| DragonChildX04-13-06, 06:06 PM | It takes a truely evil mind to come up with a truely evil character only using the PHB and the Book of Vial Darkness! So Whos up to getting the smack layed down on them? Rules are simple. 1. Using only the PHB 3.5 and the Book of Vial Darkness. Create a truely dangerous character. 2. these classes are Exempted from the challenge: Ur Preist, Soul Eater 3. its going to be a 15th level character 4. 6 levels must be from classes in the book of Vial Darkness 6. starting gold is standard for a 15th level character and items can be bought from DMG |
| MechaboyDos04-13-06, 06:08 PM | The Book of Vial Darkness? I wasn't aware that WOTC was dabbling in chemistry texts now. |
| DragonChildX04-13-06, 06:56 PM | That was an intellectual post for sure! Anyways any takers? Should be fun! |
| PhoenixInferno04-13-06, 07:03 PM | Sounds to me you want us to make you the character for your DMs campaign and you want to camoflage it as a "challenge." |
| jstorrie04-13-06, 07:04 PM | I challenge you all to deposit money in my Paypal account! WHO IS UP FOR THE CHALLLLLLENGE??!!! |
| DragonChildX04-13-06, 07:10 PM | Actually its just a challenge. a few reasons. I learn from other peoples experiance and knowledge. My Dm and I have character challenges where we pick a level and specific rules and see what we come up with . Last one was a Good vrs bad level 20 where he used book of vial darkness and I used exalted deeds. He won  . But it would be fruitless for me to ask someone on here to make it for me since hes the one who roams these boards and introduced me to it! I even told him about the challenge in the hopes he would join up! So take it as you will. But to me its a friendly challenge! |
| Durham_Shedar04-13-06, 07:12 PM | Sounds to me you want us to make you the character for your DMs campaign and you want to camoflage it as a "challenge." Actually no, I'm his DM, and believe me nothing you guys create would be allowed! Besides, I tend to only run good based campaigns. This is an off branch of a challenge we made against each other. So how about some intelligent responces? Or is this not the character optimization board? |
| jstorrie04-13-06, 07:15 PM | This is the character optimization board. We optimize characters. You got a character you want optimized? No? |
| DragonChildX04-13-06, 07:16 PM | Well that was a bit quicker then I expected. Yeah he doesnt indulge my evil nature much! But as you can see this isnt nessisarily between me and him. Its between all who wish to join to see who can make the best character without using 5-6 books. and the definition of Optimize is: To make as perfect or effective as possible Well theres the challenge. Make it as perfect as you can! Or is it to hard with only a few books to use? |
| fnord04-13-06, 07:25 PM | Creative challenges can be quite effective in drawing responses, as demonstrated by the Commoner 1 arena challenge recently. This is not a creative challenge. |
| DragonChildX04-13-06, 07:37 PM | How is it not creative? 1. Does it lack any options? I believe the main book along with a prestigue book is quite challenging. I find its more challenging due to the fact that your limited. 2. Are the rules really that ristrictive that you dont have many options? I believe theres 15 prestigue classes that you have available (since one requires you being a vampire and I didnt state the MM was an option) 3. You will be putting up your class against what I took as some of the best creative Dungeons and Dragon minds that I have seen! 4. I dont claim to be the best, But it doesnt mean im not willing to put up a fight! I think because im the new guy im doubted in my ability and havnt gathered a reputation yet. Thats fine with me. But if you guys cant humor a guy by accepting the challenge then whats that prove. I think possibly it proves that without using a hoard of books to create a character. you lack the imagination to truely create something great out of limited resources. And that my friends is where you prove how good you really are. Anyone can suggest 12 different feats to optamize a character from 6 different books. But what can you create with only two. As I said earlier. Take the challenge however you want. But dont come online and critisize and idea or challenge I have just because you seem to think its below you. |
| Durham_Shedar04-13-06, 07:41 PM | Creative challenges can be quite effective in drawing responses, as demonstrated by the Commoner 1 arena challenge recently. This is not a creative challenge. I will agree to that. However, creating characters with PHB, DMG, and VILE is rather limiting. And of course, you he did state 15th level, and 6 of those levels must be from a prestige class in the bovd. However, thanks for your post, at least you gave a responce that was not condesending. |

Congratulations! You are a hulking, generically hellspawned bastard- and a lawyer. Your days are spent convicting the innocent of trumped up charges; your nights are spent harrassing the neighbors. Every time you get paid, you immediately use your funds to purchase livestock. You vent your unholy rage upon these harmless farm animals by punting them over cliffs or into the nearest house/person/orphanage. If you wish, you can also purchase flint and tinder/a torch and light your barnyard projectile on fire before launching it into the nearest soup kitchen; just watch for singed toes. |

Congratulations, you didn't stick to the guidelines of the challenge at all. PHB, BOVD, DMG for items. NO MM nothing else. |
| Talosan04-13-06, 08:11 PM | PHB, BOVD, DMG for items. Are you suggesting chickens and goats are non-core here or something? |
| jstorrie04-13-06, 08:14 PM | I think possibly it proves that without using a hoard of books to create a character. you lack the imagination to truely create something great out of limited resources. Don't come up in here, ask us to chew your food for you, and then pull sass when we refuse. You think people here can't make a character out of whatever you name? Flip through the archives, genius. Then learn some manners on your way out. |
| Durham_Shedar04-13-06, 08:22 PM | Don't come up in here, ask us to chew your food for you, and then pull sass when we refuse. You think people here can't make a character out of whatever you name? Flip through the archives, genius. Then learn some manners on your way out. Actually, I believe he has every right to do that. He posted a challenge. Everyone is welcome to post responces, and everyone is entitled to their opinions. However, when people post garbage replies, that have nothing to do with the post, it is a waste of time and energy. Personally, if I was Dragonchild, I'd just kill the thread, as it is now going to be filled with useless posts, rather then with posts sticking with the original idea. As for those like you who believe we are here to "have you chew are food", meh, just don't post. It's pretty simple. Stop wasting our space with your un-needed posts. Perhaps you'd like it if we started posting off tpoic reply to your conversaions. As for not being able to create a charcter for this challenge? Who knows, so far we have got nothing but ignorant responces and off topic remarks. |
| Durham_Shedar04-13-06, 08:26 PM | Are you suggesting chickens and goats are non-core here or something? Ok, so most of his reply was non-core. :P Actually, in spite of the fact it was using disallowed books, it was pretty good. |
| FromTheShadows04-13-06, 08:26 PM | Congratulations, you didn't stick to the guidelines of the challenge at all. PHB, BOVD, DMG for items. NO MM nothing else. The livestock prices are in the PHB. No MM in the sense that we can't pull creature stats from it? Guess that means no polymorph/wild shape/paladin mounts. Anyways, I apologize. Here, let me make a more serious and VILE[/booming voice] entry. I'll keep this at level 1, so that you can build on top of it and therefore not have everyone else complain about there being a lack of effort on the part of the creator and his DM and/or alternate account. [B]The Lonely Man Male Human Expert 1 Skills of Note: Hide, Move Silently, Bluff, Profession[Gravedigger]. Knowledge[Religion] is optional, and you can take it if you wish; the PHB does say that it governs knowledge about the undead. | Talosan04-13-06, 08:38 PM | The Lonely Man Male Human Expert 1 The worst part is that he's an expert |
| Durham_Shedar04-13-06, 08:42 PM | The livestock prices are in the PHB. No MM in the sense that we can't pull creature stats from it? Guess that means no polymorph/wild shape/paladin mounts.. I'll keep this at level 1, so that you can build on top of it and therefore not have everyone else complain about there being a lack of effort on the part of the creator and his DM and/or alternate account... No lack of effort here, we are both currently working on our own ideas. And no, we are not the same person, infact the reason he has not replied is because he left work about and half hour ago, so you won't here back from Dragonchild X until tomorrow. [B]The Lonely Man Male Human Expert 1 Skills of Note: Hide, Move Silently, Bluff, Profession[Gravedigger]. No dmg for classes. lol So that means no prestege class etc either, other then what comes out of bovd.... I was thinking barb 4/ ftr 4 / diciple of dispater 7 or along that lines.. Rage, power attack, extra damage and bonuses to hit from disciple. Maybe go scythe. Won't critical often, but it sure would leave a mark. Don't have any books on hand, so limited ideas right now. |

| FromTheShadows04-13-06, 09:11 PM | Ok, I am definatly going to have my PC's meet this guy. We need to optimize him further I'll elaborate on the build further later; for now I have to attend to a family movie viewing. Actually, scratch Cancer Mage for him; I have another build now in the making (after said movie is done, of course). |

Thanks for the info. As for your commit about stupid, I though there was rules about flaming and baiting/trolling. What the hell? We are just trying to have a little fun, get some ideas. Ok, so you're undead so deformity obese doesnt harm you, you're not fatigued from rage, and Lifedrinker doesn't bother you. Take the domains War and Luck(you can design your own god(PH)) and take focus in greataxe. Bone creature template makes piercing and slashing do half damage, so if they are wielding bludgeoning, SUNDER. Activate boots and use the thrall's Dual actions and reaching touch, charge and stay 10 feet away, then use your second turn to lay 4 attacks. When they move in, attack of opportunity. Assuming all your attacks hit, that's -12 levels before they even get to swing. Keep in mind you can reroll if one of your attacks misses. +11 init. means you're likely to go first, but if you don't, the 38AC is pretty good considering the restrictions, you take half damage from piercing and slashing, you cant be sneaked or critted, and they have 20% chance to miss. PLUS Leadership to do with what you please... |
| Diplominator04-13-06, 11:02 PM | I think a large part of the hostility you have been getting is that all too often people come here with ludicrous requests to make them teh ub3r 1337 ch4r4kt3r of d00m, and it can get really annoying when they are just being lazy and let the people of the CO boards do all the work. Now, this is not that, but the original post was very similar to those made by lazy fools like that, and I believe that is the reason for the hostility. Just FYI |

It gives the impression that you're just looking for someone to make a character for you. Most CO regulars are happy to help out, but the whole "contest" angle has been abused several times in the past by lazy people who don't want to go through the effort of even attempting to make a character. |

This is a cool build and would be a tough opponent. I love it. Thank you. |

Now, this is not that, but the original post was very similar to those made by lazy fools like that, and I believe that is the reason for the hostility. Just FYI Well I thank you for the info, and if I wanted to be lazy and have the CO boards create me some killer character for gaming, i'd simply take one of the millions already on the board. Believe me, I read this posts like a fanatic. You never know whan it could be useful someday. ;) However, that is not much of an excuse for the hostile responces. If you feel that way, your better just to keep quite, know one is going to post, other then the person who created the link, repeating themselves over and over until they get board, and then it would be done. I thank you for your input though, and I am sure Dragonchild X will make some addtional guildlines because of this. We are not lazy, just inquisitive. Unfortunately Dragonchild has the bovd, so I can't work on a build at the current moment. You can be rest assussed it will not be super optimized like what some of these people build, but it could still be fun. |

I'd suggest 32 point buy, but we will have to wait to see what Dragonchild has in mind. Usually we use 4d6 drop the low, but for contests like this, set numbers or atleast point buy would be better. Don't worry, I know he has something planned, he took the bovd with him, so I can't work on squat currently. lol (We share books, and he is the only one in the group who has the bovd). |
| gamurai04-14-06, 11:22 AM | I think some peoples responses to the original post have been unnecessarily mean spirited. With the disciple of dispater's critical improvement a simple fighter 10/disciple of dispater 10 can be truly ferocious especially with power attack and improved trip. Or take a dip into ranger for two weapon fighting feats and some more skill points. |
| DragonChildX04-14-06, 11:46 AM | Alright. 32 point buy in works for me. I recall saying "So take it as you will. But to me its a friendly challenge!" and thought that would clear it up as just that. a friendly challenge! Anyways im working on a character of my own right now and will try and post him by tonight. (And if there are any rules that I should have included to make it so it didnt look like i was being some noob build me a uber then someone should have pointed some things out. You all have to remember im pretty new to the boards and dont know what BS you guys have had to deal with other people!) |
| DragonChildX04-14-06, 02:18 PM | This is what I have sofar (Only thing im stuck on is if human would be classisfied as creature and be able to use the template. if not then back to the drawing board LOL) My Vial Champion Of Evil Name: Vashan Durathe Race: Human Corupted Height: 5'11 Weight: 254 pounds Class: (rogue or sorc, not sure which i want) /Monk/thrall of Demogorgon Level Progression: 1,7/4 Movement: 70 (unmodified by haste) Flurry Attack Base: +4,+4 Unarmed Damage = 2d8 Racial abilities +4 Natural armor 1 die type higher with unarmed attacks acid immune darkvision 60ft Damage Reduction 10/+3 when touching I do +Vile Damage of half creatures Hit Dice (+6) Saves of all my SA increase by +4 Fast Healing 6 Items: Monks Belt 13,000 Gloves Of Dexterity +4 36,000 Bracers Of Armor +4 = 25,000 Boots of Speed = 12,000 Bands of Bilarro - 26,000 Robe of Archmage - 75,000 (For spell resistance, AC bonus and Save Bonus) Necklace of Fireballs type VII = 8700 Total: 195700 So with this race combined with monk and thrall of demogorgon in one round I can do (Regular attack, Regular Attack, Hasted Attack) (2d8 + Str +6 , 2d8 + Str +6 , 2d8 + Str +6) X2 for Dual action class ability for Demogorgon thats 12d8+strengthx6+32 vile This is calculated with only a +2 strength mod So I run up to someone and goo them for 96 damage (half what i could roll on the die! max 140damage) |

Or take a dip into ranger for two weapon fighting feats and some more skill points. I was thinking Barbarian for extra rage damage, fighter for some extra feats, then disciple. The damage bonuses and the critical improvement stack nicely and could cause a lot of damage. Maybe go spiked chain and make a tripping, sundering, raging killing machine? :) |
| Durham_Shedar04-14-06, 06:08 PM | So with this race combined with monk and thrall of demogorgon in one round I can do (Regular attack, Regular Attack, Hasted Attack) (2d8 + Str +6 , 2d8 + Str +6 , 2d8 + Str +6) X2 for Dual action class ability for Demogorgon thats 12d8+strengthx6+32 vile This is calculated with only a +2 strength mod So I run up to someone and goo them for 96 damage (half what i could roll on the die! max 140damage) Seeing as I don't have the books on hand, I don't know if your calculations are correct, or if this is possible. However, if it is correct, not bad at all DCX. |
| Bozar04-14-06, 06:24 PM | Corrupted isn't worth the +ECL. Oh Great Demogorgon, pit your 2 servants against one another, and see who rises to the top!! I'm not trying to hack you down or anything, but unless you are undead or a construct, lifedrinker is going to rip you apart. It's not the damage, its the 2 negative levels that hurt. Plus bone creature's half damage from piercing and slashing will make it hard to lay any real damage on him. My servant can... Regular attack, Regular attack, Regular attack, hasted attack (x2 for thrall). Added up thats: 8d12+128 (average 180, Max.224). AND 16 negative levels. My 38 armor class isn't even counting dodge. My main attacks are at +25 to hit, and i can reroll if i miss(once/day). |
| DragonChildX04-14-06, 06:30 PM | Oh its an impressive build he created but didnt follow the rules. No MM races remember. Only PHB and Book of Vial Darkness. Since the vampire race is in a MM it doesnt count! I did say in one of the posts I believe theres 15 prestigue classes that you have available (since one requires you being a vampire and I didnt state the MM was an option) and actually my guys a monk. No piercing slashing. He attacks with fists! |
| Bozar04-14-06, 06:34 PM | hmm... good point. That's probably the best way to hurt my character... He can't sunder your fists. If monks only did non-lethal, i wouldn't care because undead are immune to non-lethal damage... GRR!!! |
| DragonChildX04-14-06, 06:36 PM | Your characters still quite impressive and im glad you joined the competition. So any pointers with my monk? What did you like, I know you arnt a fan of the template. Any errors you see? |
| Bozar04-14-06, 06:39 PM | Hmm... Damage reduction/Fast healing are good combo. My only problem with monk is that he doesn't have a huge range of kickass feats to choose from in the small bok selection. I'm sure you could have chosen some nastier items tho. |
| Bozar04-14-06, 06:41 PM | WOAH! i overlooked the bands of bilarro in your build... Man those are sexy... exellent choice. |
| DragonChildX04-14-06, 06:43 PM | Just for those characters that want to underestimate me. I love those items and with the bands of Balaro you can flail those arms around and try to get me even with your level draining abilities all you want. by time you break out of them Ive already hit you and hit you hard! |
| Bozar04-14-06, 06:46 PM | I guess ill have to hope my 20% displacement works lol |
| DragonChildX04-14-06, 06:47 PM | So what did you think of the character itself though? A monk/Thrall demo. I tried to use something creative and it seemed you had a similiar idea but went a different angle then I did! |
| Bozar04-14-06, 06:53 PM | Personally i like it. My character gave up a lot of the thrall's abilities and focused on others. My character would never use touch of fear or rotting touch because I have a ****-poor charisma, and pitiful natural attacks. I feel that your character incorporated these abilities far better than i did lol. |
| Bozar04-14-06, 06:56 PM | Hmm. Because you have no fighter levels i'd say go rogue and use the +1feat of the thrall like i did. Because you'll end up being a lower level, you'll need all the feats you can get. |
| DragonChildX04-14-06, 07:00 PM | Thats relieved to know you like it. As I said this is for my benifit to learn how to utilize these classes better and learn from other people. Im hoping other people come into the challenge and see it for what the challenge really was. A CHALLENGE But did I make any mistakes with the class or calculations (and remember that was with a +2 strength bonus. Could have always increased that and since my template gives me +4 to my strength I could easily had alot more strength for more damage) |
| DragonChildX04-16-06, 12:39 PM | :bump: bumping this |
| fricot_104-16-06, 02:48 PM | you say make an evil character but take out the two best? if you could use Ur-priest and soul eater id go sorcerer 8 / Ur-Priest 1 / Soul Eater 6 your sorcerer and Ur-Priest levels stack for determining spells per day (so you have level nine spells) your a level 6 soul eater - self explanitory |
| DragonChildX04-17-06, 11:57 AM | Actually the challenge was for people to be more creative. Or else I would have made a soul eater monk and flurry of blowed all your levels away from you! At least with the challenge excluding those well 3 classes because one requires you to be a vampire, At least people can be more creative |
| tsuyoshikentsu04-17-06, 12:30 PM | Here's how to win: Be a Cancer Mage and catch Festring Anger and Vile Rigidity or whatever. |
| DragonChildX04-17-06, 12:56 PM | I was expecting this cheese combo! But wheres the challenge if someone just cheeses his way. THeres no imagination or creativity! |
| Bill Bisco: Average Adventurer04-17-06, 02:27 PM | You'll find out that a Lot of Imagination and creativity come when people decide to optimize and don't limit themselves to 4 books :D |
| tsuyoshikentsu04-17-06, 02:38 PM | I was expecting this cheese combo! But wheres the challenge if someone just cheeses his way. THeres no imagination or creativity!Look, you've limited the field to what, two books? You're not going to get much besides two item combos. Would you prefer, then, a Ranger/Disciple of Dispater wielding two Scimitars and taking Improved Critical? At what point does ti become uncheesy enough to satisfy your tastes? Because let me tell you, you've already bvasically excluded anything optimized. |
| Necromas05-18-06, 07:03 PM | A Fighter Type Class 6/Disciple of Dispater 10 would turn out pretty nasty, with full BAB, high all round saves, and d10 hp, also, DoD gives you 4 skill points per level, and hide, MS, disable device, search as class skills. (they can also detect traps like rogues). But the real benefit would be the 4x crit range you get from 8 dispater levels and improved crit, grab yourself a 18-20 crit range weapon like a scimitar, kopesh, or great falchion, and you'll be critting like crazy. And you also gain +2 insight bonus to attack and damage. Another good thing about DoD is that you get stoneskin and iron body as spells you can use. Iron body is very powerful (15/adamantine DR, +6str, -6dex, construct immunities, but you get half move speed, and cant be healed cause your basically turned into a construct) and it lasts 18 minutes for you, but if you dont like the iron body ability you dont really need more then 8 DoD levels. A good technique for DoD is to simply add 8 DoD levels to any already gishy TWF of THF (Two Handed Fighting) build, and use dual 18-20 weapons or a two handed 18-20 weapon. |
| freelancer_bob05-18-06, 07:26 PM | This was a pretty hilarious thread. I won't bother singling out funnies, being a lazy swine and all, and , not having The BOVD, I can't really contribute, but I would like to add: VILE, It's Spelt VILE /Bet he calls em Rouges too..... Ehh. I feel bad about sounding so harsh. Normally I wouldn't post this but I just typed it and I'd hate to put it to waste. |
| Kresalak05-18-06, 08:48 PM | Just to note, Kaorti Resin makes that crit multiplier x4. Just saying. |
| Colyn_Kell05-18-06, 09:35 PM | Dragonchild, and the DM: If you dont like what some people have to say on these boards, its better to just ignore them. Responding will generally just get you more ridicule, especially if you use logic, and happen to misspell a few words. When people run out of real targets for their verbal abuse, they tend to start nitpicking over grammar and spelling. I like the limitations. Ill try to have a build by tomorrow or Saturday. |
