| cog_and_taz10-30-06, 01:20 AM | Okay, my stuff may be and probably will be shaky as I don't even have the books, but here goes... First of all, take a level 3 awakened fly or level 1 awakened fly fighter(assuming fighter gives monkey grip). I chose flies as they are a representative of fine size. Now, for its 1st feat, give it the titan bloodline or something-or-the-other feat I keep hearing about, which allows a creature, regtardless of size, to use a titan hammer(gargantuan size). Now, monkey grip for a colossal hammer. Does anyone else find this amusing? |
| NoldorForce10-30-06, 01:36 AM | Wow, things are written THAT badly. To make this more clear, this seems to be the 12th-level ability in the major titan bloodline, Use oversized weapon (Ex). Included is a small note stating that it works "As the titan special ability."Oversized Weapon (Ex): A titan wields a great, two-handed warhammer (big enough for Gargantuan creatures) without penalty.Unfortunately, this doesn't work in conjunction with Monkey Grip, as Monkey Grip references your actual size. Similar reasoning is why Powerful Build doesn't stack with Monkey Grip. However...Giant Size can explicitly change your size to Colossal--that's eight size increases. There's also this line:All your equipment changes size with you allowing you to use weapons or magic items effectively in your giant form.Depending on how things are ruled...you just might be able to wield a weapon that deals 64d6 base damage. |
| cog_and_taz10-30-06, 01:39 AM | yay, so I did find something, at last! So, monkey grip is out, how bout a giant-soze/MG combo? Forget that, GS+enlarge+MG, colossal++ weapon, woot! |
| Tempest Stormwind10-30-06, 01:54 AM | Of course, if you're busting out the UA rules -- especially ones so uncommonly used as the bloodlines -- you have to consider DM use. And a fly descended from titans? That brings new meaning to the phrase "get your freak on". That said, Giant Size + Greater Mighty Wallop. I forget precisely how many size increases *that'd* be. (Give up on Monkey Grip. It, like the lottery, is a weapon aimed against those bad at math.) |
| cog_and_taz10-30-06, 05:05 AM | Okay, I'll give it up, but enlarge stays!(it does stack with giant size, right?). Yeah, UA has some odd stuff, but I really love that book, it's got some interesting stuff. As for the fly decended from titans stuff, well... I was just doing it for the sheer absurdity of it. Remember, these are the CharOps boards, common sense matters not. |
| cog_and_taz10-30-06, 09:16 AM | blump. |
| NoldorForce10-30-06, 11:48 AM | Greater Mighty Wallop only effectively gives you one size increase, as it only increases the size up to Colossal. Even so...Mighty Wallop on its own (one size increase, no limit) could still be used with a heavy weapon (gold or platinum, from Magic of Faerun). Enlarge doesn't stack; there's a specific clause that says something to the effect of "multiple effects that increase size don't stack".Of course, if you're busting out the UA rules -- especially ones so uncommonly used as the bloodlines -- you have to consider DM use. And a fly descended from titans? That brings new meaning to the phrase "get your freak on".First off, Pun-Pun. Second, the core rules have half-dragons. |
| jameswilliamogle10-30-06, 12:08 PM | Add Underfoot Combat, Confound the Big Folk, and give him Monk 6. Now you've got a super-tripping fly. Giantbane may be good. Rogue levels will let him overcome problems with puny damage (if you stay fine). |
| Bounces10-30-06, 12:40 PM | I have nothing to add in a CO sense...but since the topic is awakened flies I do have to add this one line... "Oh yeah, hey man...whose your daddy? I'm your daddy! You know why? Cause I did this to yo momma!!" -Suppa Fly! |
| PhaedrusXY10-30-06, 12:47 PM | Now you've got a super-tripping fly. http://www.joecartoon.com/pages/superfly |
| cog_and_taz10-30-06, 05:42 PM | Wheeeee! thanks for the ideas guys, keep it coming! I now have a mental image of some fly in a monk bandana tripping the tarrasque... |
| filwinn10-30-06, 06:28 PM | personally i was thinking that a sneak attacker build would be just ...mean on an awakened fly. that said, were does one find the actual stats for a fly ? |
| ksbsnowowl10-30-06, 06:35 PM | There are no actual stats for a fly. Sadly, a fly would be considered of the Vermin type, and thus cannot be a target of Awaken. |
| Tyco311010-30-06, 06:39 PM | well if they are considered vermin then the Swarm-Presitge Class from SS would do it, seeing it has awaken vermin class feature which does awakening for vermin |
| cog_and_taz10-31-06, 04:56 AM | you know... a fly was only an example of a fine sized creature, an ything would do fine. |
| Khan the Destroyer10-31-06, 05:46 AM | Like a grain of sand. A grain of sand is also an example of a fine-sized creature. |
| cog_and_taz10-31-06, 05:51 AM | wow, khan posted in one of my threads...   *starts the "we are not worthy"chant* How is a grain of sand a creature though? |
| filwinn10-31-06, 09:36 AM | nah, i really love this supah fly idea :D |
| PhaedrusXY10-31-06, 11:02 AM | wow, khan posted in one of my threads...   *starts the "we are not worthy"chant* How is a grain of sand a creature though? It's one of Pun Pun's clones. They all are. All grains of sand, random NPCs that never speak, and grains of dust, are secretly clones of Pun Pun. |
| Anauroch10-31-06, 11:46 AM | Oh wow... this was fun reading, guys... (that's the genderless form of guys mind you) How about a pychic warrior fly with the compression power? Augment it to reduce your size by two steps..... into 'nothingness'? ;) |
| jameswilliamogle10-31-06, 11:47 AM | animate object + permanancy + awaken construct + monk 11 + rogue 9 + confound the big folk + grain of sand = nastiest quicksand (mud pie, sand castle, etc) you ever encountered. Better to do it w/ a fine-sized adamantium object, though (watch out for dispel effects, lest you lose everything but your awakened-ness). Jorge the Dust Awakened Fine Animated Adamantium Object (call it LA +1 for adamantium) Monk 11 / Rogue (Normal) 8 (28 pb) Str 10 (-6 from size) Dex 20 (+6 from size) Con - Int 14 Wis 14 (+5 levels) Cha 8 Feats (in order): Improved Grapple, IUS, Stunning Fist, Combat Reflexes, Weapon Finnesse, Improved Trip, Acsetic Rogue, Underfoot Combat, Confound the Big Folk, Giantbane, Craven Thats 4d6 Sneak Attack, greater flurry, AC 37, DR 20 / Adamantium, up to 70' movement (if it has wheels). |
| cog_and_taz10-31-06, 05:12 PM | aweshome:) |

(Give up on Monkey Grip. It, like the lottery, is a weapon aimed against those bad at math.) One of these days I'm going to bust out a Moneky Grip build that will make everyone clammering to get monkey grip... one of these days... *shakes fist at screen* Actually, I can think of a moment right now... Say you're wielding a weapon with greater mighty wallop. Lets say it also has the sizing enhancement. First you apply GMW, then you increase the size to large. Now you hand it to thog who can wield it due to his monkey grip feat. The -2 penalty (or whatever it is) is now transformed into a single size increase... except with the proper sequencing (always end with sizing enhancement), it now offers a significant damage increase, possibly greater than any power attack ratio ever achieved. |
| feraltibbit10-31-06, 07:15 PM | Dude! That's crazy! First, your AC'll be +8 size + whatever your DEX mod is. Considering a fly is still classified as "vermin", though awakened, could it STILL be immune to mind-affecting effects? Hmmm...buzz-buzz-buzzz...or would he still give N 2 entering a bar with a sign that says: "Cafe Fe-Cal" in common and vermin? A crazy beginning-DM's mind wants 2 know... Also...how N the HELL would U B able 2 hide that big ol' hammer?! Orc 1: Is that what I think I see? Orc 2: Nah, can't be...or IS it a bee? Orc 1: What the...!? It's wielding a... "WHACK!" Orc 2 (Running): I'ma get Chief RAIDer for this thing! |
| cog_and_taz11-01-06, 05:25 AM | First, this is not a chat room, you have the time to spell in a way that people who haven't played WoW(unlike myself) can understand what you're saying, please do so:). Secondly, thanks for the support everyone, you made me happy, warm AND fuzzy at the thought that I actually brought a new idea to the CharOps boards. As for hiding the hammer, this is beyond common sense, don't try to apply it to things like this. However, an improved glove of storing would work. Basically, a shrunk glove on the fly's limb with a similarly shrunk bag of holding/portable hole(make sure it's the only thing in the container, you don't want to have to fiddle around to find it, and it won't fit in a handy haversack.). I don't have the awaken vermin version, but based on what it does to plants, I'd say it's still immune. Yes, AC would be insane, although str and con would still be insanely low(despite being able to hold a hammer the size of a house). Similarly, based on the animal version of awaken, I'd say that it would learn common, though as I said, I don't have the spell with me. As for the orcs...poor things:P . Oh, and nothing would attack or suspect the fly if the hammer is stored until it's far FAR too late...... |
| Aufenshauft11-01-06, 09:05 AM | Oh, the storing of the weapon shouldn't be a problem. Just get a haversack and you never will have to worry. Adds to the cartoonishness with the 5' weapon coming out of a sub-fine pocket on the fly. Sorry to say, awakened creatures can only be made out of animals and trees, not Vermin (if I remember right), and become magical beasts. So no Vermin abilities. Therefore, I would suggest a mouse, or, if you want to fly try a bat. You keep the really sqeaky voice but you also gain RADAR then.:thinks: Okay, so I suggest a modification to this of an awakened bat using a haversack, big spear (bigger damage, less weight so you can haversack it) Rogue X/Caster 1 to get Ex Retreat, then look at the sneak attack threads to get as many d6 damage as possible. Get Flyby attack and Quickdraw too. Common strategy would be to move outside of most everyone's darkvision (remember, most darkvision goes to 60', with only shadows to 120'), then speed in and do a massive wallop sniping attack and fly off. I will let someone else do the math. Call yourself something equally cheezy like 'Darkwing Mouse: The darkness that flaps in the night'. |
| cog_and_taz11-01-06, 09:56 AM | it will not fit in a handy haversack, I think. There has already been an awaken vermin listed further up. The bloodline is specifically for warhammers. Also, no one suspects or even notices a fly anyway. |
| Tweedledope11-01-06, 10:03 AM | well if they are considered vermin then the Swarm-Presitge Class from SS would do it, seeing it has awaken vermin class feature which does awakening for vermin Oh Jesus Christ...Savage Species + Unearthed Arcana...what next? Book of Vile Darkness?! You people are MAD! |
| cog_and_taz11-02-06, 03:07 AM | Oh Jesus Christ...Savage Species + Unearthed Arcana...what next? Book of Vile Darkness?! You people are MAD! Your point being? |
| filwinn11-02-06, 04:50 AM | otoh, we have stats for bats :p (bring on the exalted feats !) |
| cog_and_taz11-02-06, 05:52 AM | bats are diminutive, not fine...... Just give it high dex and a 1 in str/con. |
| kyeudo11-02-06, 01:15 PM | And I thought the pixie binder who binds Euynome idea i had was bad. Now we have fine sized creatures bashing away with colossal sized warhammers. I just want to know, since Collosal Warhammers are guargantuan objects, how do you fit it in the dungeon? It won't go through the standard sized door. |
| jameswilliamogle11-02-06, 03:10 PM | And I thought the pixie binder who binds Euynome idea i had was bad. Now we have fine sized creatures bashing away with colossal sized warhammers. It won't go through the standard sized door.We got that figured out: handy haversack or bag of holding. |
| jameswilliamogle11-02-06, 03:11 PM | Hey, would the warhammer give cover to the fly, since its so big and the fly so little? Also, how do you get past the max load restriction of the fly? |
| Nanshork11-02-06, 03:29 PM | otoh, we have stats for bats :p (bring on the exalted feats !) But why be a bat when you could be a penguin? Then not only would you kick ass, but all the girls would hug you to their bosoms. :P |
| cog_and_taz11-02-06, 06:12 PM | Because penguins are not fine size...... Also, go ahead with cover, why not? Try to keep in mind that this is no more than a mental exercise and a joke, mmkay? |
| Nanshork11-02-06, 06:41 PM | Because penguins are not fine size...... Also, go ahead with cover, why not? Try to keep in mind that this is no more than a mental exercise and a joke, mmkay? Bats aren't fine size either, and good luck with finding stats for a fly. |
| cog_and_taz11-02-06, 06:49 PM | As I said, high dex and -9 racial penalties on str and con, give it flight and possibly disease/poison resistance, problem solved. |
| Nanshork11-02-06, 06:52 PM | As I said, high dex and -9 racial penalties on str and con, give it flight and possibly disease/poison resistance, problem solved. MM p. 296; he'd have a strength of one, a big minus to con, but a huge boots to dex. |
| cog_and_taz11-02-06, 07:30 PM | *nod* |
| Nanshork11-02-06, 07:38 PM | He needs weapon finesse, and is there any way to add dex to dmg? |
| cog_and_taz11-02-06, 07:39 PM | I think I heard of a class that does somewhere, but I don't know. |
| Nanshork11-02-06, 07:43 PM | I think I heard of a class that does somewhere, but I don't know. Then he's almost perfect. Ahh, the joys I could have with supa-fly. |
| cog_and_taz11-02-06, 07:45 PM | Thanks, but don't, it makes no sense and was nothing beyond a joke... |
| Nanshork11-02-06, 07:46 PM | Thanks, but don't, it makes no sense and was nothing beyond a joke... I was kidding, for the record. |
| cog_and_taz11-02-06, 08:05 PM | whew, good to know... sorry, I know far too many people who would go "wow, uber build! I'm so gonna take this guy and slaughter my DM with him! Pwn! Super fly for the win!" etc etc.... |
| Nanshork11-02-06, 09:13 PM | whew, good to know... sorry, I know far too many people who would go "wow, uber build! I'm so gonna take this guy and slaughter my DM with him! Pwn! Super fly for the win!" etc etc.... I'm not like that. I prefer to play non-broken uber builds, haha. |
| cog_and_taz11-02-06, 11:01 PM | Thank goodness... |
| JosephKell11-03-06, 01:00 AM | But most fly species live up to about 30 days (mayflies are the ones that live 24 hours). Wouldn't a cockroach be better? Radiation Resistance (Fire and Eletricity?) able to survive nuclear winter (cost resistance?), Damage Reduction (it takes a lot to crush a roach). Darkvision. The only draw back is Light Sensitivity. But there is a feat for that. |
| filwinn11-03-06, 02:58 AM | you'd need leadership with a cockroach for your millions of siblings (maybe think about thrallherd :p), the bad news is that the buggers don't fly |
| Darhelion11-03-06, 08:39 AM | Just need to find the right kind of beetle, then. Beetles are related to cockroaches... Maybe your thrallherd beetle has convinced his cockroach siblings that his shinier carapace and winged glory make him their long-promissed god-king! |

| cog_and_taz11-07-06, 01:27 AM | guys, I have good news and bad news. Good news: champion of corellon larethian gives dex to damage. bad news: first, you have to be an elf, plastic ears are not an accepted substitute. second, it only applies to certain weapons, the warhammer is not one of em. The ray of hope: we could use some kinda polymorph spell (not familiar with 3.5 polymorph wonkiness) to A: change the fly into an elf, permanently. B: polymorph the hammer into an elven courtblade or some such, whether it would still be usable with oversized weapon is questionable. |
| Griff11-07-06, 11:24 AM | Use a dancing weapon, then weild another while it does its stuff... twice the hammery awesomeness. |
