A question about the Sublime Sword [Archive] - Wizards Community

I saw a build on here a day or two ago using Paly 3/ Bard 7/ Sublime Cord 2/ Eldritch Knight 8. It ends up with +17 Bab, 9th level sorceror/wizard spells, and can cast in light armor.

My questions are what feats would be recomended for this build, I assume Arcane Strike, and Power Attack (if two handed) or Weapon Finesee (if light weapon) but what else, and since my books aren't here right now what feats are required.

The second question is can the same build be done with Hex Blade (evil game Lawful Good is a no no) and be just as viable, if I remember correctly that will give you mettle as well as the cha to saves.

And last how viable is this build. Seems to like it would have decent spells, lowish hp's. Understood it wouldn't be a front line fighter, but does it work well as a secondary one?

Well thanks in advance and any input is appreciated.

Try one of the variant paladins in UA. There are CG, LE and CE versions there.

Sublime Chords make the best Gishes around, but let me help you...

1st, get Turn Undead somehow. The best way to accomplish that is picking at least 1 levle of Sacred Exorcist. Go Bard 8/Paladin 2/Sublime Chord 2/Sacred Exorcist 4/Spellsword 1/Eldritch Knight 3.

Ini coparison to your build, this one has better hps and better saves. You lose immunity to fear from Pal3, but gain another +1 hit/dmg from Inspire Courage, plus more skills.

Now, do not pick Weapon Finesse. Always priorize your Strength over Dex when playing a Gish, unless you have 2 levels of Champion of Corellon.

In the case above, you'll need Power Attack, Divine Might (cha to damage), and Snowflake Wardance (cha to hit). Two-weapon fighting would be great as well, sicn it will multiply your damage output. Have the highest Cha as possible, because everything you do is based on that. It is, thus, your main stat.

Pick Devited Performer as well, if you want a 10th-level smite evil instead of a 2nd-level one.

What if I wanted to go Two handed sword with this build instead of two weapon (just tired of doing that) still pretty doable??

I've always been curious why people dont take a single level of Eldritch Knight before Sublime Chord, allowing for faster spell progression?

"From 2nd level on, when a new eldritch knight level is gained, the character gains new spells per day as if she had also gained a level in whatever arcane spellcasting class she belonged to before she added the prestige class."

that's why

This is mainly because of the odd wording of Eldritch Knight. As written, it can only be used to add to the spellcasting of a class possessed by the character before he takes his first level of EK.

Probably not what was intended, but there it is...

Yup, pretty much so. Too bad you won't have access to Wraithstrike... combining that to Power Attack with a 2 handed weapon would be neat.

Bur really, 2WF is just overkill in an mid-optimized party. You won't stay behind your party mates unless they're all cheaters of mystra or druidic legendary apes :D

or you could replace that level of spellsword with dragon slayer, which gains immunity to fear at first level. You would need iron will, but that isn't really ever a bad choice. Dodge can lead to spring attack anyway, not a bad way to fight as your BAB will behind the rest of your party on iterative attacks until high levels, and you'll have less hp than a standard fighter.

I must disagree. Your will saves will already be uber, so, both Iron Will and immunity to fear are dispendable. On the other hands, the major issue with this build is specially the lack of feats, so, one would better choose them wisely. Spring Attack is useful only for sneak attackers or warriors with huge movement rate - even then, I don't think it's really worth it.

I keep getting stuck with the reasoning that two handed weapon might be the way to go. It you go two weapon you will have both hands full when you go to cast spells (and yes there are many ways around this gloves of storing one example) it just seems more practical to use the two hander and be able to have that one hand free for spells.

Also by going with a two handed weapon you you free up like three feats (the two weapon fighting line) in a build that you already say has a lack there of.

(Another reason in the game I am playing in our DM has house ruled a feat that lets you get double your str bonus with two handed weapons.)

All in all though the sugestions thus far are great. (Love all the ideas Sang) I would have forgotten all about Snowflake dance. Keep em coming.

The problem is that Snowflake Wardance prohibits the use of two-handed weapons ("..any slashing melee weapon you hold in one hand.")

You can get around that by taking Monkey Grip and using a Large Longsword or Large Bastard Sword.

There are many fear effects that don't rely on a will save.
