Ok, here's the scoop. I started a cleric of Odin and wanted to make him the melee type cleric. After a few sessions of play i quickly realized there was no way to really keep up with the fighers, i'd have to waste precious time buffing myself if i wanted to be able to melee at all. I got knocked out several times for trying to mix it up with the bad guys.

So! I decided to refocus things and try a different approach. I started dishing out buffs like crazy to the fighters types in the party and dropped into light armor to get better mobility. This has worked much better since i dont almost die so much and everyone benefits from the buffing i give out. I dont miss melee at all but i need some help to get the DCs of my spells up. Of course the easiest way is to increase my wis, which i'll do at every 4th level. I made the mistake of taking a bump to int at 4th so i could cast 3rd level Wizard spells with my domain power.

I've been using BOED a lot lately since you can cast the Sanctified spells spontaneously. (ended last friday's session with a 2 str from all the sacrifices)

Ok enough gabbing, here he is

Str 14 Dex 12 Con 17 Int 13 Wis 18 Cha 17

Feats
1st Power Atk, Divine Might
3rd Scribe Scroll
6th Zen Archery

I think i'm done with the combat feats, i thought maybe rapid reload but maybe i shoudl spend the cash on a special crossbow instead. What i'm looking for are suggestions for feats or items to help get my spell DCs up. I regularly cast Owl's Wis on myself before a fight and sometimes Eagle's Splendor to help with the divine might.

The only books allowe are things that are 3.5
PHB
MM
DMG
BOED
CW

there may be a few other books out there, so long as they are 3.5 and wizards books, they are ok.

any help you could give would be greatly appreciated. Right now i'm 7th level.

Well, first off, as a cleric, you do touch spells. If you're touching the bad guys (In that not so special way) Touch of Golden Ice. It affects touch spells (One of my favorite tricks) AND it doesn't work on the goody goodies so your friends won't get hurt. Also if you're doing that, Intuitive Strike is good so you can be sure you grab them.

Also if you have scribe scroll, item crafting is good sos to buff up your friends and make nifty wonderous items (Slotless of course, I prefer earrings) on you that you can activate powers that duplicate your many buffing spells and don't require con checks if you get whacked while using.

Also if you like all those good spells in the BoEDs, Spell Focus Good is a way to go.

If i were to take spell focus, what school should it be? can you take spell focus just in Sanctified spells?

I'll have to look up Intuitive strike and Touch of golden Ice, i dont have my books here with me and i'm not sure exactly what they do.

Also i'm thinking of taking one level of Heriophant later for the reach spells ability. I dont like to get into melee all that often.

thanks for the help and keep it coming!

Any suggestions for spell focus or how to get my dcs a little higher would be welcome

Well, in regards to Sanctified Spells, get Spell Focus Good. The majority (90% I think) have to good descripter.

Int Strike- Wis Mod to attacks
Touch of Gold- Touch evil beasties, they get ravaged unles they save (14 I think, but eventually someone will fail if you poke them with your hand enough) Thing is, it works when you touch them however. Nat attacks, flurry of blows (That just sounds sick for some reason) or touch spells sos I like it.

DC's Higher... Up your wis no matter what. Might think about picking up Craft Wonderous Items and making Peraphits of Wis. My only suggestion with Sanctified Spells is that you have a couple of Restoration spells slotted in so if you take a nasty hit on one (Like max str drain) cast Lesser or Regular Restore and get back in the fighting.

Also think about hitting wonderworker once you get 9th level spells. Bonus spells make up for the lack of 9th level progression. Just use the bonus spells to make up the slots you'd lose (You DO come out ahead by doing that) and pop the rest into 8 or 9 slots and blast away with firestorm.

Awesome, i didnt know you could take spell focus Good. I thought you had to pick a school of magic like evocation, divination, etc.

So you think Wonderworker instead of Heirophant? are there any other bonuses from the wonderworker PrC?

Intuitive strike sounds awesome. Since my str is low and gets lower all the time with sanctified spells that would help a ton. As for keeping restorations, i've made a few scrolls already and had to use them during our last encounter. I had a whopping 2 str after fighting a large earth elemental. We couldnt hit it iwth our atks and it had hella dam reduction. So i hit it with a hammer of reightousness a few times.

thanks

1st level you get 2 spell slots, 2nd you get 3, 3rd you get 2. That's instead of progression (Think your caster level still goes up).

Also you get bonus exalted feats at each level. I'd pick 2 levels of that and one of Heiro for the Reach. That way, if your progression is all cleric or a PrC with progression, you can use the bonus slots to pick up the slots you'd loose from going into Wonderworker. Bad thing is their BAB sucks, only 3 levels of it and only Will as a good save, but that all can be worked around.

the easiest way to increase your spell save DCs was to pick up the madness domain (DotF) But, that book isn't allowed for you so...

there is a feat in the BoED that ups your spell save dcs against evil BBEGs. (IIRC, it's simply spell focus: good as mentioned above)

one level of hierophant for reach spell as recommended...

always remember that clerics can create new spells too. consider writing up a 4th level spell that increases the DC of your next spell by 2. oh yeah, and make it so you can cast it as a free action. if you want to sight a source for DM approval of such a spell, it's in the Magic of Faerun book...

either way...just my 0.02 cp

Buy, or make yourself via Craft Wonderous Item, Pearls of Power: Karma. They raise your caster level by four, I believe.

Well, caster levels all nice but actually increasig the DC is the trouble. I say a couple Karma beads (if you take the +4 spell level one off the necklace, you can sell it for more that you should be able to according to the 3.0 dmg :D ) and some Ioun Stones. Also, only seen wiz ones, but divine ones might work. Spell School Rods. Sure they're divine, but they put the appropriate Wiz school in the spell description for a reason.

Another mean thought. You said you use Divine Power and all those normal "Make yourself bigger" spells. Well, if you make yourself bigger, pick up a melee weapon that's one size catagory bigger than a med size person would use. It's dmg dice would be one step higher and I THINK (Prolly VERY wrong about this) it's crit range is better too. But it'll still do more normal damage so that might take a bit away from the streangth decreases caused by the Exalted spells.

Thanks for all the ideas.

Will increasing my caster level actually increase the dc's of my spells or would the metamagic feat be better for that?

I'll ahve to look in BoED for the spell focus feat. That would really help me out since i'm using it so much now.

Well, your caster level don't mean jack when figuring DC's. You need School Spec, and anything that gives +1 DC to all spells, most of which got nerfed in going to 3.5. That's why I like the broad Spell Specializations. 10+Spell Level+Ability Score Mod+ Anything Else (The +2, those +1 things) = DC
