A good Elan monk build? [Archive] - Wizards Community

Elans are not all that different from other races that they need a customized build. Any good general monk build (see Mean Liar's thread in the Build FAQ) will probably be good for Elan.

A couple differences:

- Obviously, psionics make a difference. Elan can make use of more power points to power their racial abilities (and, of course, powers). Elan Monk6/WarMind9/ShouDisciple5, for example, gets BAB +18, Saves of 16/15/8, 4th level powers, Sweeping Strike, Greater Flurry with any weapon, and 5 bonus feats (including monk bonus feats). Required feats: Educated, WF (unarmed), dodge.

- You could also go straight into psionic classes like pyrokineticist (or its element variants, like sono-kineticist). Elan Monk7/Pyro8/Shou5 gets BAB +16, Saves 15/15/8, Unarmed 2d6, Greater Flurry with Any Weapon, Greater Weapon afire, etc.

though the main strength to me is a pure monk-20 - quite strong alone.
but as you got psi-points, you can take all those nice psionic feats, which correspond very nice with a monk (ghost attack, metal leap, speed of thoughts, up the walls are ecspecially good).

also be sure to look into unearthed arcana for some monk variants - maybe some of them appeal even more to you :-)

Big if — while some Psionic PrCs require only a psionic reserve, the PsiFist (aka Fist of Zuoken) specifically calls for Wild Talent. And it's not that great a PrC anyway.

Your point about going straight monk (or something like Monk15/Shou5, for the bonus feats and weapon flurry) and taking the better Psionic Feats is a good one.
