| EvilDuck01-17-05, 01:17 AM | So, who's got ideas for the CV ninja? I'm having trouble coming up with the feats for a simple Ninja-20 build, and I'd also like to see what builds other people have come up with. |
| Skyrocket01-17-05, 01:18 AM | Ninja 20 seems like a poor idea to me. Grab a level or two of rogue and you'll be doing yourself a favor. |
| LeePriest01-17-05, 01:41 AM | I am currently Using a 9th level Ninja. I came in at Level 9 so I had some cash and ability points to use. We also Used a 32 point buy for the stats. I dumped on Strength giving him only a 10 for strength everything else was a 14. 2 ability points went into Dex. Then Gloves of Dex and a Periapt of Wisdom. I decided to go with the higher dex rather than wisdom to get the extra plus to initiative as well as to hit. Both would have given the same AC. But back to your question for Feats I took Weapon Finess Blind Fight Improved inititive Combat Expertise Improved Bluff Thats everything up to level 9. After this other ones I think of takeing are Weapon Focus Quick Reconiter Point Blank Shot Quick Draw Flick of the wrist |
| Ramses III01-17-05, 02:26 AM | I liked my assassin build a lot better than CV's ninja. It's kind of cool, but OA's ninja spy was a better treatment IMO. |
| borg212-28-05, 01:11 PM | My take on the cv ninja is: Shadow (MOTP +1 LA) Human CV Ninja 2 1 Cosmopolitan (iaido focus) 1 quickdraw Shadow is a fairly broken template, gives you a move of 45', fast heal 2, 90% concealment if there's less than dayligh illusion, and as you gain HD you can pick more special abilities (one is evasion, which is good since the c ninja inexplicably dont get it till very late in their progression). EDIT - Shadow is errated to LA+2 in 3.5 (rightly), now give 100% concealment in less than daylight. Ghost step toward enemy, sudden strike + iaido + str + weapon for damage. Throw in "the stripper" (high sleight of hand) to have him nick a few loose items first (DC 20 SOH to make it a free action)... I'm actually going to add in some druid levels and go daggerspell shaper/MMF to finish this off... it fit's in with my concept of an infiltrator/spy/assasin who enters the castle as a rat/bird/horse etc, and then suddenly strikes from the shadows and disappears... |
| rilem12-28-05, 01:22 PM | Grab a level or two of rogue and you'll be doing yourself a favor. Generally this isn't a good idea. You can get evasion and sneak attack elsewhere, and if you want UMD you shouldn't be a ninja. Shadowdancer does mix well with ninja -- much better than with rogue, as you don't get redudant abilities. Here's a thread with a bunch of builds: Complete Ninja Guide (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=518732) |
| ninjarabbit12-28-05, 01:42 PM | I'll second the ninja/shadowdancer idea. Catfolk from Races of the Wild make great ninjas. For only LA +1 you get +4 dex, +2 cha, +1 natural armor, 40' base speed, and few nice skill bonuses, and you can do the catfolk POUUUUNCE! A decent catfolk build would be ranger2/ninja7/shadowdancer10 |
| aprilia4life12-28-05, 04:20 PM | Going from that Complete Ninja thread I have written up my character accordingly. He will be 100% ninja (no dips) and is CATFOLK! I think they would be fun to roleplay and the +4 to dex and +2 to cha is great (even though I end up having 10 cha) I am lucky enough to use a 40 point stat build, my stats are something like as follows (with mods), I dont know the correct numbers but what's important is a high dex and a decent wis (plus int for skill points) 10 21 +1 @ 4,8,12,16 to make 25 (for perfect TWF) 14 14 17 +1 @ 20 (maybe) 10 My feats will go as follows. I will primarily be using duel wielded short swords and duel wielded shuriken for max sudden strike damage! 1) Two weapon fighting 3) Weapon finesse (I can't hit anything in HTH with a 10 STR) 6) Improved initiative (with such a high dex I am not sure if I need to though) 9) Improved TWF 12) Deadly Precision (reroll 1's on sneak attack damage) 15) Greater TWF 18) Free Feat 21) Perfect TWF Someone else actually came up with this feat list, I think I changed it a little bit and added perfect TWF at the end. Very useful and heaps of damage! |
| AramilWindwalker12-28-05, 04:36 PM | I prefer my ninjas as throwers. I recently made a 12th level ninja3/rogue3/invisible blade3/master thrower3 who was a goblin, focussed on dex, then wis and int, then con and str, and cha was dumped hard. he did an average of 100 damage a round with his 4 +1 returning daggers, and decimated a giant, a troll, an ogre, an ettin, and a green dragon(don't know age, probably young adult or adult, maybe mature), with the help of a less optimal twf rogue and a warmage in 6 rounds. I should have fcocussed more on wis for more invis uses, but it worked fine good feats for throwers: pbs, precise shot, rapid shot, far shot, weapon focus, manyshot, improved rapidshot, improved precise shot, quick draw. I think it wouldn't be too broken to create a feat that grants +2 or three to a ninja's ki pool max, that would help, since the damage is really racked up when they cannot see you for a full attack. another choice would be to dump invisible blade for monk to get flurry with shurikens. |

Drop your wis down to 16 if you don't plan on bumping it with your level up bumps, there's no difference between a wis of 16 and 17 and you give yourself 3 more points for your character and I'd put those points into str so you do a bit more damage and can carry more stuff. |

Whoops, stupid me put +1 to CHA not +1 to WIS (it was a typo) I have changed it in my original post! So that takes WIS to 18.... although at level 20 I don't know if it will be that useful... ? |
| Tektonik12-29-05, 02:31 AM | I dont think it is that great of a class. The best use of it IMO is the wis to ac without the messy thing that is monk. That being said my favorite build right now is from the Cha Handbook. Chameleon Zen Archer Ninjas: Ranger 2/Ninja 2/Cleric 1/Chameleon 10/OotBI 2/Human Paragon 3 Freaky high wisdom scores in combo with Zen Archery and Ninja. Turns Swift Invisible 14-16 times per day, Divine Metamagic Of course being a ninja is how you play it not just your class but the flavor of Cha and the freaky being that can be persistant divine power on top of ~ 38 wis at 20 is crazy. You can always drop the Cleric if you or your dm doesn't like DM and pick up ninja3 for poisons. |

Getting through ANY door (unless it is magically BLOCKED, not locked) is useful, how the heck do you get such a high wis score??? |
| Tektonik12-29-05, 04:01 AM | 18 base +6 from periphat +6 from Chameleon +2 from Paragon +5 from tomes probably something else but it is early and that is 37. edit: Yeah well my character has knock.... so I can get through any door too. |
