Dipping is highly discouraged. The party mostly needs a skill-monkey, but also needs some tankage. Chameleon was my instant reaction, but it only gets 4 skill points per level; I figure my best chance is to ask for help here. ;) Also, any general advice for epic would be appreciated, as I'm extremely lacking in experience at those sorts of levels. |

The chameleon's power peaks at 12th level or so, although it could still be powerful in epic depending on what epic progression it is given. The chameleon is more highly regarded on these boards as a bastion of versatility rather than a skill-monkey tank. Although it can do the skill-monkey tank thing if it needs to, and do it fairly well, try not to fix yourself into that position. It could be that one of the other characters dies, or someone joins the game with an Uber-tank character. Generally, avoid specific feats like Weapon Focus (which become useless after a change of character role) and focus on general ones (the TWF tree, for example, can be used in melee or at range with throwing weapons). IMHO Rogue 3/Ranger 2/Chameleon 10 makes a good skilled start to the build. Your GM may see that as 'dipping', but with a good background you should be fine. At level 5 you were merely a multiclass rogue/ranger who was deemed talented and offered a place at Mimic Mansion. After years of versatility training, who knows what career someone would decide to follow? |
