Hey folks,

Putting together a 5th level tank for the new Red Hand of Doom adventure. Here's what I have so far...

Concept I'm shooting for: iconic barbarian-flavored melee machine optimized for max damage (but, really, I see the barbarian aspect almost totally as flavor for role-playing). I want to eventually take advantage of the shocktrooper/combat brute/leap attack feats.

Quirks:
-I'm trying to keep my will save maxed; i always fall victim to charm or something stupid and i'm determined to overcome this.
-we're required to take 2 flaws (so 2 extra feats) and 2 traits

Stats:
Str 18
Dex 16
Con 18
Int 10
Wis 8
Cha 16
(yeah, good rolls)

Progression:
1 Barb 1 (P.Attack, Cleave, Force of Personality, Imp Bull Rush)
2 Barb 2
3 Fighter 1 (Dodge, Mobility)
4 Hexblade 1
5 Hexblade 2

My choice of Force of Personality may seem weird, but like I said above, I wanna max my will save. So, between that (which makes your will save based on your CHA) and the arcane resistance from hexblade2, that's double my CHA bonus to my will save (at least for some things). And, my decent CHA synergized with the Hexblade curse. From here, I see taking Fighter then Hexblade.

My other thought was to drop the 2nd level of Barbarian and substitute the Mineral Warrior template instead.

Anyway, please let me know what I can do to improve this (remembering my twin goals: max melee damage and max will save).

thanks!

i play in living greyhawk so i dont have all the feats you do but a occult slayer is good for a fighter/tank with will save concerns extra saving against plus the ability to turn spells and eventually ignore mind effecting spells prestige class in the complete warrior check it out

If I were you I would take some tough race, like:
-Orc (+4Str is always good!)
-Feral (see above! LA +1)
-Proto (see above! LA +0) [Dragonlance Bestiary of Krynn]
-Mineral Warrior (good DR = your rage will last longer, because you won't die fast)
-Anthropomorphic Baleen Whale [SavSpec] (+8Str and no LA!)

But Imho the best would be:
Feral Proto Anthropomorphic Baleen Whale Mineral Warrior (ECL 5)
Proto+ racial HD = rage for free

result Str: 18base+4feral+4proto+8whale+2mineral+4ra ge = 40 [+15]

I thought I'd offer an answer that doesn't rely on Pun-pun or Anthropomorphic Baleen Whales.

You might want to consider a straight Hexblade, going into Dragon Disciple at 5th level. I know Dragon Disciple isn't popular, but it gives you a +8 Str and a bunch of other stat bonuses over 10 levels, and good Will and Fort saves. Specialize in Power Attack & 2H weapons, and you'll do decent damage right from the start.

You can also take 4 levels in Hexblade and 1 in Barbarian, and pick up Battle Caster - this will let you wear Medium armor without penalties.

I'm sorry, but who the F^*@ are you to give that kind of answer to a poster who did his work?

Build looks OK, though I'd go Fighter 2/Hexblade 3 instead of dipping into Barbarian levels. Hexblade 3 gets you Mettle so your saves get even better.

You're right Anthropomorphic Squids that hold a weapon in all 6 arms to get 3,5x STR modifier to damage are much better.

Id take a Paladin variant over Hexblade. This opens up flavor wise for Pious Templar at later levels aswell, and if you take a good pick you get Slippery Mind aswell.

Fighter 2/ Anarch (http://www.crystalkeep.com/d20/rules/DnD3.5Index-Classes-Base.pdf) 3

Or better yet, both Hexblade and Anarch:

Fighter 2/ Anarch 3/ Hexblade 3/ Wilder (http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/35/sovelior_sage/psionicWilder.html) 2/ Slayer (http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/35/sovelior_sage/psionicSlayer.html) 10
1 Fighter 1 Power Attack, Cleave, Improved Bullrush, Dodge
2 Fighter 2 Mobilty
3 Anarch 1 Improved Sunder
4 Anarch 2
5 Anarch 3
6 Hexblade 1 Track
7 Hexblade 2
8 Hexblade 3
9 Wilder 1 Shocktrooper
10 Wilder 2
11 Slayer 1
12 Slayer 2 Elusive Target
13 Slayer 3
14 Slayer 4
15 Slayer 5 Leap Attack
16 Slayer 6
17 Slayer 7
18 Slayer 8 Combat Brute
19 Slayer 9
20 Slayer 10

Cha to saves, double Cha to saves vs spells, mettle, slippery mind, destructive strike, elude touch and later on immunity to all mindeffecting thingies... and 11 level Wilder manifesting, thats 5th level powers.

Well just a thought. If this doesnt float your boat, you might wanna consider the awsome Champion of Gwyharwyf (or whatever) from Book of Exalted Deeds.

Cheers. :D
