I'm a DM and I have a player who's Halfling Rogue just reached 9th level (Straight Rogue)

I'm trying to help him pick a good (optimal) feat that will help him in combat without deviating from his 'style'.

He has some nice stats:
Str 10
Dex 21
Con 14
Int 17
Wis 11
Cha 16

His current feats are:
Combat Expertise
Weapon Finesse
Improved Feint

I recommended taking Two-Weapon Style, but he wants to just use a single short sword in melee (does not like ranged attacks, either).
Any ideas without totally rebuilding (No Invis Blade/Assassin builds please)? He'd be up for any 'taunting' style feats that might be out there.

Thanks for the assistance!

Why no Invisible Blade? Is this a no-multiclassing game? That would be the best, and Whisperknife (Races of the Wild) would be a (very) close second.

Why no invisible blade? Because I've already seen the build and the player doesn't want a dual-dagger wielder. I'm curious if there is ANY other build worth mentioning besides Invisible Blade! I realize the build kicks alls ass 'n' stuff, but there has to be more options out there for a single shortsword wielding halfling!

Prestige classes are not banned, but Rogue has been fitting the bill for him. He's looking forward to the Opportunist ability at 10th level- just looking for some help with feats on a straight rogue build...

I feel that any other taunting feat, like Goad, is going to get him killed.

You might suggest Staggering Strike. One big problem with melee combat rogues is that they need to be up close to hit someone and they don't have the hit points to take more than one full round of attacks at higher levels (not always, but in general). With this feat, and all the damage frm a sneak attack can force a fort save that even a giant can have trouble with.

Although it would conlict with Improved Feint, he may like Improved Diversion as well.

If he's looking for a themed Pclass that would stack well with what he has, look at Streetfighter.
