Painted Elf? What is that? And when you say "extreme shield" you're talking about the shield type from Races of Stone?

There are plenty of threads related to Tome of Battle floating around, I'd check them out. You can find our Index in the Posting Guidelines in my sig. I would pick either Dragon Shaman or Warblade and not multiclass between them.

I don't have Tob but I look at the Warblade class on Wotc website, and i would simply go with it over the dragoon shaman.

Painted Elf is in Sandstorm. +2 Dex & -2 Int.

Mechanically I would think that Dragon Shaman and Crusader would pair up nicely with some interesting healing & Cha synergy ... however I can see Tiger Claw with the Warblade too. Both have White Raven for synergy with the DS auras.

Breakpoint wise I like Dragon Shaman 11 a LOT better than Dragon Shaman 10. The ability to remove conditions with the Touch of Vitality is not to be underestimated IMHO. Warblade is a bit more iffy. Warblade 9, 10, & 11 all offer something but in going Warblade 9 instead of 10 you would loose both a redied maneuver and a stance known ... 8/4/2 vs 8/5/3.

Build wise I would go heavy on the Dragon Shaman in the early levels ... gaining most if not all of those levels before going into a ToB class.
