Range: Long (400 ft + 100 ft/level)
Effect: Cone
Duration: Instantaneous
Saving Throw: Don't bother
Spell Resistance: is for sissies

You ball your fists together...yell "Hadoken"...and roll all the dice in your bag. If you don't think you have enough, borrow from the DM or other players.

True, although Black Mage does have a tendency of running out of his blasting spells pretty quickly which is one of the reasons I neglected the specialist wizard view.

I considered writing a Hadoken spell but I decided to go with the books.

Although Hadoken should REALLY be a ninth level spell, it just doesn't seem right as a 7th level heh. Also, shouldn't it be a line like Lightning Bolt and not a cone? lol

Heh... Hadoken has already been partly statted out (http://nuklearpower.com/daily.php?date=041127), and I think it's epic.

Wouldn't warlock fit better for his Hadoken ability, and the whole dark evil wizard thing?

But Warlock never runs out, while Black Mage very explicitly does.

I think one of the PrC's from BoVD would fit, since they all require some horrible sacrifice to achieve power, which we know Black Mage does in spades. He was also the part-time rule of hell at some point, until he was booted out.

we shouldn't call Black Mage "BM"...he's not what I just left floating in the porcelain poop-shoot.
:uh-huh:

edit: nevermind, urbandictionary solves all

Have you concidred going with Spellfire for Hadoken? blast of raw, all consuming magical fire, a high con (He suvives periodic beatings from whitemage after all) and he can unleash a truly awesome blast or two. And absorbing spells to power it is kina similar to Blue magic.

Sounds cool but what in the nine hells is spellfire? I've heard references to it but I have no clue what it is O.o

Spellfire is an ability posessed by a rate few individulas in the Forgotten realms, the moast notable one in recet times being Shandrel the protagonist of Greenwood's Spelfire novel. In game terms its a Feat that lets you absorb spells cast at you, converting the enery into a damaging blast, theres also the spellfire chaneler prestege class. I think both are in the forgotten relms campeghn setting. (oh and its always nice to meetanother Black mage fan  )

Well, I'm not necessarily a black mage fan, more like a 8-bit fan...

But I'm glad you started this thread.

I don't think he would have WF: dagger, but maybe Improved Crit. In one scene he massacres a bunch of people in a very bloody way w/ his dagger. They didn't stand much of a chance. Maybe a level in rogue and the craven feat? I don't know how he does it. I think he's failed to bring down Fighter in the past because of really good AC, or something. But didn't he nearly kill him at one point? I can't remember.

Anyway, I don't know about warlock or warmage, but evoker sounds right up his ally. I can't see him putting much thought into subtle magic like enchantment or illusion, or abjuration for that matter.

hadoken isnt raw spellpower though- its love and happiness twisted into utter destruction

We know Black Mage has made many pacts with demons- we need to find a class that fits this, and has a low number of very powerful evocation spells. Im thinking there must be something in the book of vile darkness, but i dont have one here (nor looked at one in ages).

There was a class rolling about around here where a lvl 5 (or something really low) could cast wish or another lvl 9 spell once a day. That would fit him nicely. you can cram him with bonus feats by giving him loads of flaws too.

Due to his non-eucledian geometry he has to have a feat that causes confusion when seen (no idea where to find this- closest i can find is 'dark speech'- change the fluff to make it a blessing from an obyrith?). A PrC for the far-realm would be nice (not the alienist though) as the insanity fits him well.

That's all i can think of for now
