A good Dragon Disciple? [Archive] - Wizards Community

It seems like Dragon Disciples pretty much require you to waste levels somewhere. Are there any builds that are really tight and have good progression all the way through? Feats would be nice as well. All WotC books are available to me, but no Dragon. Also, I know the Hexblade is likely the best way to go, but if you can find a way to allow the character to be good-aligned, that would be great. I haven't flipped through either of the dragon-centric supplements in a while, but hey, if there's a class in there that allows you to become a half-dragon, feel free to suggest that instead. I remember some that granted dragon-ish abilities, but I don't think there were any that granted the actual template.

Wouldn't the Duskblade, with its Full BAB, Armored Casting, and Channel Spell, make a good Dragon Disciple? Not as good as sticking with Duskblade until 13th for Arcane Channel (full attack), but still.

Gem dragons as dragon types rock, if your DM allows'em.

I've always liked Suel Arcanamach 4 as a prefix to Dragon Disciple, for the decent gishy qualities and selection of spells. Qualifying for Suel is the tricky part though.

Try to get in after you have the full ten levels of a fast casting progression class like Ur-Priest, maybe Divine Crusader etc, then use the extra spells from DD for 9th level slots. For dips I find 2 and 4 levels of DD good.

Something like an educated Hexblade 4, 1-2 levels of whatever you need to qualify, Ur-Priest 10, DD 4. The 4 DD levels will give you +3 BAB, +4/+1/+4 saves, +4 Str, +2 NA, 3 extra spell slots (level 9 spells!) and some flavourful extra junk - not bad?

As far as taking the full 10 levels of DD, Suel Arcanamach is definitely a fairly good way to go. That or just dipping for a level or two of bard. Might as well be a half-orc then, for more Str goodness...

One or two levels of sorcerer to get Truestrike & Featherfall (both can be used in armor with no ASF) and the ability to use a wand of False Life (and many other useful wands) will do any melee build some good. The Will save bonus is handy too.

I've always advocated Half-Elf Sorcerer 1/Half-Elf Paragon 3/Human Paragon 3/Dragon Disciple 10/Half-Dragon Paragon 3 as a fun build. Dump all those ability boosts into STR and swing away with Arcane Strike.

The only build I'm aware of to use three, yep. +14 to STR from a base without a penalty, before levels or magic buffs. The Bard is another option, depending on how you value the (very limited) spells vs automatic access to some Martial weapons and a HP bump. Personally, I find the Morningstar works fine.

I would second the idea of using Duskblade to get into Dragon Disciple. (Or War Mind, but that wasn't the question.) Just use your extra spell slots for Arcane Strike or the occasional buff or blast.

This makes me wonder how many paragon classes one could possibly fit in a build...

A gish incorporating Nar Demonbinder might be a good way to go. Take Arcane Strike, and use all those bonus (8th level) spellslots to fuel it. I'd use cleric for the base, unless there is a better option available now.
