Hi :)

I've been wracking my brain trying to come up with a creative yet useful bad guy to play in an ucoming campaign. We'll be 8th-9th level and we wont ever get beyond 10th so a 20th level build wont help me out much.

He's traveling with neutral / good characters so he'll need to be sneaky about his bad guy tricks (i.e he cant be too overt about having walking hordes of undead though I defintely can role-play and use them temporarily). At the end of the campaign around 10th level, my guy will betray my partymates and burn their precious forest to the ground :)

I'm looking for anti-paladin, mad-scientist, necro type of bad guy. I need to have access for curing (either class or UMD). I've got 36 point buy and access to most everything but no Vile or Exatled Deeds, Forgotten Relams, Ebberon, and no divine metamagic (otherwise I'd know what it do). Also, DM plays with 3.0 darkness. I never have, it's a perfect role-play niche, but I'm not sure what made it so appealing (i.e. how can I use it?).

The obvious is straight cleric. With no divine metamagic I'm not quite sure what to do with charisma and feats (go divine power or just dump it?).

One idea that's intriguing is to go warlock. They aren't that great but the level we playing they are at their peak and they've got free animate dead...the temporary kind I can use. I dont want to sit back and blast (boring), so I wouldn't do the eldrtich spear and archery feat routes. This is what I was thinking:

human

str 14 (I will have to melee at certain points because that's the way DM is)
dex 16
con 14
int 14
wis 10
cha 12 (I dont have any DC invocations)

Feats: corpsecrafter, destructive retribution, extra invocation, ????
invocations: darkness (3.0! - But i've never played with it...what were the 3.0 strategies),
devil's sight (is this necessary, it isn't that great...it didn't exist in 3.0 and darkness was still "good")
beguiling influence
Shatter
The dead walk
fell flight / flee the scene

A bit of thread necromancy here... but this guy didn't get any replies the first time through.

How about an Archivist? They are an Int based divine caster, and they don't get Turn Undead. So they might be good for what you're looking for. They can also cast spells from any divine spell list, as long as they can find a scroll of it. I posted links to a couple of Archivist builds in this thread: http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=8669524&postcount=2
