| Argentsaber11-09-06, 04:47 AM | Hello all. While I am not entirely lost when it comes to basic CO, i suffer a bit when i try to get too complex, so i am seeking professional help. :help: I have looked at several permutations for this character and would like some advice. He is currently rog2/ranger(urban)1, and is intended to be a combination sneak/face style skill based character. This character recently aquired a family heirloom katanna, so finding a method of using it with finesse would be grand if possible (basic fighting style will likely be twf with katanna and a ninja-to, ruled in this game as a rogue weapon) Books allowed are nearly anything 3.5, no 3.0, 3.25, or third party books (also no dragon articles). Also worth noting is that this is a slow advancing game, so the character needs to be viable at each level. He will be a secondary melee combatant, primary face, and one of two scouts, though fighting will be extensive at higher levels. human str-15 dex-18 con-16 int-18 (currently planning to place advancements here) wis-17 cha-18 my current advancement plan is: rog2/rng2/rog+1/master spy4/ronin1/monk1/shadowdancer2/theif acrobat2/scarlet corsair5 I am not entirely happy about the results gained... though i am especially proud of discovering (to the best of my knowledge anyway) that master spy completely cancels out the drawback to ronin 99% of the time. :incog: I am not truely tied to anything apart from my existing levels and base concept, though a way to replace monk with ninja (or similar) and still be an effective unarmed combatant would be good. Also, the katanna is effectively a ghost touch weapon... so ability to sneak on incorporeal undead would be neet if possible (as I understand it wands of gravestrike still don't work with incorporeals). :ghosted: My advance thanks for your efforts. |

If you're aiming at Uberness, make him necropolitan, to be a pirate ninja zombie. Take ranks in UMD and use any low level blast wand with quick draw to add a pinch of cowboy in there too. |

Same. the problem I see is the low stat synergy in your build. You could nab a lot of X stat to Y using the right things (classes, feats, equipment). Too bad, for instance, that the katana is not a Shadow Hand weapon, thus, preventing you to get Dex to damage with it. Ninja to could count as a short sword though... Rog 2/Ranger 1/Rog +1/Ranger +1/Swordsage 1/? 1/Swordsage +1/Stuff Could be a manner of adjusting the shot. You should also retrain to get the Able learner feat for those social skills. |

The real reason for the int boost is skilpoints. the character will be expected to be a scout and "face" character, requiring a vast number of skillpoints in addition to those required to qualify for various prestige classes. I love the concept of the swordsage from the overview I got googling it, but do not have the book.... any way someone can provide a link to detailed information on it to help me decide if I should get the book? PS: while i love hte concept of swashbuckler, i am really strapped for skillpoints, and can't figure out a way to lose 12 and keep the character viable at each level. |

Is "katanna focus" a class ability granting finesse or just weapon focus(next to worthless in this build)? As to shadowhand.... I am unfamilliar with this class, and the words are common enough that trying to google it is an exercise in futility (though dex to damage seems great). You are probably correct about my stat boosts; by enhancing dex, the character becomes more combat viable (further increasing my desire to find a way to finesse that katanna... i hope that is what you meant by "katanna focus"). Unfortunately, i do not follow what you mean by "Could be a manner of adjusting the shot." finally, able learner dosen't seem to be an issue with so many great skillmonkey prc's unless you thought i should abandon some... in which case I can't figure out how to keep my needed skills high enough. |
