| Sliverthorn10-05-05, 12:29 PM | Ok, Here's the setup, My DM is converting over an old group of PCs from OD&D and making them near epic level for a "Last Hurrah" type game. Seeing some of these guys old characters makes me want to kick their characters'collective asses in the Min/Max area. Here are the starting requirements, to keep the "theme" of our old characters the DM is only letting us customize the last 6 levels of the characters so I'm starting as a Half-Elf Ftr5/Wiz5 with Exotic Weapon Proficiency(Bastard Sword), Weapon Focus(Bastard Sword) and Weapon Specialization(Bastard Sword) but any feats/skills/PrCs are open from there on out. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Sliv. |

Sliv. all I can say is OUCH!! ftr 5 is the worst class level in the game, bastard sword focus means that bladesinger is out, even if you go eldritch knight you'll only cast as a 9th level wizard and spellsword sucks ok, I hate to say it but to minimize your handicap, I first need to know what books you have open to you, hopefully Five Nations or WotC website are open because I think only the Knight Phantom ( http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20050706a&page=4 )will save you here so I'm gonna say that your three posted feats were your fighter bonus feats, you need to take still spell with your wizard bonus feat, so that leaves us with 6 feats to customize, ok starting from the top: Practiced Spellcaster, mounted combat, mounted casting, spell penetration, greater spell penetration, battle caster, weapon focus (ray) you need to never cast from the same space, ever, your phantom steed has a speed nearly as high as a dragons flight speed so you should have no trouble at all circling around the battle field and dropping spells where they'll do the most good, most importantly if someone comes after you, get away fast, get to the party tank unless there's a bigger baddie there, think in three dimensions for escape and be sure to prepare walls of force to block pursuit |
| Korg al Tarr10-05-05, 01:29 PM | If you can use diplomacy($) on DM for fighter 4/ wizard 6. For Bastard sword wielding wizard there is Raumathari Battlemage from UE - FR. - 4 levels or more Take 1 level of spellsword CW, more(4 or 5) if you want to be a "fighter". If you have feats to spare (dodge, iron will) take 1 lv of Dragonslayer - Draconomicon for immunity to fear. Feats: P. spellcaster, Arcane strike fighter 5 / wizard 5 / raumathari battlemage 10 16 LV - BAB 11, wizard 10 for spells 20 LV - BAB 14, wizard 14 for spells or fighter 5 / wizard 6 / raumathari battlemage 4 / spellsword 1 / dragonslayer 1/ something 3(EK 3) 16 LV - BAB 12 , wizard 11 for spells 20 LV - BAB 16 , wizard 15 for spells |

There are now Prcs specifically designed to give you the feel of an old fighter/wizard. Point out that these PRC's are closer to dual classing from the older editions. Eldritch Knight, SpellSword or knight phantom for examples. Hmmm. Otherwise you'll have to concentrate on buffing to be effective. |
| Sliverthorn10-05-05, 05:33 PM | Jedrious: Any WotC published product is what he said, so I'll have to try to weasel in those on the website. Korg: Thanks I'll have to get my hands on a copy of UE (one of the few books I don't own). Colm: As much as logic should prevail in a discussion such as that, he is sadly totally immune to it. I did try to get a build together on my own (sorely lacking as it turns out) but built to abuse the fact that the DM doesn't care how many PrCs you use. I'll post it just for laughs: Ftr5/Wiz5/ExoticWeaponMaster1/Spellsword1/OccultSlayer1/GreenStarAdept1/Bloodmage2 |

| Sliverthorn10-05-05, 05:42 PM | This wouldn't be Basil Silverthorn, would it? No, although strangely close: Baldar Sliverthorn. |
| Ditta10-05-05, 06:00 PM | hmmm... I hate that Green Star adept.... The not customising the first few levels and that fighter level 5 has got to hurt. Have not read above, but... If you wana keep in the feel of it, go Elderich Knight, or Phantom knight(it's in my sig i think) That last level of fighter is pretty much wasted... Now it also depends if you wana go caster or fighter, if caster i suggest practiced spell caster, if fighter arcane strike. If you gona go Phantom Knight take mounted feats as well. Hmmm bastard swords.... Could TWFing be advised? I mean bastard swards are pretty nice to TWF. Perhaps take another level in fighter and 5 levels in elderich knight/phantom knight. For that fighter feat, take TWfing? Then for Elderich knight feat get Impr TWFing, and for bonus feats Arcane Strike and.... Blegh... I suggest power attack...(damn... if it were Two Handed that would have been much better) Yeah.. so thats my 1cent worth... Pretty much stoned... Gah.. |
| Torus al-Nashihra10-05-05, 07:35 PM | No, although strangely close: Baldar Sliverthorn. Ok. Thought you might be an old friend of mine from Spokane. |
