A hard knock life question [Archive] - Wizards Community

10-02-06, 07:55 AM My elven fighter2/wizard1 died in last night's session. He was the party leader and a bit of a racial snob as he believes thuroughly in "the elven way is the best way". His dream was to become a bladesinger.

Well, the party couldn't afford to have him raised so they used the majority of their resources to have him reincarnated. Much to my chagrin he came back as a halfling. The DM would like me to not scrap the character and I agree that is probably for the best if I don't. I have decided to not change his personna and run him as the most elven halfling that ever lived. What I need help with is either finding a way to still be a bladesinger OR finding a way to approximate it with other PrCs. My original build had me with a +19 BAB at 20th along with the ability to cast 5th level spells. I would like to stay close to that if possible.

Any ideas?

10-02-06, 08:18 AM Keep going along the same path you have been but try to convince your DM to incorporate a race rebuilding side quest from the PHB2. If you can do that you can actually become an Elf again and everything is as right as rain.

10-02-06, 08:19 AM And if your DM says no, well, you could adopt the Spellsword PrC from Complete Arcane (or Warrior, I don`t have my books on hand), it has half spellcaster progression and 3/4 or full BAB progression.

Many of the other fighter/mage PrCs are superior mechanically to the bladesinger anyway. Just call yourself a bladesinger.

10-02-06, 08:54 AM Rebuilding is NOT an option and I support him on that. I have been looking at the Spellsword but my BAB will suffer. If that is the closest I can get though I will probably have to deal. I don't really like the class though.

Book allowed? Anything non-campaign specific (no FR, no Eb) and must be WotC.

Spellsword is full BAB.

So something like Fighter2/Wiz4/Spellsword5/EK9 gets you BAB 18, 8th level spells, some channelling (you can improve this with less spellsword).

Why not jade phoenix mage? Check out the Tome of Battle threads.

Feats so far? Combat Casting, Weapon focus-longsword, practiced spellcaster and dodge (I have 2 flaws also).

There is a three level class in Races of Stone to turn you into a dwarf, gnome, or goliath. You could use that as a model to create an elven one, but I get the impression that wouldn't be acceptable either. The best I can think of is finding a sympathetic elven cleric or wizard to cast miracle or wish. That would make for some good quests. A wish scroll is 28,825 gp.

Please be specific; it's likely the effect can be duplicated.

10-02-06, 12:44 PM Well, I like the fact that it is the epitome of elven sword styles. There is no effect that I specifically like. The songs are ok but not why I am taking the class. Sure, I could take another PrC and claim to be a bladesinger but if I encounter any real bladesingers they will know I am a fraud.

I guess I will have to either go spellsword/edlritch knight and try and compete with those I idolize or I will have to find a way to regain my elven status. Right now my biggest obstacle is the stupid halfling favored class of rogue.

The favored class thing isn't that big a deal, though it's irritating. Take two more levels of Wizard, then two levels in anything (Swashbuckler?) to qualify for Spellsword, or a level in a ToB class to get into Jade Phoenix.

You could also get into Daggerspell Mage if you haven't taken feats like (WF-Rapier) yet.

10-02-06, 01:36 PM I don't have RotW, but that does sound familiar. Regardless, it's a perfect flavor fit for him and advances caster level.

Fighter2/Wiz3/Rog1 or Fighter2/Wiz2/X2 into Ruathar — your BAB will be hurt by the PrC, but you keep casting going.
