Browsed around a bit but I didn't see anything about one.

Next month I'm starting in a game where I want to play an item creator. We're starting at level 6 and probably ending around 13th.

Are there any official PrCs /feats in books or magazines that help with item creation or would mesh well? Or are my choices no different than for any other kind of mage, and I'm just spending feats on item creation?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

(Oh. And I'm looking for something other than Artificer, it doesn't really work for the DM)

Look up Artificer in Ebberon.

That would be THE crafting character.

Dang that was a fast response. Would be a good call, but I'd prefer the real spellcaster route. Sorry, I'd forgotten about that class until you mentioned it.

Magesmith Inc. (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=719014)

Effigy Master, Gnome Artificer (MoF) also spring to mind.

Well, there's the Maester class in CV but it sucks pretty hard (in my opinion).

Some people like taking a two level dip into Chameleon from RoD for the floating feat. That way you can craft most items without having to actually take a feat. Problem with that route is that if you want to actually try to be an arcane caster it hits you for 2 CLs.

Artificer's are real casters! They just have to make items to mimic real spellcasting :P Wands of Fireball are just as good as the real thing! (and often better with Metamagic Spell Trigger from Warlock 6)

Are you all blind or just forgetful? I have two words for you: Imbue Item. If an artificer is no good for you play a bloody warlock. You can now make any magic item without knowing the required spells.

On a side note, the single most important item you can buy as a crafter is the Thought Bottle out of Complete Arcane if you haven't thought of that yet. If you don't know it already, it effectively reduces any xp cost you have to pay to 500xp. And it only costs 20,000gp. If you don't buy this and want to play a crafter, I need to slap you. Come to think of this if you play any caster at all or anyone who needs to pay xp costs at all and don't buy this I need to slap you.

Speaking of blind or forgetful, a 6th level character neither has the 12 levels required to get imbue item nor the 20,000gp to spend on a thought bottle.

I'll keep the thought bottle in mind in case I can ever make/afford it though. Thanks.

Thought Bottle
If you actually BUY a Thought Bottle, I need to slap you. If your DM allows it, I need to slap you both. That thing is entirely too abusive.

There is a feat in PGTF that reduces the crafting cost of a specific item creation feat, useful if you plan to concentrate on a genre of item creation. I think eberron has a few similar feats as well.:)
