| Etador10-29-05, 10:31 AM | Hey, This is my first post here, I've been mainly reading all the posts in all kinds of forums here but I need some advice on how to build a metamagic feat master. Important, I'm playing 3rdE so remember things used to be different. I want the character to be able to twist magic as he sees fit, to be good in melee and to have the ability to spy on others (That's more skills and roleplay tough). The current build I have in mind in 5lvl Wizard/7lvl Incantatrix (My party is lvl 12 now). The build is going to be something like this: Stats (Human) Highest Con as I can get (Since all my HD are d4 and I'm planning a survivor here) Int comes second Dex and Str And Cha and Wis Feats Extend spell Maxamize spell Quicken spell Presistent spell Sudden Empower Spell Focus Evoc Spell Focus Ench Ancestral relic (BoXD) Iron will (Must have for the Incantatrix) Items -Metamagic rods (Extend, Maxamize, Quicken) All lesser -Skillful Katana (Means you have BAB of a cleric of your class lvl, complete arcane) And with the ancestral relic feat I can keep on adding abilities to it as long as I can fund them, finally a use for all those 5000 copper pieces just lying around because no one will pick them up (Gonna need a Leomund's secret chest for that). -Things to boost up my armor (Braces of armor) And my stat (Con and Int first) And maybe a cloack of resistance +3. I'm planing to have on me all the time (With Extend feat or rod) Bull's strenght, Cat's grace, endurance, mage armor. Also haste all the time with presistent spell and the Incantatrix instant metamagic (Meaning +4 to ac and extra partial action all day long). This means he will be able to enter any battle almost preaperd, and at one round cast three spells on him (Two from haste, one more from rod of quicken spell) Let's say, protection from elements and two maxamized fireballs (Rod again) On himself if he must. Or shield, greater magic weapon and miror image if melee is needed. Lot's of combos. What I need your help is in thinking of more combos that I can twist with this build. Also if you can think of a way to add healing into it (Other then the drain item at 10 lvl) That will help. Any other remarks will be helpful, also check that I'm not abusing the rules or misunderstanding them. One final thing, will it be possible, once I am lvl 17, to cast a persistent Time Stop with the feat and the instant metamagic ability? a 24 hour time stop? Thanks. |

The build is going to be something like this: Stats (Human) Highest Con as I can get (Since all my HD are d4 and I'm planning a survivor here) Int comes second If you have a spare feat - "mind over body" from Faerun core book allows you to use your int mod for HP at first level & gives you bonus HP for every metamagic feat you have. This should allow you to put int as highest and still have a survivable character. This means he will be able to enter any battle almost preaperd, and at one round cast three spells on him (Two from haste, one more from rod of quicken spell) Let's say, protection from elements and two maxamized fireballs (Rod again) On himself if he must. Also, I'm not planning to use two rods at a time, you can use one rod per spell but you can use three of them on three spells in one turn, if you can cast three spells, which I will be able to thanks to the haste and quicken rod that will give me three spells of 3rd lvl or lower as quickened spelles. Anyother ideas or thoughts? |
| PhoenixInferno10-29-05, 06:19 PM | Halruuan Elder has Adroit Metamagic (I think its called that) that lets you reduce the spell level adjustment of a metamagic feat by 1, that'll let you reduce metamagic costs even more. |
| Etador10-29-05, 09:05 PM | Where can I find the Halruuan Elder? What book is it from? |
| PhoenixInferno10-29-05, 09:45 PM | Halruaan Elder is from Shining South. What books can you use? In the Book of Exalted Deeds, there's a armor property called Twilight - for instance,a +1 Twilight Mithril Chain Shirt can be worn with no ASF. That'll give you a spot to add armor mods. Same for Mithril Bucklers. |

Persistant spell only works on spells with a fixed or personal range; a range of 'touch' is neither. This is well documented in the FAQ. But certainly take 1, 2, or 4 levels of Halruuan Elder (though it requires a few other feats of you; Spell Thematics [Magic of Faerun] and a feat from Shining South similar in form to the Ethran feat for the Hathran PrC [FRCS]) as that will net you one or two feats at an additional level off the metamagic cost. I'd suggest either Maximize, Persistent, or Quicken. |
