A question about Righteous Wrath. [Archive] - Wizards Community

07-18-06, 09:56 PM A lot of people have been recommending Endurance, Iron Will, Indomitable Soul, and Steadfast Determination for Frenzied Berserker builds so that they don't end up killing their entire party. But wouldn't Righteous Wrath negate the need for all of those as long as you always Rage at the same time as you Frenzy? Righteous Wrath says that while you're Raging you have no difficulty showing mercy and distinguishing friend from foe.

Sure, if you're good, visited by your deity, and perform the ritual expected of being "exalted".

Basically your DM needs to make it happen, if you work it by the book.

It's tough to play a good exalted character when your party members like to kill innocents for their gear :(

It's tough to play a good exalted character when your party members like to kill innocents for their gear :(If you play a game where your party members don't respect your decision to be exalted, then why bother being exalted in the first place?

That's my point. I once considered it, but it wouldn't have worked because the group I joined like to be evil.

So, rather than taking that feat, I go for Steadfast Determination.

Back to the OP - there are more reasons than not attacking your party to take Steadfast Determination.. For the character concept I'm working on, this feat will add around 14 to his will saves. Melee types have notoriously low will saves and casters like to take advantage of that. Steadfast Determination helps there, but Righteous Wrath does not :P

But while Righteous Wrath may allow you to think clearly while Raging and Frenzying, not only is the Book of Exalted Deeds frequently not allowed, but Righteous Wrath does not do anything for the Will save (as Auldar mentions). If you have Savage Species, but not PHBII, then you can use Cumberous Will to get a bump to your Will save - but it leaves you shaken if you use it. Steadfast Determination and Indomitable Will have no drawbacks, which is why we recommend it all the time now.

07-19-06, 12:45 PM As has been mentioned before in the interminable "why Frenzied is bad, mmkay?" threads, Righteous Wrath as written makes no sense when applied to Rage but perfect sense in regards to Frenzy. Just houserule it to apply to both.

Yeah but if you are raging then it would apply and would override the "attack your friends" part of frenzy as well. I would say if you were in frenzy but not rage then it would not work. I like steadfast determination better anyway.
