Hello!

Sorry if this question has come up before (as I'm sure it has), but I was wondering what all you expert min/maxers would do if you set out to build an optimized Healer. The maximum character level I'm looking for is level 20, but it would be nice if the character had some "punch" by about level 15. I know the Radiant Servant of Pelor is one excellent prestige class to enter in order to meet this end, but what other suggestions or options would you guys suggest?

Thank you in advance! ^_^

*Edit*

EEP! I guess I should specify that I'd like to keep the race of this character human, and preferably with out any templates or other modifications to her race. Also, material can be used from any resources released by Wizards of the Coast. :)

My wife loves playing Mystics from Dragonlance. Kind of a mix between a cleric and a sorcerer. You only need to learn a couple healing spells and it's plenty for the whole party through all twenty levels.

Bards make pretty decent healers, especially if they go into Dragon Disciples, they get all those bonus spell slots for more healing spells/day.

Sorry, that's all I got. Mostly, my group doesn't use alot of healing magic unless my wife plays in a particular campaign. We all hate clerics. ;)

*Cheerfully pours herself a cup of hot coco and sits down eager to read the replies.*

Oh wow, thanks for getting back to me you two! I wasn't expecting any replies so soon. So lets see, what do we have here?

*Carefully reads over Cow Dragon's message first.*

Mystics huh? Oops! They're from Dragonlance? . .I'm sorry, I should have specified that I was looking to build a character for just traditional Dungeons & Dragons ( IE: Greyhawk/Forgotten Realms/Eberon campaign settings ). I don't think I'd be allowed to use any Dragonlance base character classes, but thank you very much for bringing the class to my attention.

A Bard's a good suggestion too, but I feel that a Cleric or a Healer (found in the Miniatures Handbook) might be better suited for a character primarily focused around healing. Thanks for the info though! ^_^

*Looks over Kharamakazy's message next.*

A combat medic? I've never heard of them before, but they sound interesting!

Just to clarify what I'm looking for, because I feel that I wasn't specific enough in my first post, I'm trying to create the most powerful "Healing Machine" / Party Supporting Character possible. This character isn't meant to charge headstrong into combat, she's meant to stay back and cure the party's wounds as well as any other negative conditions that may be effecting them. She's purely a support character, that would greatly aid her friend's efforts.

I've been looking for feats and prestige classes to help me create this character, but I'm having a hard time locating anything geared towards healing and revival. So far all I've discovered is the Radiant Servant of Pelor prestige class (found in the Complete Divine) but I was wondering if there were any other options or feats available to me.

Yikes! This ended up being a bit more long winded than I had planned *blush* Oh well. Thanks for your advice so far guys! Happy Gaming.

Do you mean the healer base class from the Miniature's Handbook? That...I'd recommend switching to Beloved of Valarian from BoED (still get the unicorn, and then a celestial charger), and let the unicorn act as your healer. Perhaps your DM would allow you to take Leadership and make it a cohort so that it can get more spells.

Because healers...well, they're far out of my league.

Well, maybe some type of theurge...

Combat Medic is a prestige class from Heroes of Battle, it ties extra beneficial effects to your healing spells (like aid and sanctuary, from memory), grants evasion, and lets you cast Heal spontaneously. There are probably other class abilities as well, I don't have the book here.

Augment Healing (Complete Divine) and Magic of the Land (Races of the Wild) can make your healing spells heal more damage (although you need Knowledge (Nature) for the latter), but I don't know if it really matters at L15-20 - I've never played a campaign to that level. Augment Healing is great at lower levels though, especially on the Mass Cure spells.

If you've got Extra Turning as a prerequisite for Radiant Servant, you might want to consider picking up Divine Metamagic feats, or Divine Spell Power (all from Complete Divine). Domain Spontaneity (Complete Divine) may also be useful with Radiant Servant - the free empower and maximise on healing spells normally only applies to domain spells, but it can be argued that when you cast spells using domain spontaneity they're still domain spells, so would be empowered / maximised as well (I'd check this with your DM first though).

I'm not at all a CO board regular, this is my first post in fact, so you should probably take the above advice with a grain of salt ;) Hope it helps.

Combat Medic (Heroes of Battle) is an excellent suggestion. If you have access to the Book of Exalted Deeds, you might want to look at the Vow of Nonviolence and the Vow of Peace - they good ways to get mechanical benefits from a flavor-based aspect of your character. I happen to like the Beloved of Valarian as well because Celestial Chargers are just plain cool - turning everything into frogs is also kinda cool :)

I don't know exactly how you plan on playing your Healer but, I too actually like the Healer class from the Minis Handbook with a few DM approved additions.

In our campaign we find it necessary to give the Healer class all good saves. We also allow the healer to cast spells as the Warmage does (IE, all spells on his/her list is a spell known and prepared). This gives them much more versatility eventhough they are minor mechanical changes. It also makes them much more playable.

A build that I have used several times is to incorporate the Apostle of Peace into any healing build. Apostles of Peace are the epitome of good characters and are a challenge to play but, the end reward is definitely worth it.

A nice build could go something like and is a variation on Minotaur's build:

Lawful Good: Human: Venerable: Exalted: Monk 4/Paladin 3/ Apostle of Peace 2/ Contemplative 10/Initiate of Pistis Sophia 1 (Saint Template Bought Off)

I love taking the 10 levels of Contemplative as they work nicely with the list of goodies that you get from Vow of Poverty, Peace and Nonviolence. Also, the last level (Initiate of Pistis Sophia) nets you a bonus feat which gives you another +2 DC to your Stunning Fist when used against evil creatures. This makes your Stunning Fist DC pretty friggin' high (as it should probably be your primary attack because it doesn't deal damage and it allows you to "defeat" an enemy without hurting him, ie. slapping some manacles on him).

I've played this build a few times (all of which are at level 20) and it is truly awesome. Your AC is SO high it's unreal, your saves are unreal, you are actually somewhat effective at combat with your nonlethal damage and stunning fists. Remember to always have your friends carry around several pairs of Masterwork Manacles (even planar binding ones work especially if you let your buddies carry them). Justiciar, eat your heart out...or don't because that would be violent.

Another option for your healer, could be to start out as a water shugenja.

It work rather nicley for a healer, especially if you wanna go the non-violent route, because you can use the water element spells for healing, earth for buffing, and air for the illusions, which can help stop your enemies/scare them away if need be.

And, if you do want to focus on healing, I really recommend the combat medic, it allows you to add buffs to your heal(like aid, and sanctuary), which can really help your party members safely get back into a fight after being injured.

Also, from an the optimization standpoint, you can safely leave the shugenja class after level 5, since there is no other benefit to it, other than being able to sense elements at a greater distance.

Yeah, Apostle of Peace is probably the most powerful prc in the game, it would be very difficult to roleplay effectively in my opinion. If your DM would allow you to watch your friends slaughter their enemies while you just healed them up afterwards, it wouldn't be at all bad though. Otherwise you'de probably have to try and calm everybody down and preach alot to them. While a Healer could easily roleplay that part, the Apostle would have difficulty.

If you're just looking for a healer/buff monkey a favored soul is hard to beat.
Nomad16

Favored Soul offers little to healing that a cleric dosnt already posses. They both cast heals spontaniously, other than that turn undead with divine metamagic twin spell (twin spell is in CA i think) would be better than FS.

The basic healer is Cle6/RSoP 10/Contemplative 4. Thats really basic but strong. As far as feat selection augment healing is automatic. Divine metamagic presistent spell is also handy for Vigor spells, but i think the best bang for your buck is twining a heal in a dire emergency.

I dont have much time right now i need to come up with some other builds tonight to go into an optimized healer. I hate healing, if i play a cleric you can bet on me beating somthing with a stick =)

Interesting Fact About the Healer base class. They aren't necessarily non-violent. They are armor restricted, but that is it. Their "peaceful nature" is their limited spell list.

You could be a multiclassed Healer/Warmage and it is well within your rights.

However, going pure Healer isn't a bad choice. Effortless Healing is pretty nice.

Healing Hands is a much needed low level boost, but Augment Healing is great!

Oh my gosh, there's so much information here! Hooray! Thank you guys! Ummmm. . .Where to start. . .

*Pulls up Ad Infinitum's reply and grabs her Book of Exalted Deeds.*

Beloved of Valarian? Oooooo! I like the unicorn! He looks pretty! ^_^
Actually, this class looks pretty interesting, but it me be a little too warrior-like for the particular character I'm trying to build. It's a good combination none the less, maybe one I'll use for another time. Thanks for the suggestion!

*Brings up copper_wyrmling's reply.*

Ah! that's twice I've seen "Combat Medic" come up! They're in the Hero's of Battle Book? Hmmmmm. . .

*Dashes out the door, drives to a local hobby shop, and purchases Hero's of Battle!*

Okay! What have we got here. Oh wow, this Prestige Class is actually very helpful! Thank you for telling me which book to find it in! ^_^

*Giggles* Ah ha, great minds think alike! I also thought that Domain Spontaneity would work well with the Radiant Servant of Pelor prestige class, but I never considered picking up Divine Spell Power. It's a really good idea! I'll need to read over the other divine meta magic feats. Thanks copper_wyrmling! For a first post on these boards, you were fantastic!

*Pulls up PhoenixInferno's reply.*

I'm heavily considering taking both of those vows Mr PhoenixInferno. Not necessarily because they benefit my character, but because I love the idea behind them! They really complement the character I'm trying to make quite nicely! Thanks for bringing them to my attention!

*Looks over Tweedledope's reply.*

Wow, I bet that a very effective build! It doesn’t quite work with the current character I'm building, but I'm actually quite intrigued by what you've come up with! ^_^

*Looks at Shar_Narishma's reply.*

Shugenja? Is that from Oriental Adventures? I've never heard of them before, But they sound like they could be good!

*Reads cowdragon's reply.*

Yes, I imagine an Apostle of Peace would be pretty tricky to play, but I bet it would also be a lot of fun! I had actually heavily considered taking some levels in this prestige Class, but decided against it in the end because it really didn't improve my character's healing capabilities.

*Stands up, stretches her legs, then sits back down to read ninjarabbit's reply.*

I looked at the Favored Soul, but was turned off by it because it didn't have access to any domains like the Cleric did, and I need to have the Sun domain in order to adopt the Radiant Servant of Pelor prestige class. otherwise, they're a fantastic character class!

*Curiously looks over Nomad16's reply, wondering what's listed in the chart he provided.*

This is actually a very solid build you've constructed for me. Thanks for taking the time to lay everything out for me! ^_^

My final build will likely end up being very similar to what you've outlined, but I may want to include some Combat Medic levels over the Contemplative ones. I just like the combat medic! (Not to mention I also just bought the book it's located in, and would feel like a complete nincompoop if I didn't adopt the class after making the purchase. )

*And last, but not least, Leetah reads over Neb Rybel's reply.*

AH! I wish the Healer base class could spontaneously cast cure spells like a Cleric could. If they did, I was going to choose it over Cleric. *Sighs* Then again, I need the sun domain in order to open up the Radiant Servant prestige class, so maybe it's just as well that I stayed with Cleric. . .But still, I have to agree, Effortless Healing is such a wonderful ability!

Houray! I think I have all the material I need to start making this character. Thank you so much everyone for all of your help! You all opened my eyes to a lot of new options that I never would have considered before. Thanks a bunch!

Last Errata i read vigor spells could be persisted. dont feel like looking around, but as far as memory goes they meet the criteria (fixed range, yadda yadda).
The last update i can find on the subject was posted in 2004. To my knowledge the vigor spells from CD are all acceptable targets of the feat. If you could please post a link to wizards material stating otherwise. The FAQ shed no light to the answer, it mentions that with extend spell you cant increase the duration passed the usual 25 rounds. A statement that i believe dosnt apply because with persistent spell you are taking the old duration of the spell and replacing it with the new duration (24 horus). Extend spell clearly requires the spells current duration in order to function, whereas persistent spell does not.

If you are going Cleric, get 8 ranks in Heal so that you can take Sacred Healing. Then you can use that at the end of combat to heal everyone up. Or during combat as a great way to stablize people out of reach.

Sacred Healing grants Fast Heal (I think 3) for 1 round for each point of Charisma Modifier. It is a Full-Action but it sends off a burst, so every ally in like 30 or 60 feet gets it (even you).

My brother used to play a Cleric 9/Radiant Servant of Pelor 10, until very recently (2 weeks ago in fact), and he was a healing/turning machine.

Basically, all you really need is Augment Healing and the Healing domain and you're set. The RSoP's Domain maximize/empower is a nice addition and the Combat Medic's (From HoB) ability to spontaniously cast heal can be a great addition.

Furthermore, because you're gaining Turn Undeads like mad and probably not using them, Divine Spellpower is the way to go (or whatever that feat is exactly called that lets you increase your caster level via a turning check).

My brother had equipment like a phylactery of undead turning, sacred armor and probably something else that let him increase his turning check, so he'd always have at least a +1 on his caster level.

My best bet would thus be: Cleric/Radiant Servant of Pelor/Combat Medic. With at least Augment Healing and Divine Spellpower.

I'll let others figure out the most optimal combination of levels for you.

Oh, and as a side note, my brother's Cleric was ruling the heals at level 12 orso when he created the char, so it does start early.

Hope it helps.

cleric 3/Church Inqusitor 3/Radiant Servant of Horus Re 5/Eye of Horus Re 5/Contemplative 1/Sacred Exorcist 2 ( last two levels can be anything really... combat medic... and/or divine disciple come to mind too... not to mention heirophant..)

It's the same as a RSoP/combat medic build... only with a lot more domain goodies... :D Only problem is that healing isn't in Horus-Re's portfolio, but he still gets the job done.

Don't overlook the Empower feat for a healer.

healing spells are some of the best spells to Empower because of the caster level bonus. Especially with Augmented Healing thrown in.

e.g. An empowered Mass Cure Light at 10th caster lvl w Augmented Healing does 31 to 42 pts of healing. Works great against undead too.

If going RSoP I like Cleric/RSoP/Sacred Exorcist. That gives full spellcasting and undead turning.

If wanting to do the Combat Medic Thing, you'll lose some levels for undead turning. But it would make for a better healer. I actually think Cleric 5/Combat Medic 5/RSoP 5/Sacred Exorcist 5 works well. The Maximize ability from RSoP isn't as good as the Empower ability (run the numbers and see), so after 5th the RSoP doesn't get much until 8th (the postive energy burst is only so-so, you will do more damage to undead with an empowered mass cure) or 10th (the supreme healing is nice). The 5th lvl Sacred Exorcist gets a permanent consecrated aura, which is realy nice, plus some of the other goodies the class gets (detect evil, exorcism, etc.). The consecrated aura is realy good if you fight anything that does vile damage, because vile damage can only be healed in a consecrated or hallowed area.

If you want raw pacifism, check out the "vivacious" template (recognizing this is absolutely against your rules). Basically you turn into an etheral version what ever your race is, as well as going etheral and gaining a positive energy beam and radiating a positiver energy aura. Charisma boost, flight, it is something to consider. It also seems to be in keeping with your goal (a character that looks and behaves like, well, a character).

It has, in my opinion excellent feel and flavor for a healer, as it is basically the embodyment of positive energy. Optimistic, energetic, creative, etc.

Two words, arcane disipline, a feat from Complete divine that allows an arcane caster to get spells from a selected domain. select healing and WHAM you get access to the two best synchronized classes to come out of the same book, battlefield medic, and war weaver.

War weaver is one of my favorite PRC's ever, me being the buffer that I am. once you reach lvl 5 you don't have to risk your butt to go heal the front line man, all you have to do is get basically between the ranged people and the melee and you have your party covered.

imho, arcane magic is much better than divine. don't hurt me.

I was thinking of being the one to stand out and go in the same direction. A Warmage6/RainbowServant10/SacredExorcist4 would have a lot of spells per day and spontaneous access to a crap load of buffs, heals, and blasts.

The only problem I can see is meeting your theme at low levels, but Arcane Disciple seems like a pretty decent fix. I just hate that you only get one of each level per day. Though that does mean you could use a wand or scroll... :D

I've been thinking about a healer character lately, just for fun, and came up with one possibility. Get your DM to add the Vigor spells to the Healer spell list. Shouldn't be a hard sell - they are Conjuration [Healing] spells. Take 5 levels in Healer to get 3rd level spells, then 1 level in Cleric or a PrC that grants turning. Take the Augmented Healing feat, and then Divine Metamagic-Persistant. If Healing Hands and Augmented Healing stack with the Vigor spells, then everyone in your party has Fast Healing 1+6[AH]+CHA[HH] all day.

Not sure how you would fit that into the other builds presented above, but it's something to think about.

*Ponders over what equipment to buy her character as she curiously walks over to the computer to see if any new posts had been made.*

Lets see. . . . . . . . .Yay!

*Reads aelryinth's and Nomad16's posts first.*

I think Nomad16's right about Persistent Spell on Vigor, but I'm really not the most rule savvy person around. It's something I'll have to talk over with my DM. Thanks for bringing it to my attention aelryinth! ^_^

*Reads Neb Rybel's post next.*

Ooooo! Sacred Healing dose look like a good feat, and I have two more feats available to my character before she hits level 20! ( Currently she's level 12, which is the starting level for the campaign I'm currently in. ) I notice the feat says it grants "fast healing 3 to all living creatures within a 60-ft. burst." Dose that mean it heals "living" enemies as well as my allies? *Blinks*

*Looks over Krispieman's post.*

Yay! It's very reassuring to hear that your brother played a character similar to mine with overwhelming success. I have one question though, is Divine Spellpower really worth taking for a character focused around healing? I'm probably missing something, but it seems that I would be sacrificing a turn attempt to heal about 3 more hit points on a cure spell. *Feels like she's definitely not grasping something.*

Oh, and Thank you for suggesting what classes I should take. *Giggles* I'm pretty much building exactly what you recommended. ^_^

*Scrolls down to Helmed Horror's post*

Cleric 3/Church Inquisitor 3/Radiant Servant of Horus Re 5/Eye of Horus Re 5/Contemplative 1/Sacred Exorcist 2. . . . . . . . .*Blinks*

Wow, this looks like a very solid build, but I few elements keep it from working on the character I have in mind. The first of which being, every time I look at the picture of the Church Inquisitor, I get the jitters! *Feels goose bumps crawl up her back.*

But more importantly, my character is neutral good in nature, and ideally a Cleric of Pelor, *Points to the golden brooch pinned at the side of her cape,* so I don't quite qualify for some of those prestige classes. Sorry, I really should have stated those points in my above posts. *Blush* Thank you for presenting me with the build though!

*Reads Father Dale's post.*

Cleric 5/Combat Medic 5/RSoP 5/Sacred Exorcist 5. Very good suggestions in your post, and I almost want to adopt this level progression, but I'm really more concerned about healing then I am about dealing with the undead, so I might drop the Sacred Exorcist levels in favor of completing the Radiant Servant of Pelor prestige class. I really really want supreme healing! ^_^

*Looks at her time and sees that she needs to run off to collage pretty soon. Starts grumbling something about how cruel it is to have classes on a Saturday evening and then quickly looks over Nomad16's post.*

Hmmmm. . .you bring up a good point with the Church Inquisitor, but I really can't see my character becoming one. She's more of the "supporting her allies in their virtuous endeavors" type rather than the "scowering the lands and up rooting evil where ever it lies" type.

*Peers at Shaken, not Stunned 's post.*

Vivacious template? I never even knew such a thing existed, and while it may not work for this character, it's something that I'd diffidently be interested in reading up on. Thanks for bringing it up to my attention! What book is it located in?

*Reads blooddemon's post.*

War weaver? I had never considered using that prestige class. I wish I had more time to look over my books and make a comment, but I can't right now sorry. I'll definitely give the class a look over when I return home later tonight. Thanks for the suggestion!

*Looks at slade_caizer's post.*

Warmage 6/RainbowServant 10/SacredExorcist 4? Once again, I'll need to look over what these classes have to offer before I can make any real comment. Sorry guys, I feel like I'm cheating you out of a fair response. Thank you for posting!

*Checks her time, then goes on to read Blade2718's post.*

Hey, taking the Spontaneous Healer feat is a good suggestion! Ummmm. . .But I'd still need to gain access to the sun domain if I wanted to adopt the Radiant Servant of Pelor Prestige Class, and I'd also need to have the full progression of the Healing Domain in order to make full use of that prestige classes special abilities. As much as I'd love to to make my character a Healer, and think she'll have to become a Cleric. ( Unless one of the above recommended builds turns out to be better than my current one. ) Thanks for the idea though!

*Quickly looks over blooddemon's post.*

Brewing potions is a good idea! ^_^ I'll have to look into what it takes to create them.

*And fianlly, reads over dog45's post.*

Yikes! That's a powerful combination of abilities. I wonder if I could pull it off. . . Good suggestion Mr Dog45!

All right, I had originally planned on posting my current character build here, but I really have to run. Maybe I'll be able to post it later tonight. Thank you for everything guys!

I may have mentioned this, but if you are FRCS, take Ilmater as your god. Healing and Suffering have good synergy for healing (and Suffering has access to good offensive domain spells). The initiate of Ilmater feat is awesome, too.

there is no better healer than a cleric 6/radiant servant of pelor X. Take the Sun and Healing domain. Feats should include:

Extra Turning (for radiant servant)
Augment Healing (CD)
Sacred Healing (CD)

Other nice feats (not NECESSARILY healer-driven, but good in a build):
Divine Spellpower (CD)
Nymph's Kiss (BoED, take at firt level!)
Purify Spell (BoED)

With this simple-yet-effective combination, you will be able to not only heal liek crazy, but you will be very effective at pretty much anything you want to do, since you will have plenty of healing outside your spells (with Sacred Healing), when you do cast a heal spell it will be terrifically powerful (with the various healing domain powers and augment healing feat).

Thus, you will have more spell slots free to do other nice things, like take combat or utility spells as you see fit. Adding Divine Spellpower makes you a kick-butt caster, since it will help get through SR and give more punch to your spells.

So while you COULD go for a straight healer build, this build will give you all the healing you could ever possibly need, with the added benefit of being flexible in every other regard.

Have you considered Vow of Poverty in a build? It can work well with a healer type.

Heres a suggested build for a human using Cleric/Combat Medic/Radiant Servant with Vow of Poverty. Note: in order to get all levels of Combat Medic and Radiant Servant, you have to hold off on taking Vow of Poverty till later levels. This means losing out on some bonus exalted feats, but all VoP abilities aside from that are retroactive. However, if you use Flaws, you could take Vow of Poverty at first level as the Flaw feat. For this build I will do that and have one flaw taken.

1-Cleric (domains healing, sun), Sacred Vow, Vow of Poverty (human feat), Combat Casting (flaw feat), Nymph's Kiss (exalted), Murky Eyed (flaw) (+4 sacred bonus to AC)
2-Cleric - Intuitive Attack
3-Cleric - Dodge (constant endure elements) (AC bonus +5)
4-Cleric - Exalted Turning, +1 enhancement to attacks
5- Cleric - (no need to eat or sleep)
6- Combat Medic - Augment Healing, Nimbus of Light (AC bonus +6, +1 deflection bonus) (healing kicker sanctuary)
7-Combat Medic - (defensive casting, field healer) (+1 resistance to all saves, +2 wisdom)
8-CM - Holy Radiance, Mobility (healing kicker reflex saves) (natural armor +1, mind shielding)
9-CM - Extra Turning, (Evasion) (AC bonus +7)
10-CM - Touch of Golden Ice, (healing kicker aid, spontaneous Heal) (+2 attacks and good aligned, DR/5 magic)
11-Radiant Servant - (Extra Grtr Turning, Radiance) (wisdom +4, Charisma +2)
12 - RS - Empower Spell or Quicken Spell- (divine health, empower healing) (AC bonus +8, +2 deflection, no need to breathe, bonus exalted feat)
13-RS - (aura of warding) (resistance to saves +2, resistance to all energy 5)
14-RS - (+3 attacks, constant freedom of movement, bonus exalted feat)
15-RS - Divine Metamagic (empower or quicken) (glory domain) (AC bonus +9, DR 5/evil, Wis +6/Cha +4/Con +2)
16- RS - Maximize Healing, (natural armor +2, bonus exalted feat)
17-RS - (attacks +4, resistance +3, constant regeneration)
18 - RS - Divine Spell Power (positive energy burst) (bonus exalted feat, AC bonus +10, defelction +3, constant true seeing)
19 - RS - (DR 10/evil, +8 wis/+6 Cha/+4 Con/+2 Str or Dex)
20 - RS - (supreme healing) (attacks +5, energy resistance 15, bonus exalted feat)

I don't believe you can Persist Vigor spells.

==Aelryinth

I believe in the FAQ it says you can.

It just says it won't heal anymore than the max for the spell, no matter what the duration is.

druid 5
master of radiance 3
combat medic 5
contemplative 1
radiant servant of pelor 6

magic of the land
augment healing
dodge
combat casting
extra turning
spontaneous healing
sacred healing

spontaneous heal (combat medic) allows a druid to cast heal as a 6th level spell instead of 7th.

MMm, I believe Persistable spells have to have a range of personal, and Vigor doesn't satisfy the requirement.

Personal, or fixed ranged according to my Complete Arcane

So personal or Range: 30ft, Range: 20ft, etc. Touch is not a fixed ranged, according to the FAQ.

The main reason for divine spellcasting is to make your buff-spells harder to Dispel. It's not like you'll be healing every round, and the 1st few rounds some spells like Elation (BoED) and Prayer always help your party.

Ofcourse, if your DM doesn't use monster who have Greater Dispel at will during every (other) encounter, you needn't worry, but my current DM seems to have a (Greater) Dispel prepared around every cornor.

Also, divine spellcasting helps you get 130-150hps from your heal instead of 120 (at level 12, assuming you have enough extra +turning equipment and charisma to make sure you always get atleast a +1), or 136-156 with Augment Healing.

Feel free to let me know what you've chosen to do in the end.
