To anyone with the time and inclination, I would like to ask if you had any idea on how to build (with an emphasis on playability from low levels to possibly 20th level and beyond) an effective mounted combat PC using Shadowfoot's Noble Class (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=380229). Due to the proficiency limitations and the fact that the class's first level must be taken as a first level character, I'm utterly confused on how one would go about doing so without sinking a feat into Martial Weapon Proficiency (Heavy Lance). I beseech thee (okay, more like I'm groveling on my knees :p) of superior intellect and grasp of the rules to aide me.

I unfortunately do not have a copy of any of the 'II' books at the moment, but plan on procuring the PHBII ASAP, so all core+CW and other splat books are open. Any and all help will be very appreciated.

It really depends what features of the "Noble" class you want to get. Which ones were you really interested in?

For a simple mounted combatant, I'd probably go Noble 8/Fighter 2/Cavalier 10.

You might want to consider dipping into other classes to take advantage of Charisma synergy... Cleric 1 (for Turn Undead so you can take Divine Might). Marshal (for all the cool Auras that are Cha based). Paladin 2 (for Cha to saves). Hexblade 2 (for Cha to saves vs spells).

LG Human Noble 2/Cleric 2/Fighter 2/Marshal 2/Paladin 2/Cavalier 10. Take the Mounted Combat chain of feats, Divine Might, Extra Turning, and Extra Smiting.

LN Human Noble 3/Fighter 2/Hexblade 3/Marshal 2/Cavalier 10.

Any combination of the above classes is good. It depends on what kind of character you want to play.

Just to address your proficiency concern, the Noble class you linked gets three bonus proficiencies and/or class skills at first level (Cultured). The fact that exotic weapons are not excluded makes that Noble class a great one-level dip, unless you need full BAB all the way.

First off, thank ya'll for taking the time to help out. Second, thank ya psly4mne...completely forgot about the weapon prof part of Cultured.

The Noble 8/Fighter 2/Cavalier 10 build looks like exactly what I'm looking for. One question however...do I need to take the eight Noble levels consecutively and then the Fighter levels? Or can I do something like Noble 2/Fighter 1 to start (DM just annouced 3rd lvl characters at creation, 32 pt buy), and then take the 2nd level of fighter somewhere farther along the line?

Yeah... I'd go Noble 2/Fighter 1 or Noble 1/Fighter 2 to start.

I wouldn't completely dismiss the idea of taking Cleric, Hexblade, Paladin, or Marshal levels. In fact, I'd definitely take them (not all of them, probably just dip into one or two) unless there are some Noble abilities that you really want.
