A Cunning Gish [Archive] - Wizards Community

10-09-06, 12:50 AM I wish I had my books on me right now, but I'm going to post this anyway and fill in the gaps later. I've had this build rolling around my head for a while, and I've settled on the 20 level build, for now.

Beguiler 7/Swashbuckler 3/Eldritch Knight 10

If I remeber correctly, that's the magic BAB +16, and caster level 16(maybe 20 with practiced spellcaster) and access to 8th level Beguiler spells. I was probably going to go with human, but I'm open to suggestions. For feats I was thinking: wpn finess, arcane strike, spectral skirmisher, and I don't really know what else. This definately isn't set yet, more of a concept, and liek I said, I don't access to my books now, but when I do, I'll probably post a full level-by-level breakdown with class features, feats, and spell selections. In the meantime, suggestions on just about anything are welcome.

10-09-06, 01:13 AM Hrmm.. interesting, but I'm not sure the Beguiler makes the best gish.

All they really have are illusions and enchantments. Sure, there are some helpful spells like Haste, Mirror Image, etc, but no classic buffing spells like Polymorph.

10-09-06, 01:23 AM Well the idea is not go for the raw power of a classic gish, but a more, well, cunning route. Use things like invisibility, blur, etc to make you harder to hit, plus you will have decent skills, good INT synergy, and a plethora of disruption techiniques in battle. You esentially have all the benefits of the beguiler spell list in a melee package.

10-09-06, 08:38 PM Well, I want to keep the three levels of swashbuckler for the int to damage. Also, while I recognise it's effectiveness, I hate builds that have a bunch of little dips into classes, it's just ugly.

What's Abjurant Champion and what book is it in?

10-10-06, 12:11 AM Abjurant Champion is from the new Complete Mage. It's a 5-level PrC that is basically a gish wet dream and should go into pretty much every non-chameleon gish build. Here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=10285275&postcount=69) is the post from the Complete Mage preview thread with info on it.

And I was thinking taking DSM to 8 or 10 :o but the build would have 15-16 BAB, 16-17 CL and no swashbuckler levels, so oh well.

Maybe use Master of Yuirwood if you can? Or Cyran Avenger, depending on your setting. Each have 4 or more skillpoints per level and a better skill list than EK. Master of Yuirwood is pretty juicy overall imo. Oh, and Harper Paragon is also amazing great but I think it only has 2 skillpoints/level. Could be wrong though. Anyway all those classes make me think "cunning gish" more than EK.
