| JosephKell05-09-04, 03:51 AM | The new XPH is out, and I just got my grimey-undeserving hands on it *insert evil cackle soundbyte*. The Psychic Warrior could replace the Fighter, Barbarian, and Cleric as the Melee Backbone. Because the Psychic Warrior is basically a Fighter that trades some feats and BAB for psionic powers. For that reason, it isn't all that much of a good idea to be a Human (as you will probably be using a feat on Psionic Talent to have 2 power points at level 1, so you might as well be a Maenad and get a few other perks). Half-Giant is a great rac for Psychic Warriors because of their Powerful Build (use weapons one-size larger at no penalty). Half-Giant Sledge-Sword Race: Half-Giant (+2 Str, +2 Con, -2 Dex) 25 pt: Str 16, Dex 10, Con 16, Int 10, Wis 14, Cha 8 28 pt: Str 16, Dex 10, Con 16, Int 10, Wis 15, Cha 9 32 pt: Str 16, Dex 10, Con 16, Int 10, Wis 16, Cha 10 Rolled: Wis, Str, Con, Int, Dex, Cha Weapon of Choice: Large Greatsword (3d6, ohhhh yeah) HD (ECL) Levels: Stuff (pp/day based on 25 point buy) 1 (2) Psw 1: Stomp 1/day (Cha based DC), Power Attack, Cleave, Expansion, 3 pp/day 2 (3) Psw 2: Weapon Focus (Greatsword), Metaphysical Weapon, 5 pp/day 3 (4) Psw 3: Psionic Weapon, Force Screen,6 pp/day 4 (5) Psw 4: +1 Wis (15), Psionic Lion's Charge, 11 pp/day 5 (6) Psw 5: Psionic Meditation, Animal Affinity, 14 pp/day 6 (7) Psw 6: Great Cleave, Body Adjustment, 19 pp/day 7 (8) Psw 7: Vampiric Blade, 24 pp/day 8 (9) Psw 8: +1 Wis (16), Greater Psionic Weapon, Greater Concealing Amorpha, 33 pp/day 9 (10) Psw 9: Deep Impact, Empathetic Feedback, 38 pp/day 10 (11) Psw 10: Weapon of Energy, 44 pp/day 11 (12) Psw 11: Quicken Power, Energy Adaptation, 52 pp/day 12 (13) Psw 12: +1 Wiz (17), Improved Initiative, Truevenom Weapon, 63 pp/day 13 (14) Psw 13: Oak Body, 72 pp/day 14 (15) Psw 14: Narrow Mind, Adapt Body, 82 pp/day 15 (16) Psw 15: Craft Psionic Arms and Armor, Metaconcert, 91 pp/day 16 (17) Psw 16: +1 Wis (18), Form of Doom, 113 pp/day 17 (18) Psw 17: Improved Bullrush, Dispelling Buffer, 127 pp/day 18 (19) Psw 18: Monkey Grip, Breath of the Black Dragon, 141 pp/day 19 (20) Psw 19: Personal Mind Blank, 155 pp/day 20 (21) Psw 20: +1 Wis (19), Mind of Body, Suspend Life, 169 pp/day Perhaps some of the feats need to be rearranged... but I think this Half-Giant could be a fearsome charger. I'll get around to the Maenad Psychic Warrior tomorrow. Feel free to add your Psychic Warrior builds. -Jonathan http://www.geocities.com/jonathanef/gejoefight.txt |
| rakhir05-09-04, 01:45 PM | I notice that you grab psionic meditation at level 5, but you do not have hustle on your list of powers known... The synergy between psionic meditation and hustle is really to good to miss. Hustle gives you an extra move action (manifest as a swift action) and psionic meditation allows you to regain focus as a move action. Couple this with Deep Impact and you can make one touch attack per round. Alternatively, you can amp your damage with greater psionic weapon, once per round (at a cost of 3pp per round). Also, I think you may wish to add psionic charge to this build in order to increase the number of opportunities that you have to use psionic lions charge. I'd replace weapon focus with speed of thought and then take psionic charge at Psw level 6 instead of great cleave. One other comment, you might want to pick up Expanded Knowledge (Astral Construct). This does nothing to improve the charge focus for this character, but it's still a nice trick for any psychic warrior to have. You have just as many manifester levels as a psion, so your astral constructs will be big and bad. |

Otherwise, it looks good. I agree with rakhir about hustle; it and Psionic Meditation are a great combo, and damn near mandatory for any psi character that likes to use focus-expending feats. |

Before Racial Modifiers: 25: Str 14 (6 pt), Dex 12 (4 pt), Con 14 (6 pt), Int 10 (2 pt), Wis 14 (6 pt), Cha 8 (0 pt) 10 + 8 + 6= 24... Yup. Well I will rework the entire thing (but after Brunch). Suddenly Greater Psionic Weapon seems like it is 5 pp feat... I'm not so sure how much Quicken Power is worth because a lot of powers have a Quicken like augmentation (which happens to have the same +6 pp cost). |
| rakhir05-09-04, 04:13 PM | You could replace quicken with narrow mind and then take Expanded Knowledge (schism) at psw level 14. Schism allows you to do more or less everything that quicken does, with fewer downsides. Your second mind manifests 6 levels lower (just like a quickened power) but you don't pay 6 extra power points and you don't expend your psionic focus. The downside is that you must use your first standard action during a combat to manifest schism. You will want to use your swift actions during combat to manifest hustle and psionic lions charge. Most psywar buffs are short duration now, so it will be handy to have a means to buff up during a fight that does not use up your swift actions, or your psionic focus. Schism also gives you a second saving throw against compulsions, which might occasionally be useful. |
