Odd fellows bring me back here, lurkin and occasionally posting. Heh, finally found theres a mailbox in these forums and cleared it up a bit, thus stumbling upon the question of NWN. We all know that optimization whitin a certain ruleset is most preferred method, tho sometimes even I feel that theres just too much where I can draw material in D&D. NWN is a nice soothing enviroment where you really are limited, even in the amount of classes you can take. And there, you really cant fight against the system and ask dm can you have four classes with awesome rp story, nono its all haaard coded.

Being a somewhat old game, it still holds a certain place in my heart. Kindof the reason why I ever bothered to seek and found CO board. As the search button is still apparently down, I was just guessing how much people have forgotten this amazing and still evolving game. You know, we now have even horses. ^^

And to bring it up to your mind once again... I am at loss of ideas. My long term project in a certain server found under roleplay, and travelling by the name of Bruehawks Roleplay Server; Treegum - Heart of Winter, is to create a druid. But in core 3.0 rules, and only with the prestige class Shifter available for them... I have started many a time, and failed even more. Somehow I just cant bring myself to stop playing clerics and fighter types with improved knockdown.

So I wondered a bit more and knowing from the previous answers that this community is filled with almost likeminded people who have NWN (and all of its expansions perchange?), I take out my writing suite from the closet and present you the challenge of optimize a druid in Neverwinter Nights enviroment.

We all know the starting criteria, pointbuy 30 (oh how I have loathed its existance for so long) any standard race and 3.0 phb class. But then there comes these odd quirks along, server based nerfing and all. Only class which has been saved from them and only suffers from low magic item aquisition (and no natural spell, dangit) is druid. Usually it has been the class for roleplayers, and this is a roleplaying server mind you, but I sense great min/maxing potential I just cannot somehow unlock.

Shifter being a dreadfully sorry excuse for prestige class, and improved knockdown being the best thing at the market even for magetypes (true strike with ye olde dagger and IKD does wonders when trying to flee) there are few things set to stone. First question is, is human the best class for druid when you dont have that much of feats to pick from? Ofcourse those normal seven feats are swiftly eaten for weapon focus, improved critical, knockdown, improved knockdown, blind-fighting, toughness and one preferred, perhaps zen archery. Then again you really dont wish to deter the spellcasting progression as most of the spells and their late aquisition could prove fatal in enviroment where you haveto be able to fight with a group of buffing spells for extended period, sometimes even 20 minutes.

Keep in mind that actually getting into level 20 is a pain in the... you know where, depends really from timezone. Heh, and for future thinking, pre epic one could take four levels of some warrior class to get that sweet bab 16 when youve been denied the blessing of spikes, brambles and divine power. Best of the bunch ofcourse being champion of torm, fighter requiring you to be a human. And having few metamagic feats couldnt harm you, you never know when that extended barkskin can save you from certain critical death.

---

Ofcourse all that above was just ranting, a collection of toughts not really getting together. As it usually is with me I need someone to direct me further in this matter. So I throw my plead to the great crowd. Could anyone help a fellow adventurer?

1 level of monk really helps in NWN. You get: cleave, evasion, AC bonus and more attacks (because NWN doesn't calculate UBAB separately from normal BAB)

I play a monk 1/druid x on a PW and he's extremely powerful. AC in the high 40's, tons of immunities in water elemental or earth elemental shape, and good spells (mostly buffs and heals).
