I am going to play in a calimshan capaign and will take the part of the mage. I decided to play a gnome focusing on illusion and enchantments and thought a shadow adept would be a nice path to go. And best of all, this is my first spellcaster i play in my whole life ! :D

STR DEX CON INT WIS CHA
-2 +2
12 10 14 16 14 12 32pt
10 10 16 16 14 12 total

wiz: wizard
sha: shadow adept
ard: arcane devotee
*: bonus feats

01 wiz scribe scroll*, spellcasting prodigy
02 wiz
03 wiz shadow weave magic
04 wiz
05 wiz empower spell*
06 sha pernicious magic*, tenacious magic*,
insidious magic*, craft wand
07 sha
08 sha
09 sha craft wondrous item
10 sha quicken spell*
11 sha
12 sha craft portal
13 sha
14 sha
15 sha enlarge spell
16 ard
17 ard
18 ard twin spell, bonus feat*
19 ard
20 ard

As you can see i chose a lot of craft feats. Yeah thats not terribly min/maxed, but i think it fits the image of a gnome : building stuff, which will this character do - a lot ;)

As he researched new ways to create his machines, he stumbled over the secrets of shadowlore, and eventually gets cursed by mystra for this (the whole -2 wis thingie) and he's going to try to shrug it off.

I am not very fond of arcane devotee, just thought it might be a nice addition *IF* he manages to shrug off the curse by help of a deity or something.

Any suggestions to that topic would be pretty nice ;)

Hello Neonsamurai,
another attribute distribution could be better :

Str 10 (2) / Int 16 (10) / Wis 12 (4) / Dex 14 (6) / Con 15 (8) / Cha 10 (2)

Str 8 / Int 16 / Wis 12 / Dex 14 / Con 17 / Cha 10
raise con at 4. lvl

Feats

I would definitely take extend spell.
Do you need craft wands ? Perhaps you could change that.

Shadow Adept is not bad, but i think there are stronger spellcasters. It depends on what do you like
to play and whether you are playing 3.0 or 3.5.

I have magic user 2 characters i will play sometime.

1) Star Elf Sorcerer 10 / Master of Yuirwood 10
2) Cleric 3 / Wizard 7 / Mystic Theurge 10

I'm playing 3.5. I thought craft wands is useful, so i could place my main combat spells within some wands and free up my slots a bit. A wand of shadow evocation is kind of nice i think =D

I could substitude empower spell for extend spell, though i don't see for what spells except for mage armor i could use extend spell. Any suggestions ?

I need WIS 13+ to take shadow weave magic, since i won't worship shar (has to do with character background, shar just doesn't fit a gnome's personality)

Furthermore i suspect that my character will have to take some leading position since i doubt that the two fighters and the druid will have a reasonable charisma or roleplaying experience to accomplish that.

Which boils down to the score array that i chose. However i will think about this array :

STR 10(2) DEX 10(2) CON 15(8) INT 16(10) WIS 14(6) CHA 12(4)
STR 8 / DEX 10 / CON 17 / INT 16 / WIS 14 / CHA 12

Hello,
I think the second attribute array is better.

Craft Wand / Extend spell
Spells i like to extend :

Mage Armor
Shield
Expeditious retreat or Longstrider
Melfs Acid Arrow (against spellcasters)
Mirror Images
Invisibility
Haste
Improved Invisibility
Major and Greater Resistance (great spells from Savage species)

Empower spell is good with scorching ray in 3.5 but
in my opinion it is no must, but that is personal taste.
