I want some help on this. Does the ability score really increase and decrease in additional to the score bonuses?
Vow of poverty monk or not?
I'm going for the Chaos monk(DR #335).
It isn't a build. I'm not going prestige or multiclass.
Just a take on feats and the like.
All official material is allowed.

What do you mean by "Does the ability score really increase and decrease in additional to the score bonuses?"?

For VoP there's benefits for it and against it. If you're playing a low magic game, go for it. Typically it's better in lower levels, especially for defence, but when you get to the high levels, you'll get better returns from gearmo. Especially if you have an item crafterin the party.

I don't know anything about the Chaos monk.

As for feats, I'd suggest taking a look at this monk guide (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=48573).

It's because it increase in size, medium to large small to medium.
It already gets a +4 str., +2 con., -2 int., +2 wis.
LA. +1.
If it's true this is the final bonuses:
+8 str. +6 con. -2 dex. -2 int. +2 wis. +4 natural armor. -1 AC and attack.

I don't know anything about the Chaos monk.

Ask yourself this: does the Half-Ogre get those bonuses? Do horses?

Not every large creature has those stat modifiers. Unless the template specifically says to add them, the reasonable approach is to assume that they're not added.

The template specifically says that.

The template specifically says what? "You add the increases for becoming large in addition to the normal stat bonuses for the template?"

First I've heard of it--then again, given that it's Dragon Magazine, it wouldn't surprise me. Then again again, if you told me that Dragon had published a LA +0 template that added 20 to every stat and gave you clerical and wizard spellcasting for free, that wouldn't surprise me either.

If it specifically says that you add the size bonuses, why are you asking?

Because it sounds overpowered.

The magazine explicitly states that you get the bonuses for being large on top of those already granted by the template, though looking at what you already get for +1LA, I would say it is an honest oversight, plus I doubt any sane dm would allow it anyways. :)

Do yourself and your group a favour and houserule otherwise.
