Hi I'm putting together a campaign and the melee oriented character we had flaked out before we began. We have a wizard/rogue and a rogue so the rogue volunteered to remake a character that was more straighfoward melee oriented but we also want him to be able to be able to be a bit of a skill monkey.

We are beginning at level two and I allow The Corebook and Expanded Core books, The Complete Series, Races of the Wild, Races of stone, unearthed Arcana, Sword and Fist, and Arms and Equipment, and unapproachable East.

The Stats rolled were 11, 17, 9, 16, 12, 13

We'd like the race to be human as the region the campaign takes place in is dominated by mostly humans and a few other humanoid races.

Would a Ranger/Barbarian/Fighter do the trick using the wolf totem variant of Barbarian and Whirling Frenzy?

An Urban Ranger/Rogue/Fighter maybe?

What base class combo pulls off a character capable of straight up melee fighting (maybe not the best) and also a solid skills character as well. He doesn't need to be the best at both rather just capable. Any thoughts?

Waitaminute, you have a wizard/rogue, and you need the melee guy to do skills? That doesn't make any sense. Kudos to the guy who was going to play a rogue to step up and tank, but you kick that wizard in the arse and tell his high-int butt to memorize knock and get with the cross-class, cause he's the optimum one for the job...much more than ranger/barb/fighter, thats for dang sure.

Otherwise, I'd go ranger/rogue, it's a classic...two weapon fighting with sneak attacks works nicely every time...maybe invisible blade?

Incarnate 3/Totemist 2 would add a large dose of skillmonkey while still making you more combat capable.
