Hi, I'm starting a new 9th lvl starting Eberron campaign and I'm not too familiar with this setting so I wanted to know if there are any good melee builds (maybe using warforged or another Eberron book since I know the usual FR/GH builds).

We're playing 3.5, ECS, completes allowed and any other book has to pass DM approval (no psionics :().

I want a warrior that deals good damage but also want him having some skills/abilities to... do something more than kill :D

Thanks in advance (sorry for any misspelling)

Warforged can be very resilient fighters. They tend to be pretty strightforward.

Changelings and Shifters have the shapechanger type, and qualify for Warshaper (CW) faster than other races. I know that's a popular combo. Changelings are pretty versatile by nature, and you could take a Ranger lead-in with either race for more skills.

I'm currently playing such a character in an Eberron campaign. He is currently at level 7. He's a Longtooth Shifter Barbarian 6/Totemist 1. While 6 levels in Barbarian isn't very optimized, he could do way better with 1 level of barbarian and some fighter levels (with extra rage feat he can rage more then the pure barbarian), I didn't feel going from barbarian to fighter fitted my background.
The extra skills of the Barbarian over fighter have been great fun.

The totemist from Magic Incarnum has added great flavor and fits the barbarian perfectly. He now has some extra options thanks to his two soulmelds the blink shirt and wormtail belt, he can teleport himself up to 20ft which has been amazing from a roleplaying point of view and he has some extra natural armour.

As feats I focussed on pure shifter feats from the Eberron Campaing setting and the Races of Eberron. I took Healing factor (heal your level in HP when shifting ends), Shifter Defense (2 DR/silver while shifting) and Shifter Ferocity (fight to the death). The shifter ferocity was great at low levels, now it's pretty useless.
All in all this character wielding a great axe does some really bad ass damage when he both shifts and rages. He's a badass with a lot of roleplaying eberron flavor.
By the time he reaches lvl 9 he'll be Barbarian 6/Totemist 2/Totem Rager 1.

i suggest a changling rogue3/(fighter/ranger/barbarian or any mix there of)2/warshaper4

since the rogue levels give plenty of none combat options and evasion and the warrior class's give you enough staying power, combined with the permant warshaper bonus's to front line. Although your will save will suck but plenty options.

An Eberron barbarian without Raging Luck?

I'm a big fan of those action points, personally. My last Eberron character was an Extreme Explorer.

I suggest Ex-Paladin2/Hexblade3/Ur-priest2/KarrnathiBoneKnight10/Divine Oracle2/Anything 1. Feats are Divine Metamagic, Persistient spell, Extend Spell, Divine Spellpower, and Divine Might, Extra Rebuking(x2 if you like), and one combat feat of your choice .

You get Evasion, Mettle, 2x CHA to saves, 9th-level spells, and 15 BAB, plus all the KBK specials.

If looking for more persistent spells with none of the hassle of the divine, just try an artificer.

The combinations are endless, but suffice to say at lvl 9, you could have some craziness like 24 hour fly, haste, divine power/favor/righteous might, blindsight, etc via persistent spell + metamagic item infusion.

If you need more hp, at lvl 9 psionic (or regular) artificer with racial sub lvl 5 taken you could have something like...

dorje mastery + wand lvl 9 = 11 caster lvl of vigor. or +55 temp hp. Share pain with your weapon familiar, and you're looking an a virtual +110 hp. Not counting the fact your infusions shared for repair count double for healing now, as well as the item itself has half your hp +30 to 40 for being an item, and also +10 for every enhancer.

Similarily, the regular artificer always has that hp from the item as well as temp hp from reinforce construct.

If new to the setting though, the artificer is kind of daunting. A warforged monk is never a bad idea if you wanna settle for a happy go punchy character with less need to think on the items built or needed. Just use the battlefist.

Another fun eberron melee build is the dino-riding halfling. Pick up the various charge feats and you can dish out some insane damage. Plus you get to ride a dinosaur. I reccomend the fleshraker.

I've also had fun with this guy (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=7399360&postcount=1) (not that I've progressed all the way through or anything).

A Shifter can make for a powerful melee charecter that isn't very reliant on equipment and isn't a Monk. Try this one out if you want a Shifter instead:

Barbarian11/Weretouched Master (Tiger)5/Warshaper4

Longtooth Shifter- STR and CON focus.

Feats, In order-Longtooth Elite, Shifter Instincts, Shifter Savagery, Extra Trait (Razorclaw), Shifter Multiattack, Shifter Defense, Greater Shifter Defense, Improved Natural Attack (Claws), Improved Natural Attack (Bite), Shifter Rend

The idea is to jack up your Claw damage to as high as possible. The Shifter Braid from Races of Eberron grows you to Large size when you shift, but is consumed after you're done shifting, luckily they're relatively cheap. Also at high levels you can pick up Rend, which adds 2d4 (sucky) + 1.5 STR bonus (Awsome!) extra. Here's the breakdown:

d4 (Claw Base), d6 (Improved Natural Attack), d8-2d6 (Shifter Savagery), 3d6 (Warshaper), 4d6 (Weretouched Master), 6d6 (Large Size)

d6 (Bite Base), d8 (Improved Natural Attack), 2d6-3d6 (Shifter Savagery), 4d6 (Large Size)

Note that these figures are easily attainable before 20th level. You can expect these numbers around lvl13 or so, depending on if you buy (or have an Artificer make) a ton of Shifter Braids. You can also expect that with a starting 14 STR, you can easily reach mid 30's or possibly even 40's in STR towards the end. There are other ways (Psionic ways mostly) to do more claw damage, but this is simple and easy. During every battle simply rage+shift and go to town on whatever is unlucky enough to be in front of you.
