I was reading thread about eldritch knight (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=378355&page=1&pp=30), and started to think: How high BaB can a character get while having acces to 9'th lvl spells.

Aslo, I need a personal advice... My DM will not allow second PrC while having one unfinished, and I want to play an elven warmage. How can I get max BaB with min loos of spells? He can get 6 levels of warmage, and go to Suel Arcanamach (all elves are profienced with all bows, and this is [long, short]X[normal, composite] = 4 martial weapons ;) ). Suel Arcanamach have a "unique' casting progression, so it is not what is needed, to be honest.
And to get to Eldritch Knight, I would need to get 1 level of warrior. XP penality would be paintful as it should be an Elf!
So is there any good way to get high BaB?

PS: It must be playable at 6'th and all higher levels. I hope to go epic some time.
PS2: Please specify the books you get PrC's from.

Well, a simple fighter1/wiz8/EldritchKnight10/Spellsword1 gets caster level 18 and BAB +16, and I'd say is very playable at all levels. You could finish EK before taking the Spellsword level, but you'd delay getting the reduced ASF till very late in the game (17th level at the earliest).

For divine casters, a ranger1/clr8/Windwalker10/Templar1 has BAB +18 and caster level 18.

You can get higher (at least with the arcane one) if you use more prestige classes, or things like the Militia feat from Forgotten Realms. The Prestige Palladin from UA can also be used to get a divine caster with high CL and BAB.

PhaedrusXY, You replied while I was correcting my post. I've made mistake in gequirements, but it's ok now.

Militia grants profiency in only 2 martial weapons (and if you are elf, one of them you have anyway), so it is not the way to get the Eldritch Knight.

I was thinking about Arcane, but Divine is interesting too.

And there is one thing in your builds: fighter1/wiz8 means that casting in armor is imopssible. Aslo, if you are not human nor elf, there will be XP penalities from non-symetrical multiclass. And if you change wizard to warmage, XP problems will be for all races.

Added:
Just found an (partial) advice. You can get "arcane schooling" at first level, so any base arcane class is now treated as favourite for multclass purposes, in addition to normal fav class. But it can be taken only at 1'st level, and is Faerun's regional...

The Militia feat has been updated to 3.5 in the Players Guide to Faerun. It now grants proficiency with all martial weapons. Neither elves, dwarves, humans, nor half-elves would get an XP penalty from the simple arcane build I posted. I don't really see what the problem with it is. If you don't want to play one of those races, then yeah it isn't for you. And a dwarf, human, or half-elf could substitute warmage for wizard just fine. Dwarf or human would be my first choice for the race of a gish, anyway.

Casting in armor isn't a big deal in my opinion, if you're mainly looking at being a caster more than a fighter. If your DM wasn't so restrictive, you could take the Spellsword level earlier and cast in a Mithril Chainshirt or Twilight Mithril Breastplate with that build, also.

Thanx, I didn't know that... Guess have to find some kind of "update's list".

And a dwarf, human, or half-elf could substitute warmage for wizard just fine. To be honest, here the problem is in me. I always play Elves, don't like to prepare spells... And think that sorcerer (wild elves' favourite) is not so good to play.

Casting in armor isn't a big deal in my opinion, if you're mainly looking at being a caster more than a fighter. There are situations when you can't avoid melee combat. And I hope to get good use for "arcane strike" feat.

If your DM wasn't so restrictive, you could take the Spellsword level earlier and cast in a Mithril Chainshirt or Twilight Mithril Breastplate with that build, also. But he is restrictive :(

Anyway, thanx for the build :) It's good way to get high-enought BaB to get 4 hits / round and to use "ranged touch".

And what could you do with Warmage6/EldritchKnight10? four levels of Spellsword? Is there any "full caster"/"partial caster" class with good or medium BaB? And aslo can I avoid more feat investment (all armor for spellsword is a big price, IMHO).

So, there is an answer for my personal question, but what about general how high can you get it? This was without any limits other than game rules ;) And it seems to be interesting optimisation quest :D

Well the obvious approach is something like fighter7, divine crusader 9
That gives you BAB of 13 and 9th level spells at only 16th level.

If you want to boost that BAB, you could go fighter7, divine crusader1, Sacred fist 8, netting you BAB +15 and 9th level spells, again at 16th level.

Obviously fighter 7 is just an abstraction. There are many full BAB builds you can put in here.

fighter 1/wizard 5/EK 10/spellsword 4. That will net you BAB 17 and CL 17. Oh and you get spell channel...eventually.

Any casting class will cost you at least +1 BAB. Because you can't enter prestige classes before level 5, I don't think it's possible to get it without losing at least +2 BAB, barring unusual classes that rebuild spellcasting like divine crusader. In practice, I don't see how to do it without losing +4 BAB.

Oh yeah umm arcane only or divine as well? With arcane BAB 17 is highest with CL 17...at least with the req you gave.

Err...isn't that CL 16? -1 CL from fighter, -1 CL from EK level 1, -2 CL from spellsword levels 2 and 4. You'd have to drop a spellsword level for a wizard level to get 17/17.

Anyway, supposedly with warmage, going level 8 is a good break point since you get casting in medium armor. So you could do Warm8/EK10/Ftr1/SS1 for 16 BAB and 18 CL. Of course, as an elf there's a multiclass exp penalty...you could do dragonslayer 2 at the end, from dragonomicon. Costs more feats though.

Oppsy..right so it should be...

fighter 1/ wizard 6/EK 10/spellsword 3...and no spell channel :( . But at least CL 17 and BAB 17.

For warmage, I think BAB 16 is higest you can get and still get 9th level spells.
