| Nicholas the Paladin12-18-06, 05:51 AM | Hello posters, I probably will take a Warlock as my next character in a one-shot adventure of 3rd level. From what I understand from the Complete Arcana my Blast can be quite effective at third level and I have a few invocations: I reason that a 3rd level warlock can ben fun. I think I want to be non-melee warlock, that blasts from a reasonable (safe) distance. What should I pick? I'm thinking about being Human, because what from what i've heard feats are important to Warlocks. Feats: so that leaves me with 3 feats. - Are "Point Blank Shot" and "Preciese shot" good ones? - what else? Items: By the rules I have 2700 GP - what to buy? I have 2 invocations: - what do you recommend Thanks for your time ! |

Generally, Warlock really shines at the lower levels before classes such as Wizards start getting access to their more powerful spells and greater number of spell slots. Well, if you want to be reeeeeally far away, then Eldritch Spear seems like a good choice. Generally it's suboptimal as you progess in levels, but as this is one shot, who cares. Baleful Utterance is going to be really potent, especially at low levels when most baddies don't have access to magic weapons yet. Entropic Shielding is another great invocation, and one ideally suited for a Warlock who wants to stay out of reach. See the Unseen is very nice, but at such a low level, I'm not sure how useful being able to see invisible creatures is going to be. Feat-wise, definitely pick up Precise Shot, especially as a ranged Warlock. Mortalbane from BoVD is very good. That extra +2d6 is going to really be potent at 3rd. Take at look at the Bargain Basement thread for good advice on items at a steal: http:///boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=657626 Hope that helps. -Grave & Co. |

OKay, what I understand is that the "blast shape- evocations" like Eldrith Spear also count as being a evocation 'you know' as a Warlock...I didn't realise that. (doh) I understand that 'balefull utterance' is good for blowing up other peoples weapons... right? I've seen some posts about how great this "Entropic Shielding" is. But I'm not that impressed. Also because we don't come across bowmen all that much. 'See the unseen' is indeed less usefull af lower levels. Thanks for the input. Let's say i want to a 'sniper' kind of warlock, then i guess 'spiderclimb' combined with 'eldrith spear' is really effective....but on the other hand; this gets lame pretty quickly. I just have 2 of those evocations, after all. Hmmm, diversity with just 2 evocations...that'll be hard ;) |
