| ck2001wendt01-08-05, 10:04 AM | Well, I like Wizards for Counterspelling personally, but I think most people would say a Strongheart Halfing Sorcerer 1 (Improved Initiative) (Improved Counterspelling) 2 3 (Cooperative Spell) 4 5 6 (Reactive Counterspell) 7 8 That gives you the basic counterspell chain right there and will be a very simple build to play. Work your way up to Archmage for Mastery of Counterspelling. |
| discipleofevil01-08-05, 10:25 AM | ok, this is what i have come up with so far. by 8th lvl (my chars starting lvl) i was thinking of a +1 la to be a tiefling (+2 dex +2 int -2 cha) 4 lvls wizard then 3 lvls mage of the arcane order. i did the stats too, with my amulet of health +2, a headband of int +2 and both stat increases to int i have these stats: str13 dex: 18 con:17 int:24 wis:14 cha:11 could also do the skills as 13,17,18,24,13,14 i think the first way is better though feats i thought:counter spell, reactive counterspell (dm is allowing it) coop spell, collegiant wizard and suden still any critisism? |
| ck2001wendt01-08-05, 12:56 PM | Level Adjustment is a very, very bad idea for spell-casters unless you can get the LA-buyoff (a la Unearthed Arcana). It cuts down no the number of spells you can cast each day and the power with which you cast them, while your enemies will likely be full CR creatures. This could easily mean the difference between them having 6th level spells (and Disintegrate) while you're stuck at lvl 5 spells. You also can't get Reactive Counterspell without Improved Initiative (unless it was changed in PGtF and I missed it). |
| LordArkan01-08-05, 06:14 PM | Initiate of the Sevenfold Veil is a natural lead-up to Archmage, since the prerequisites are very similar. Why don't you try: Wizard 5/Geometer 4/??? 1/Initiate of the Sevenfold Veil 7/Archmage 3 I'm liking mindbender 1 for the empty level, seeing how there's no reason to NOT take it if you're not good aligned. |
| discipleofevil01-09-05, 02:05 AM | thnx for the progression lordarkan. i will build it and see how it looks. does any one else have any ideas? and yes the reactive counterspell does require improved initiative, i forgot about that one |
| paradoxmage01-09-05, 02:38 AM | I like Initiate of Sevenfold also. I would go this way. Cleric 3rd/Wizard 3rd/Mystic Theurge 7th/Initiate of Sevenfold 7th |
| discipleofevil01-09-05, 02:41 AM | ok, if i go with the cleric/wiz/thierg way can i use my cleric spells to counterspell other divine spells? also can i use a divine to counter an arcane? i have considered that build too, was the first i though of. i just wasnt sure about the counterspell thing |
| ck2001wendt01-09-05, 08:56 AM | You can Counter Divine spells with Divine spells. You can also counter Divine spells with Arcane spells, albeit at a -2 penalty. I would NOT recommencd building an 8th level Theurge. You would start off being able to counter as a 4th level Clr/4th lvl Wizard...so you could only deal with 2nd level spells. Your opponents, however, will be slinging 4th level spells or higher. MT builds are really only for when you can start off with 9th level spells in one of the categories. |
| helicopter01-09-05, 10:01 AM | mystic theurge is a really really bad idea. CK2001 has good advice for you. be sure to load up on spells that you can cast that allow you to use your move action for offense. like flaming sphere. then you can keep your actions open for counterspelling. |
