| ashideena01-19-06, 02:44 PM | As expected, my beloved stormlord bit the dust. Used Revivify on hapless party members in front of the dumb monsters one too many times.... Anywho, I was contemplating a replacement character along tankish lines. I came here, and poked around a bit searching for something good. Found a couple of threads that gave me some ideas, but nothing that looked really SOLID. So, once again, I make up a thread searching for specific help. I am allowed to make at level 12, just like the lowest level in our party. That means I'm eschewing some of the builds I saw that are just pure cheese(that, and my DM would kill me for trying to take chameleon). Pretty much anything is open, but I had a few ideas of my own to share. First off, I was thinking about Fighter 3/Paladin 3/Pious Templar 4/Hammer of Moradin 2. That would get me very solid combat abilities, a little spellcasting, and workable saves(except reflex, yech!). I was also contemplating something along the lines of Paladin 9/Knight Protector 3 because supreme cleave is great, and giving AC to an ally can be downright useful. I also contemplated a new twist(for me) on an amusing standby. Sacred Fist(instead of Enlightened Fist). Something like Monk 2/Cleric 4/Sacred Fist 6. Nothing too fancy there, but a solid caster in addition to good unarmored AC, and excellent saves. So, I guess my question boils down to this. Which should I choose on the basis of survivability, ability to protect the squishies, and ability to aid the partyin a general fashion(in that order of importance). And with each build, the feat choices are somewhat up in the air. I know for the Sacred Fist build I'd probably use Persistent Spell+Divine Metamagic:PS to get a persistent buff or two. I also know that for either of my (pure)melee monkey builds, I'd take Dodge, Mobility and Karmic Strike if possible. Please give this poor, addled soul a bit of your wisdom, Character Optimizers! -Peace out *Note: I've played many a fighter before, but that was mostly in 3.0, and the landscape has changed a bit since then. Thanks for your help! Any "must haves" for anything from equipment, to classes, to feats would be most welcome. |
| Xeraph01-19-06, 02:52 PM | Can you use Psionics? What are your scores? Which books do you have access to? Psychic Warrior 2/ Paladin 2/ Exotic Weapon Master 1/ Warmind 10/ Occult Slayer 5 is as tough as it gets. Ranger 3/ Fighter 2/ Deepwarden 3/ Dwarven Defender 10/ Occult Slayer 2 is not bad either. If you wan't to really stand up to spellcasters you might wan't to take a look in my sig. I have two builds in there which both are very strong against spellcasters and have alot of oppertunities for character building. Player Slayer and Mage Slayer. Cheers. |
| ashideena01-19-06, 03:02 PM | My apologies for not specifying scores or allowed/accessible books. I've got access to most of the books(all of 3.5, barring a couple that have come out just recently. Spell Compendium comes to mind). I could possibly swing getting my DM to let me have psionics, but he's convinced they're broken. :P As far as my scores(rummages through notebook): 18 17 14 13 13 9 Pretty solid scores, IMHO. I'll check the links in your sig. -Peace out |
| Khazra Reborn01-19-06, 03:06 PM | Rather then going all out tank how about going halfway? I love warforged artificer5/fighter2*/spellcarved soldier5 for a 12 level character...but they may just be me :D *paladin2 is also nice for cha>saves Pios templer/hammer is a pretty solid build. Fighter2/paladin4 is infinitly superior to fighter3/paladin3 though. Play a gold dwarf (-2 dex, not cha) and take divine might, its a nice bit of bonus damage. Dont worry about your reflex save, pick up a ring of evasion ASAP and just ignore fireballs. Its the save or dies which are dangerous and thats what your resistant against. |
| ashideena01-19-06, 03:24 PM | Ah, thanks for pointing out the Fighter 2/Paladin 4 flurb. For some reason I thought Dwarves favored class was cleric when I threw this together! D'oh! As far as spellcarved soldier..... where's it from? I'm not immediately familiar with it, but then again, there are a lot of WotC books running around. As far as "just ignore fireballs" goes, I'd tend to agree with you. I'm just not sure what good a ring of evasion will do me, unless I am hiding behind a tower shield or something, though. I'd almost prefer the monk/cleric/sacred fist just because of the excellent all around saves. Then again, I just got done reading the writeup of Xeraph's Player Slayer, and I almost wet myself with joy. The picture was completely badass, too. :D |

Warforged only PrC, full BaB, no caster/infuser progression, but some magic enhancing runes. A ring of evasion nets your paladin the evasion ability, as per rogue. Therefore, due to your massive saves from the Cha bonus and evasion, you'll be taking no damage on most of those reflex AoE's. Paladins (with charisma) will end up with some of the highest saves out there. |

The picture was completely badass, too. :D Why thank you very much! :D So, tell us what kind of setup you would like and we can help you with the scores. | ashideena01-19-06, 11:17 PM | Xeraph Hmmmmm..... I think I'd prefer the charisma based one, because I can rely on armor for my, well, armor class. And with the wilder charisma to touch AC(elude touch), I'm not much vulnerable to that. So, my stat block should be something like Str: 18(+1) Dex: 13 Con: 14(+1) Int: 14 Wis: 9 Cha: 19(+1)? And what kind of priority should I assign increasing dex vs. str and con. at level 12(from equipment)? I'm thinking fairly low, since I'm only a manifester level of 3 at this point, even though I do get charisma to my saves. Hmmm, perhaps a cloak of charisma and a ring of resistance.... And which powers should I pick? Just skimming I've gotten Biofeedback(DR can never be bad), Call Weaponry(so I'm never disarmed), Concealing Amorpha(yay, blur? ewwww), Synesthete(bad experiences while blind)? What would be the better/more flexible choices? And I'm assuming the race choice would be dwarf or another nonhuman as the superior choice. Especially if I want to utilize heavy-ish armor. Khazra and GaffeR Yeah, I just 'puted it, and my Reflex save wouldn't be THAT bad. The base save is kinda ugly, though(1, if I remember PioUs Templar's save progression, ick). It could easily go up to 9-10, tough. As of right now, Artificier 5/Paladin 2/Spellcarved Soldier 5 looks mighty tasty, and is backup because I think it'd be a blast to play. Sorry, the Player Killer is just too tasty a dish. |
