i was thinking of a cool pc concept for my friends level 8 campaigne
so i thought of half dragon (lvl adjustment +3) whose a half giant (lvl adjustment +1 so im considered large size.. so i get wings) thats a fourth level fighter and approaching the pretisge class in exalted deeds, i forget the name  that is based on slaying evil dragons

my rolls before either of the races modified them were...

str-18 (becomes 30 +8 half dragon +2 half giant +1 lvl 4 +1 lvl 8)
dex-14 (becomes 12 -2 half giant)
con-16 (becomes 20 +2 half dragon +2 half giant)
int-11 (becomes 13 +2 half dragon)
wis-12
cha-9 (becomes 11 +2 half dragon)

so they are at...
Str - 30 (+10)
Dex - 12 (+1)
Con - 20 (+5)
Int - 13 (+1)
Wis - 12 (+1)
Cha - 11 (+0)

for feats (i get 3 from fighter, 3 from being lvl 8) were going to be..
1) dive attack
2) two weapon fighting
3) -to be determined-
4) -to be determined-
5) -to be determined-
6) -to be determined-

are there any suggestions on how to make him better?
** there is no gold piece limit, but i want to keep it under 70k and the DM lets us relocate stat points - ex. take one of str and add one to cha**

thanks in advance

hmmm well two weapon fighting would be a good way to go! But dont go Fighter. Go ranger with Dragon as your favored enemy for the nice bonuses and TWF tree.

so 4 ranger with the twf tree...
1) dive attack
R) two weapon fighting
R) endurance
R) Track
2) dual strike? (use two longswords on one dive attack...they attack at the same time... so they both do double damage, and both with +10 str mod, thats alot of dmg)
3) -to be determined-

thats looking alot better now.

If you are looking for a nastier combo then half giant. Try looking at the Centaur as your base creature. Im halving alot of fun with my half dragon centaur and you get a +16 strength for uber smackage!

I'd say skip the Half Giant and go for a Double Weapon Proficiency. (Two bladed sword or Orc Double Axe.) Or, even better, Bastard Sword, Power Attack and Cleave/Great Cleave to maximise the damage output.

Based on your post, it seems pretty clear that you have no idea how Level Adjustment works.

In a 8th level campaign start, with LA of 4, you can only have 4 class levels. Class levels determine your HD, feats and skills, and stat bumps. ECL (=HD+LA) determines your starting wealth. So assuming you go with Half-Dragon Half-Giant Fighter 4, your character will look more like:

Half-Dragon 1 (LA)
Half-Dragon 2 (LA)
Half-Dragon 3 (LA)
Half-Giant 1 (LA)
Fighter 1 - <feat>, <Fighter feat>
Fighter 2 - <Fighter feat>
Fighter 3 - <feat>
Fighter 4 - <Fighter feat>

How does 10+3d10+20 (46.5 avg) HP sound as an 8th level frontline fighter? Doesn't sound all that good to me, although wings, and Half-Dragon immunities are kinda nice.

Great Cleave? What are you, crazy? That's one of the worst feats ever.

i guess i got it wrong..
i always thought you got feats/level dependant benefits from your effective character level
at least i know for next time

Half dragons can be ok for a fighter, the lower hps kinda sucks, but you can work around that. Unless you have your heart set on TWF I would recommend against it. You have to remember that your offhand only gets 1/2 your str bonus to damage. Also unless you go pure ranger you need a lot of dex to get the TWF feats.

You are better off going with a 2-handed weapon for the 1.5 x str and double power attack. Power attack and cleave are both nice for a high str fighter. Other useful feats are combat brute or shock trooper from CW. I always like combat reflexes at some point. I believe you get some reach at a half-giant, so that works well, both for the extra AOOs, plus alowing AOOs while flatfooted. Flyby attack might be nice if you plan on flying a lot. Also useful in the flight department are improved flight(RoTW), Diving Charge(RoTW), and Greater Flyby(Savage species I think).

One nice tactic I used with a character was I made a spiked chain based tripper who was a half dragon. Since trip is based off of STR bonus and size, If this character took improved trip and EWP:spiked chain he would have 20' reach and a +18 trip check. This helps counter the lower hps on the half dragon since less monsters can close up on you. Though it does tend to annoy the DM a bit in my experience. And even if you can't trip it, 20' reach gives you a lot of AOOs. If you decide to go the chain tripper route you might check Snow Savant's Fighter-20: The "Gatling Chain Gun" Tripper (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=163005)

that's a lot of LA, why not consider being a dragonborn from races of the dragon ?

Until the DM gets sick of tripped monsters and starts putting snakes, behir, oozes and other untrippables into the enemy lineup.

I recommend taking one level of fighter so you can go the non standard "Two Handed Weapon and ARMOR SPIKES." route.

Armor spikes are a light martial weapon and can be used as an offhand attack. So it's the best of both worlds. Two Handed Damage and Two Weapon Damage together. Kickass.

okay so large autimatically gives you ten foot reach?

i am not sure that is right?

But regardless, i have a Halg-ogre (savage species) half black dragon for an ecl 0f 4 that is holding his won in most battles

he hasa good natural armor bonus, a good con, has the two weapon fighting tree from ranger (he is only level three) uses two normal sized great axes he is third level and the rest of the party is 5

i have an ac of 22 ( +3 from studded leather, +8 natural, +1 ring of protection, +1 dex, -1 size)
two weapon fighting i am at +10 for both, plus if i am in a jam u can bite if you need it at +5

so three attacks at third level, with a 30 strength, big damge, and ungodly when you score a critical hit

3d12+ 30 with main hand
throw on a breath wepon for a solid one round range attack when fighting something big and you will be doing well....your part will love you
carry a larde greatsword or greataxe as a secondary, or primary...for some major hits
