| SBD09-16-06, 08:35 PM | Edit: I settled on Monk since , I didn't know it, but we already have a Rogue. I need help optimizing this guy though, please help, stats and feat tree below I'm starting a campaign very soon and would like to make two new characters. As stated in the title, they'll be a monk and a rogue. I'd very much appreciate some help in optimizing these poor suckers that will be at my mercy to control. They'll be starting at level 5. House rules are: no multiclass xp penalties, extra feat every five levels in addition to the ones you get every 3 levels(which is going to be CRAZY) oh, and the stats are kind of high because of how we were told to roll'em. (which scares me to think of what the DM has in mind) This will be a skills emphasis campaign with a nice dose of hack and slash. All sources available except Book of exalted deeds. The Rogue... Well, thats the tough one. Highly dependant on skills on this campaign so I thought one would be a very good choice. I was wondering about going the improved feint route but wonder how effective that will be later on. Not sure if I want to use too many feats on skills, but as it IS skills heavy, yeah... I like the idea of using Craven (lords of madness?) and such, but other than that a, mainly, melee rogue (less I can find a way to use sneak attack damage from a decent range) There are so many feats for a Rogue it boggles me. I'm also looking for a good suggestion for race too, Human seems to fit the bill but if there are better I'd like to know. Thanks in advance for any help, I know this is kind of an odd one with some nice tweaking potential. It's just WAY too much for me to handle on my own.(I'm having trouble even building them to 5!) |

| gorfnad the shiznit09-17-06, 04:51 AM | Maybe something like this for an uber-rogue-ish type build 1. Rogue - Point Blank Shot, Craven 2. Rogue 3. Rogue - Precise Shot 4. Swashbuckler - Weapon Finnese for free! 5. Swashbuckelr 6. Swashbuckler - Two Weapon Fighting 7. Fighter - Weapon Focus: Dagger 8. Fighter - Far Shot 9. Fighter - Improved Two Weapon Fighting 10. Fighter - Weapon Specialization: Dagger 11. Invisible Blade 12. Invisible Blade - Ranged (or Melee) Weapon Mastery or Combat Reflexes 13. Invisible Blade 14 .Invisible Blade 15. Invisible Blade - Greater Two Weapon Fighting 16. Master Thrower - Quick Draw for free! 17. Master Thrower 18. Master Thrower - Rapid Shot 19. Master Thrower 20. Master Thrower Basically at level 20, 16 daggers thrown in one round with 1d4+3(plus str, int, and magic), 1d4+3 (plus str, int, and magic), +5d6 sneak attack +20 per two ranged attack (if thrown with in 30ft of targets). Melee is 7(or more if you have Combat Reflexes) regular attacks at 1d4+2(plus str, int, and magic), +5d6 +22 damage per hit. And for your rogue: http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=529135 |

And for your rogue: http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=529135 The build is good, but I wouldn't progress the class in that sequence if you are concerned with maximizing the rogue skills, otherwise you'll be cross-classing your search and disable device from level 4-20. Do it in this sequence for the 1st 10 levels: 1. Rogue - Point Blank Shot, Craven 2. Swashbuckler 3. Swashbuckler - Weapon Finnese for free!, Precise Shot 4. Fighter - Wpn-Focus: Dagger 5. Fighter - Two Weapon Fighting 6. Rogue - Far Shot 7. Fighter 8. Swashbuckler 9. Rogue - Improved Two Weapon Fighting 10. Fighter - Weapon Specialization: Dagger Every time you have a rogue level (1st, 6th, 9th) dump all his skill pts into search + disable device. |

I know this is suboptimal, but hey thats why I'm asking for help here! Feats: (bread and buttah) again extra Feats every 5th level (house) and no multiclass penalties Monk feats yada yada... Unarmed, flurry, stunning fist, Wis to ac... 1)Dodge 2)Combat reflexes(monk) 3)weapon focus (unarmed) 5)mobility 6)combat expertise, improved trip(monk) 9)Elusive target 10)Karmic strike 12)Pain touch 15)two weapon fighting 15)improved two weapon fighting 18)double hit 20) ... .. . yeah, I started improvising @ level 12 I have SO much to do on this alone still... and then figuring out equipment and stuff... sheesh. Thanks again guys! |
| ZeroEffect09-19-06, 11:00 AM | Invisible Blade is lame. Feinting is underwhelming, especially for a thrower. I'm not sure why people keep suggesting it. In a Master Thrower build, you want to get to level 5 Master Thrower as soon as possible. You also want to take the feats that allow you to throw lots of daggers as soon as possible. If you go with the build posted above, adjust it accordingly. |
