We just started a new Forgotten Realms campaign and I made a Shield Dwarf. He will be a Hammer of Moridin from the Player Guide to Forgotten Realms. It is a combat prc that gets a good bab, cool abilities with a warhammer but no caster lvls.

Pre-reqs are weapon focus warhammer, 10 ranks in craft, +7 bab, cast 2nd lvl divine spells from Citadel Adbar and be accepted to the Hammers of Moradin.

Right now I am a lvl 2 character, 1 fighter 1 cleric. My feats are weapon focus warhammer and power attack. Stats are rocking (very tough campaign).
Str 17
Dex 16
Con 18
Int 14
Wis 16
Cha 13

I will not have a problem meeting the pre-reqs for the prc. My question is what route should I take and what feats?

I can go fighter 1, cleric 9
take extend spell, maybe a divine feat from UA and cleave

or

fighter 4 cleric 3, get a few more feats and get into the prc a few lvls earlier. Feat ideas, cleave, improved sunder. weapon spec, improved crit.

Let me mention that the group has 2 other "real" clerics, that are going all caster lvl's, 1 bow ranger, 1 sorcerer, 1 bard and 1 swashbuckler as our fighter

Thanks all,
joe

that you're party needs a "real" fighter and has a surplus of clerics. for the good of the economy you must play a ftr4/clr3! it also just seems better to me, seeing as you'll end up as basically a ftr anyway. the only argument i would accept for that clr9 would have to include the words divine and power in quick succession, but since you'll end up with plenty of b/a anyway, i'm teetering toward unacceptable there as well.

UNACCEPTABLE!!!!1

i was really just looking for an excuse to type that. if you do go with ftr4/clr3, what will you do with your other 3 lvls? allow me to recommend master thrower. "what?" you say, "master thrower? why, antonino, that's a prc for characters who throw weapons."

in response, i say "my name's not antonino. if you take the axethrower regional feat from the playa's guide to faerun (i'll never spell it any other way), and combine it with the 10,000gp gaunlets that, printed in that same continental guide for playas, that make all weapons you wield throwing and returning, you could throw the warhammer, and, on top of that, you could apply your str bonus to the atk roll! you could even throw 4 of them. actually, you'd have to, bacause of the way nonpsionic throwing works, and there's the rub. it'd still be cool, though, and master thrower is an incredibly good class."

The Hammer of Moradin PrC also gives a budding Dwarven Defender a solution to threats outside his threat area. Because they share the prerequisite of Endurance, it makes the DD a sensible next career move. I like the Master Thrower idea, kinda makes sense.

I would stick with Ftr4/Clr3, if only to hold on to as many tasty Fighter bonus feats as you can. I like the Powerful Grip ability of the HoM - as I interpret it, it would also give full strength bonus to your off hand attacks, so TWF is a more appealing option. Since a lot of the HoM's nifty abilities grant saving throws DC 10+HoM lvl+strength mod, having a big strength mod helps big time. Especially with 2nd lvl clerical casting...mm...Bull's Strength...
I wouldn't waste time with Metamagic feats though, you probably won't have high enough spell slots to put them to good use.

Fighter 4/Cleric 4 because Fighter 4/Cleric 3 doesn't get you the BAB +7 or higher needed to get into the Hammer of Moradin PrC.

Fighter 2/Cleric 3/Dwarf Paragon 3 might be cute.

Opps my bad on the math. Dwarf Paragon is right out. My DM has a odd sense on what is overpowered, so all paragons are out. Master thrower is cool, but the Hammer of Moradin gets a returning ability with a thrown warhammer, once per round. Good for closing I guess.

Regarding getting the extra +1 bab I forgot, what is better 4 fighter 4 cleric, or 4 fighter 3 cleric?

extra lvl in cleric gives a few more spells, maybe a better save (no books here)
extra lvl in fighter gives...

I guess a lvl in cleric is better at that lvl.

I had looked at the Dwarven Defender, I would only ne able to get a few lvls, if it worth it? I will need to spec it out when I get home.

Thanks all and keep the suggestions coming,
joe

PS Powerful grip, where is that from (HoM)?
