THe only problem is that I don't have all the refrence material (and all the knowhow) that you guys do to make it work... but here is the basis. Lets say our litch has an item that is his phylactary. Now lets say that item is an intelegent item, the most expensive one on the DM guide list, which has two stats at 19, and one at 10. So lets make it int, wisdom at 19, and 10 for cha. Now we get a ring of polymorph any object, and cast it on our little intelegent soul holding cube into some monster that has 19 int as its base int (if u poly it into a human i assume it will have only 10 base across the board). Well anyways, bam it becomes that monster for a small amount of time. Now lets say that before all of this u took leadership, and u set it up that this intellegent item is going to be your cohort. So now (albet it for just a little time) you have a 18th level phylactary, that can cast spells if u say its a wizard, or fight with prowess if its a fighter. My questions. Any way to make this last longer/work better? Also would the new found freind house your soul still and its own... and how would the item ego work with your soul in it... also would it get its item powers if it was a 18th lvl character now? !! :) Please excuse my english/no flame for it. |

Cool idea, only problem would be the idea that the phylactry needs to be empty, to contain a soul. You could argue that an intelligent item has a 'soul' for the purposes of a phylactry. |

First to the other posters... Polymorph Any Object does affect intelligence; I highly recommend it for any scaled wizard caster, as it is pretty hard to beat the Sarrukh for intelligence; their other abilities aren't bad, either. However, an intelligent item is a magical item; they cannot be affected by Polymorph Any Object. A Lich's phylactery is magical as well, so it cannot be affected by PAO. Even if it could be cast on a magical item, the object wouldn't suddenly gain the levels you speak of; items don't have a huge number of hit dice, and an item recruited as a cohort is still just that item; it doesn't magically gain however many levels in Wizard or Fighter, or whatever else you want; the Cohort level is the max level you can recruit, not some kind of guarantee. |
