Ok cheesy as it may sound I like Beastboy and his abilities (Comics, Teen Titans). For anyone that does not know he is a comic book/cartoon superhero that can change into any animal/animal type at will (once turned into an amoeba too).

I'm looking for the closest build to be somewhere along the lines of Beast Boy, as im not familiar with EVERY book, race or class im begging for help. I understand most likely he will start druid but where to after that and also what feats would help me? Where should i put my stats? what type of gear should i run with etc.....Im basically looking for a total build, ground up.

The rolls I have are 18,16,14,14,13,12 do with em as you wish.

Thanks for any help.

If it's just animals than druid 20 should be fine, along with combat feats because he is always charging in as a bear or lion or something. But then you cast spells... very un-BB-like. I you want more shapes(like eventually dragon), go Master of Many forms (10 level PrC enterable at level 6 with relatively easy requirements) in Cadv, so less casting, but more shapeshifting.

Hope it helps

Now with this how many times a day could i shapeshift and for how long? What benefits do these classes get me?

At 15th, 11 times per day into any living creature (no construct or undead) of 15 HD or less between diminutive and gargantuan in size. Duration on each change is 11 hours. Ranger 10/MoMF 10 would give you 20 HD.

You get the benefits of a ranger of the appropriate level.

You can use the extraordinary powers of your form, but not supernatural or spell-like. You cahnge form as a move equivalent action.

By 20th you can change into any of these sapes an unlimited amount of times but can only return to your natural form 11 times. You are immune to criticals/stuns, have a new or better natural attack, gain reach, and fast healing.

In short Master of many forms allow more wild shaping into more types of forms and gives you the forms extraordinary abilities.

Warshaper makes your wild shapes more flexible enabling you to partially morph to avoid damage, heal, or transform.

Yes, all true. If all you had was the Template that would be the end of it. But if you slap Master of Many Forms on top of that you can use that Fast Wild Shape (Su) to fuel you MofMF's shapity-goodness.

It's Divine Minion + MofMF = Wildshape bonanza, not just one or the other ;)

You can easily duplicate the Divine minion's abilities with a feat from Savage Species that does the same thing. Taking it twice will let you wildshape as a free action. I'm sorry but i forgot the name of the feat. The name fast wild shape is stuck in my head, though i know it wasn;t specifically for wildshape.

06-25-05, 09:32 AM
If you do the Divine Minion trick with MoMF you probably still want to get Ranger 5... MoMF doesn't add animal type to what you turn into. And Divine Minion just lets you change into one(or a few) specific animal(s). Although thats a nice trick if you mostly want to use the other types it gives you an unlimited number of times, at low level.

I'd avoid the Divine Minion, for several reasons:

1. It's not really in keeping with the character concept aesthetically.
2. It's from a web enhancement, and therefore likely to be looked at askance in many campaigns.
3. It's fairly overpowered, and has high "Irritate the DM" potential.

The MoMF is plenty powerful without Divine Minion.

What level are you starting at? If you arn't starting as at least a 2nd level character, you can not be a Divine Minion due to the LA. Also, without Divine Minion, you won't get any shapechanging fun until 5 level.
One piece of advise, do a search on these boards here for the thread about the best forms to take based on HD. Very useful.

Correct; you'll be limited to about a dozen times a day, assuming you don't take Extra Wild Shape. You also won't be an Egyptian god's minion on earth, which I still don't think really fits with your concept.

If you want unlimited wild shape without relying on semi-official web material, you could always use the Animal Lord from MotW. It's 3.0, but if your DM's willing to allow web enhancements, I suspect you could get him to allow a 3.0 class.

Ultimately, of course, it's your character and your choice; as a MoMF fan, I personally wouldn't touch something as cheesy as the Divine Minion with a shapeshifted ten-foot claw. :)

Once you have myltimorph you might as well have infinite changes. Multimorph will allow you to change shape between alternate shapes for the duration of the wild shape. Thus you could go beast boy-orc-hippo-dog-rat-tyrannasauras rex-dragon-skunk-beast boy all on 1 wild shape. The effect is that you can only return to your beast boy shape 15 times per day. Unfortunately, you do not gain this till 20th.

This is his Dm talking. I am a very easy going dm and as long as everone has fun I do not care. The only thing is I have to read each thing my self. I read the templte and I will alowe it. I still have to read the Master of forms (I do not have the book). So far it does not look like the templte would give him unlimited of everything just that form. Even that way though from what you all say he would get unlimited 1 form pluse limited of anything else. This still fits with beastboy as he normaly changes into the same things alot on the tv show.

'Fraid not, Valoy--at least, not as written. Master of Many Forms adds new forms to your existing Wildshape ability.

Now, pretty obviously, it wasn't written with such limited wildshaping in mind, but by the letter of the rules (if you accept web material as "rules,") it works.

Of course, as DM, you're totally within your rights to rule otherwise--and I'd give serious thought to the class prior to making it more powerful by stacking it with Divine Minion. At present, I'm playing a no-frills Druid5/Master of Many Forms 7. In War Troll form, I regularly defeat creatures of CR 14, 15, and 16.

[Edit] Err, on second thought, nevermind. In a campaign where a +23 to Strength, +10 to Con, and +10 to natural armor is a +2 LA, I somehow don't think a Master of Many Forms is going to dominate.

Well, just putting things into perspective, here's what you can expect:

By level 12, the character will have access to War Troll, giving him Regeneration 9, damage resistance, spell resistance, and the oh-so-nasty Dazing Blow ability. With a level of Warshaper in the mix, he'll be able to sprout (by the rules) pretty much as many natural attacks as his devious mind can come up with, making his damage potential truly monstrous, as well as making him immune to critical hits and a variety of other special effects.

bump for anyone interested! could use feat choices also!

Some people will recommend some useful attack feats, possibly from savage species. With this build, I would look into another direction and take the mage slayer feats from CA. Your alternate forms will allow you the stealth/speed to get in close enough to make these feats work, give you the reach to keep them working, and you have no spell levels that will be negatively impacted. See the unseen (CV) is good in conjunction with pierce magical concealment and a good listen check. I would probably go human to take the able learner feat just to keep the entire Ranger skill list available at all times. See if your DM will allow you to take flaws (UA) and allow you to create a flaw (marked, green skin) to keep the beast boy flavor. Also take at least one wild feat, I like oaken resilience and lions pounce but any will do. You will probably have more wild shapes than you will need (especially once you get warshaper 5) and can make good use of them. Avoid feats that you can easily duplicate with a wild shape's extraordinary qualities (flight, scent, claws, etc). Power Attack, Improved Trip, Improved Bull Rush, and Improved Sunder are also very appropriate and work well with forms that have high strength. Improved flight and similar monster feats could be useful too.

Although it is not appropriate for the beast boy mentality as popularly depicted, vow of poverty is very appropriate for your build. Otherwise make heavy use of wild clasps (S&F) to enable you to continue using magical items even in wild shape. If you do take VoP, ask your storyteller how lenient he will be with regards to posessions. Cna you use your companions manual of bodily health +5, for example (or the one provided to you by the dying monk from the temple you have been donating to since level 1).

Just as a fyi to my players dismay I have ruled that the templates Fast Wild shape ability is not the same as the Wild shape class Feature ability that the Master of many forms gets to modifie. He can still take the templete but the template only lets him change into the spicific things.

To me the way they say it as a requirement the tmeplete can not help you get the master of many forms form the complete adventure. I do think he is hoping for you to argue it with me though.

Actually, Valoy, by the letter of the rules, I think you're entirely correct. The fact that it specifies the Wildshape class feature as a requirement means that Wildshape of any kind gained from a source other than a class technically won't work.

Ranger (Wildshape variant) 5

That is up to you. I would take at least 3 levels of MoMF, that will give you 4 shapechanges a day for 8 hours each (more than 24hours). After that you have 3 choices.

First is try for warshape 5. This will net 4 shapechange of weaker forms but you can switch between forms at will as long as you do not return to your own form more than 3 times per day. Between 1st and 13th the character runs as a 1-2 form tank with little wild shape goodness.

Second, you can try for the 7th level MoMF ability that allows you to gain the extraordinary abilities of the creature you transform into. This is more flexible than the 1st option, but weakens your tanking prowess a bit. Under this option your fighting capability is fundamentally a function of the HD and size of the creature you can transform into making you more offensive and less defensive.

Finally, you can choose to go straight MoMF for the Ooze, Elemental, and Dragon forms. This gives you more flexible form alternatives but slows down the speed at which you can gain multimorph even further. Honestly, I do not consider dragon or ooze form that good, but elemental form grants you the movement forms of the elemental(earth glide or 100' perfect flight). For the Beast Boy concept, however, this does not match very well.

Oh, there is an amulet (I think) in MoF that allows you to treat your wild shaping ability as if you were +4 levels in druid. This is a 3rd ed item, but if the DM will allow it, you make up for the worse problem with the warshape prestige class; that it does not progress your wild shape maximum HD.

06-30-05, 03:22 PM
A few questions:

1. Why the ranger variant? Are two extra points of BAB worth losing the third-level spells you'd gain as a druid?

2. Why five levels of Warshaper? Just for Multimorph? It's going to cost you as far as your maximum wildshape HD go...

Well obviously you'll need the ranger or druid levels first before anything else. As for what comes next, it depends on what forms you want to take. You'll probably want to start off with at least a couple MoMF levels so you have more wildshapes per day. Reaching MoMF 7 is an optimal cut off point for the ex abilities. Check out this thread: http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=363632 for good forms to take. But really, just getting up to MoMF 7 for the War Troll is kind of the pinnacle of your fighting career.

Somewhere in the middle, grab at least the first level of Warshaper for immunity to crits and improved natural attack. Otherwise, mix and match the levels depending on whether you want to advance your wildshape HD or get the goodies from Warshaper.

If you DM happens to let you stack Warshaper for wildshape HD, then you're golden.

Well, personally, I'd go with Druid--the BAB just doesn't matter as much to a shapeshifter. I'd only go with five levels of Warshaper if you can convince your DM that the class is supposed to stack for purposes of Wild Shape. It's been mentioned by a number of sources, but I don't think there's ever been any official errata on it.

Nature's Warrior is another good choice for this build--particularly if your DM agrees that you can take the same Nature's Weaponry ability more than once.

If you decided on Druid then put your highest stat in WIS (for DCs). Also there is little point to putting high scores in Physical stats. Personally from highest to lowest I would assign WIS, INT, CHA, CON, DEX, STR... there is an exception. If you want certain feats with stat minimums then make sure you still have the minimums when assigning stats.

IMHO
Highest stat Intelligence, for skill points
2nd highest Charisma, for disguise and diplomacy in unusual forms primarily.
This also makes innuendo-transmition easier.
3rd highest Tie between Con and Wis. Con will give you more hp in an anti-magic zone, in case you fall unconscious or are forced into your natural form, and for the pre-24/7 wild shape zone. Wis increases spot, listen, survival checks and your wis save.
Dump Stats-Str and Dex

Since you gave up beast boy, you might want to think about taking Vow of Poverty. Magical items are problematic for shapeshifters, at best requiring interpretations be given by the storyteller. VoP eliminates this problem and can be more fun to play that trying to get wild clasps for every item you own.

Lowest rolls to physical stats, most definitely. Of the three, Con should be highest, since you want a decent number of hit points even in your default form.

Of the three mental stats, I would personally prioritize Int, Wis, Cha. Wis isn't as important as it is to a normal Druid, since you'll only be getting third level spells with your build. Skill points are always welcome, and both the Druid and the MoMF have decent skill lists.

Cyborg is a warlock/barbarian with a battlefist of throwing/returning and an arm replaced by that eldritch blast improving item. Or a half-golem.

Robin is a human monk.

for beast boy I'd go with Goblin as your race.

I think Starfire would be a fighter. Treat her starbolts as a spell-like ability that functions the same as an eldrich blast. She's alien so call it a racial feature. (Even though that's not how it works in the comics) Starfire seems LG to me, which makes warlock a hard fit for her.

Raven: She's a half-fiend since her dad is pretty much an arch fiend. Warlock isn't a bad fit for her, but I think sorcereress works better.

Cyborg is a human fighter with the half-golum template. His white sound cannon is just a spiffy magical item.

Beast Boy (in the comics) is a normally human who got infected with a weird sickness as a kid. The cure turned him green and gave him his powers.

Robin would be a urban ranger, monk, ninja, rogue combo.

Slade would be fighter, monk, rogue, assassin.

Terra I could see being a sorceress/elemental savant.

cybore I think would be a Warforge with a new arm atachment that does a lighting bolt that does sonic damage.

To be accurate:
Starfire is a new race (apply LA as you see fit) that has a massive Str bonus, Starbolts (supernatural ability), and flight (supernatural ability).

Beastboy is a human with a new Template that allows unlimited wildshapes.

Cyborg is a Half-Golem(human)

Robin is human

Raven is half-fiend

As for classes...

Robin seems to be a monk varient

Raven is a theme wizard or varient wizard (she can study new spells, she just prefers her shadow/telekinesis spell)

Cyborg is a fighter/artifacer

Beastboy is a barbarian

Starfire is a fighter of some sort specializing more in ranged attacks like an Archer.

Ok well here is how the first session went.

I am Druid 5/MoMF 1, now it went pretty well I stayed in a raptor for (forget the name). We fought an invisible something constantly summoning creatures, Then we tried to take on 2 willowisp's and found out we couldnt yet (29 AC ugh!) I found myself asking more and more questions as I played the Class and i thought maybe some of you could help me with.

1.) At the current level I am at when i shift the ONLY abilities I get are +STR +DEX & +CON?

2.) I understand I do not get whatever it is i shift into's ex. abilities (for now) but do i get their skills (+24 jump +10 spot etc....)?

3.) When an animal i shift into has the attacks of, 2 +10 claws, +5 bite and +1 tail, do i get all those attacks at the bonuses that the MM states or is is different for me?

4.) I have about 27k gold and the DM want me to buy magic items and I was just not sure what to buy, any recommendation? I have the basic gear no magic armor or weapons yet.

No. You get the physical stats of the form, the natural armor of the form, the non-magical movement abilities of the form, the natural attacks of the form, and the extraordinary special attacks of the form (but not the other extraordinary qualities.) You would, for instance, get Pounce, since that's an attack, but not Darkvision.

The primary attack is made at your BAB (modified by the form's Strength.) All others are made at -5.

If he goes with the generally-accepted-but-overpowered interpretation of Monk's Belt (that you gain the Wisdom bonus to AC,) by all means grab one.

Also another quick thing, Can i turn into something that has more HD then I have in normal form?

Reason why is, in the MoMF bible in another thread says that at MoMF 1 i could turn into a Legendary Gorilla, which has 13HD, when the DM and Druid heard that they disputed it, DM said "You cannot turn into something that has more HD then you" and the Druid said "You CANNOT turn into Legendary animals" because of the way Legendary animals are made or something.

The higher HD thing kinda makes sense but if I can wildshape into it, I want to!

Can someone help me makes sense of this (and the last post)?

Ok I think i understand the extraordinary attack part, so stuff like poison i wouldnt get (yet).

What was your answer on the second question? do I get those skill bonuses?

Well, good news and bad news: yes, you can turn into legendary animals, but no, you can't turn into something with more hit dice than you normally have.

I'm not sure why the bible would suggest Legendary Ape as a valid form--keep in mind, though, that "MoMF1" isn't a fixed level. You could be a Druid5/MoMF1 or a druid 19/MoMF1. They may simply have meant that it's within the range of shapes available, provided you have sufficient hit dice.

Yes, you would get poison, because poison is an extraordinary special attack. (Notice how the special attacks are all grouped under "special attacks" in the Monster Manual?)

As for skills, you gain racial skill bonuses and racial bonus feats. Unfortunately, the entries don't always make perfectly clear what portion of a creature's skill bonus is a "racial skill bonus," or which feats are "racial bonus feats."

The MoMF bible is organized by creature type and/or size, not HD.
