| Korwin09-21-04, 05:16 AM | In an upcomming LE-Game I plan to play a Dweomerkeeper. (rules: only 3 classes, no matter if its a normal Class or PRC Thats would be ideal for the Cheater of Mystra, but I would feel silly to play a LE cleric of Mystra [even if I could, by the rules], so I decidet to play an cleric of set) Reference to: The cheater of Mystra http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=248239 human Cleric 5/ Dweomerkeeper 10/Divine Disciple 5 My only way to Polymorph is a Polymorph wand or scroll. So, should i still take the Divine Disciple 5 (for outsider)? (On the up side, Scalykind has Shapechange... but thats Lvl. 17) Downside to Mystra is: - extra Feat needet (no rune domain) - no Initiat of Mystra feat So, what was my question  Oh. Should i still take Divine Disciple5? If not, what else? Contemplate? Thanks. |
| dirkformica09-21-04, 05:50 AM | If you can take the Spell domain (Player's Guide to Faerun) you can use Anyspell, Greater to gain access to Polymorph, or better yet, Draconic Polymorph (Draconomicon) as a 6th Level Domain Slot (any 5th or lower Arcane spell can be prepared in that 6th level slot.) If you're not completely married to Human, you can use these variant versions of Aasimar or Tiefling in order to have the Native Outsider type without any +LA adjustment. (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/sp/20040213a) If you go that route, at level 12, 1 level after you get access to the Polymorphs, you can chose between these delicious Outsider forms: Kelvezu (Demon); outsider; medium; Reach 5’; Fly speed 60' (good); STR 21, DEX 31, CON 16; NA +15; Other Benefits: Poison (Injury Fort DC 19, 1d6 CON / 1d6 CON), Sneak Attack +8d6; source: mm2 page 60 Astral Deva: Outsider(Good), medium, wings, natural armor +15, speed fly 100ft(good), STR22 DEX18 CON18, MM p. 30 Barbed Devil, Outsider(evil), NA+13, large, str 23, dex 23, con 23, Impale: Deals 3d8+9 damage with successful grapple check to grabbed opponents, Improved Grab, MM3.5 Leonal, Outsider(good), medium, NA+14, str 27, dex 17, con 20, +4 balance, hide, move silently, Pounce, Improved Grab, Rake, MM3.5 I'm partial to the Kelvezu for the +8d6 melee sneak attack damage, however, the Pounce action from that Leonal can be tons of fun when you combine with Divine Power for multiple Fighter-esque iterative attacks. If you stick with Human and go the Divine Disciple route, you can still get access to all of this at 12 level (7 levels of Cleric, then 5 levels of DD.) Just make sure your Patron Deity has Spell as one of their Domains! And if you aren't in Faerun, here's a link to Sean Reynold's list of Greyhawk dieties and the expanded Domain lists they'd have access to with regards to the newer Faerun Domains. (http://www.seankreynolds.com/rpgfiles/we/greyhawkdeities.html) Have fun! |
| Korwin09-21-04, 08:15 AM | I know the spell domain. But Set doesn't have it... |
| Korwin09-21-04, 08:26 AM | [snip] If you go that route, at level 12, 1 level after you get access to the Polymorphs, you can chose between these delicious Outsider forms: [snip] A Cleric of Mystra 5/Dweomerkeeper2/Divine Diciple5 can do that too.  Ah, the temptation   to play   a Lawful evil cleric  of a good godess. Actually in Eberron i could (RP-wise), but it doesnt fit in Ferun (at least for me). cu |
| Aceon09-21-04, 10:32 AM | Correct me if I am wrong...but doesn't the Contemplative allow you to choose ANY domain so long as it does not conflict with your alignment? In addition to any domain of your deity. If that is so you could take the Spell domain. Or you could may be take the Alteration domain from Dragonlance. Alteration domain includes such nice things as: Polymorph, Polymorph Any Obj. and Shapechange (yummy!) Not sure if Balefull Polymorph is on there too, I think so. |
| Razorblade Smile09-21-04, 10:33 AM | It depends, are you playing a genuine (albeit evil) Dweomerkeeper, or are you trying to play the munchkinated combat machine that you find on these boards? If you're going for a genuine Dweomerkeeper, I wouldn't worry about the Native Outsider or polymorphing aspect whatsoever. It's nice, but it's primarily for combat munchies. Dweomerkeepers are students of magical theory and the arts of crafting magical items (which is why the Cloistered Cleric from Unearthed Arcana is such a nice compliment for them as opposed to the standard Cleric of the PHB). I'm assuming you're aiming for a clerical bent rather than a wizard one, too. Personally, I prefer arcane Dweomerkeepers, but that's just me. Anyway, for domains, Magic is a requirement and for your other domain, I'd look at either Darkness, Hatred, or Scalykind. Darkness gives you Blind-Fight which is always nice to have and it comes with a lot of great spells for that evil sorcerer vibe (darkbolt, prying eyes, and armor of darkness all ooze coolness). Hatred's granted power is rather meh, but it has some great spells too such as blasphemy and wail of the banshee. But for my money, I'd probably lean towards Scalykind just because I like the flavor of it. Plus it has shapechange and a few other groovy spells, and that's always fun. The other domains aren't bad either, but they're all kind of bland. I don't like bland. :) I'd also lose Divine Disciple. It's just a boring class, period. Contemplative comes with a lot of perks (bonus domain, Slippery Mind, etc.) and the whole aspect of having to have had a personal encounter with Set or one of his minions adds a lot of life to the character. Divine Oracle can be cool, too, if you want to compliment your magical expertise with divination spells. The fact that you get the equivalence of Evasion while still wearing heavy or medium armor doesn't hurt either. :D If you don't mind jumping classes, Cloistered Cleric 5/Divine Oracle 2/Dweomerkeeper 10/Contemplative 3 is a pretty solid build in my opinion and can fit in with that black magic vibe of Set really nicely. You get some of the best perks from Divine Oracle and Contemplative and delay your acquisition of Mantle of Spells just long enough so that you can snag one spell each from 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th levels with it if you so choose. For domains I'd go with Magic and Scalykind to start, then snag Darkness as a Contemplative. That gives you Knowledge, Magic, Scalykind, Darkness, and Oracle. Talk about a diverse selection of spells. :) Mithral chainmail, a cool staff, and some heavy robes (all custom crafted by yourself, of course) combined with the above will result in one very cool and powerful Dweomerkeeper as far as I'm concerned. Your mileage may vary. Oh, also, don't bother with the Divine Metamagic (Persistant Spell) and Extra Turning feats. They're a waste. Get Craft Rod and Magic Artisan, snag the normal metamagic feats (if you can, snag Legendary Artisan and Extraordinary Artisan if you get more than one item creation feat -- they work with them all, unlike Magical Artisan), then just create your own Metamagic Rod of Persistance. The cost for a normal rod is about 118,500gp on the market and a greater rod is about twice that. So that's 88,875gp/7110xp with Magical Artisan (59,250gp/4,740xp if you have Magical Artisan and Extraordinary/Legendary Artisan), and it'll give you three uses of Persistant Spell on any spells of 9th level or lower. :O Wowza. Since your forging your own rods, you can then move on to create your own Rods of Extension and whatever other metamagic feas you have. If you snag Item Familiar (from UA), you can even use your item familiar to offset some or all of the XP costs for the items you create. Sure, it comes with a risk... but it's a risk that really fits the character. :) |
| GoofsterStud09-21-04, 02:55 PM | Can someone explain this to me. Divine Disciple lets grants you Native Outsider status. Since they seperated Native outsiders you would only be able to polymorph into native outsiders. You aren't a true outsider so you wouldn't be able to form as such. So why do people think they van be a demond or an angel? I'm playing a dreomokeeper build myself and was just wondering. |
| allenchan09-21-04, 03:34 PM | Outsider is a type, (Native) is a subtype. I dont recall you being limited to your subtype. edit: Neraphim from the Planar Handbook are Outsiders with +0 LA and no stat adjustments. |
| Korwin09-22-04, 02:15 AM | [snip] If you don't mind jumping classes, Cloistered Cleric 5/Divine Oracle 2/Dweomerkeeper 10/Contemplative 3 is a pretty solid build in my opinion and can fit in with that black magic vibe of Set really nicely. You get some [snip] I dont mind, but thats 4 classes. (and only 3 are allowed) Btw. great post. Correct me if I am wrong...but doesn't the Contemplative allow you to choose ANY domain so long as it does not conflict with your alignment? If I remember correctly you can choose any domain of your god or his alignment [<-- IMHO thats for Set Law and Evil]. :( But if I am wrong, please correct me (would be - in fact - happy) ;) cu |
| Korwin09-22-04, 02:18 AM | edit: Neraphim from the Planar Handbook are Outsiders with +0 LA and no stat adjustments. I need 3 feats and i want ASAP into the Dweomerkeeper PRC. Since none of my Domains gets me one of those I have to be a human (or one of those halflings with 2 feats). |
| dirkformica09-22-04, 04:41 AM | Are you completely devoted to Set as your patron Deity? According to "Deities and Demigods," Set's clerics are supposed to be CE, CN, or NE. If you really want an Egyptian Deity, Anubis allows for LE clerics and has Law, Magic and Repose as domains. Apep also allows LE and has Evil, Fire, and Scalykind. Ptah, LE, Creation, Knowledge, Law, and Travel. Sobek for LE with Animal, Evil and Water. None of these seem all that promising except for Anubis. If you can use Forgotten Realms deities, you could choose Savras (The All-Seeing, Lord of Divination, He of the Third Eye) from page 104 of "Forgotten Realms - Faiths and Pantheons." Clerical alignments listed are LE, LG, and LN. His domains are: Fate, Knowledge, Law, Magic and Spell. This would seem to be a great choice for a Dweomerkeeper, especially since this Demigod lives in the Dweomerheart. ;) If you are using Greyhawk deities, then you could choose Wee Jas. He would also allow for LE clerics and his domains are Death, Illusion, Law, Magic, Rune, and Spell according to Sean Reynold's website. (http://www.seankreynolds.com/rpgfiles/we/greyhawkdeities.html) Either of these last two deities would seem to be perfect choices for a LE Dweomerkeeper to be, and any Domain list with Spell is a good one, IMO. |
| Korwin09-22-04, 09:32 AM | We use the Ferun Pantheons. Set in Ferun is LE.... (Mulhurandi Pantheon) Thot would have the same domains (rune, magic, spell) as Mystra. Azuth and Savras would also be alternatives, but all three are not Evil. (And for my first evil char. i want a evil god [esp. with sacrifice]) Velsharon would be evil (and he has the Undead Domain, which gives a free extra turning), but a Velsharon cleric would clash with the only non evil char in the group (a LN Kelemvor cleric). |
| Aceon09-22-04, 10:26 AM | If I remember correctly you can choose any domain of your god or his alignment [<-- IMHO thats for Set Law and Evil]. :( But if I am wrong, please correct me (would be - in fact - happy) ;) cu From the Complete Divine under Contemplative - Bonus Domain: The character can choose any domain made available by her deity or alignment. The first part is pretty straightforward, but the 2nd part, I am beginning to see the confusion. Let's break it into 2 parts for analysis. 1) The character can choose any domain made available by her deity. OK this is the easy part. 2) The character can choose any domain made available by her alignment. To me that means that if I am chaotic good, then I can choose from among ALL DOMAINS save only that which is restricted by my alignment, therefore I could not choose : LAW OR EVIL. That was how I first understood it when I read the Contemplative. That doesn't mean I might not be wrong, but that was how I first understood it. |
| Aceon09-22-04, 10:30 AM | Hmm, I think I can see another way of reading this. The meaning could be: "Choose any domain made available by your deity EXCEPT such as you are restricted from choosing by your alignment." But, in that strictest sense, if that is the case...then why didn't they just say so? |
| Sir Gummibaerchen09-22-04, 06:03 PM | You can use the domains of your deity or the domains that represent your alignment: law, good, evil chaos. It is the only way it makes sense. |
| Razorblade Smile09-22-04, 06:17 PM | Guys, you're missing the fact that Clerics don't have to worship deities. Read the PHB. They choose to worship an alignment (or philosophy or principle, etc.). That's what the text is referring to. You can choose any domain made available by your deity OR one that falls into line with the alignment you chose to worship. If you worship Set, you can only choose domains Set has available. |
| jtgalt09-22-04, 07:05 PM | Actually, if you're playing in a FR campaign, you have to worship a diety to obtain clerical/druid spells. |
| Korwin09-27-04, 02:30 AM | http://www.wizards.com/dnd/files/CompDiv_Errata09102004.zip Finally an Errata to Complete Divine. Divine Metamagic has new PreReq and works only with divine magic... But nothing about the Contemplate... |
