A multi headed beholder.... it IS a head but the template only specifies.."can be added to any corporeal creature that has a discrinable head..." so the beholder becomes multifaced? since its large it could have 3 such faces. It could be a beholder mage and still have 2 fully functional anti magic eyes.... so how many spells is that? can someone please remind me where beholder mage is from?

personally I think this would LOOK really cool and frightening to fight... a huge ball of teeth and eye stalks floating... :D

Personally, I would say that a beholder has no discernable head. It is a fleshy blob with eyes and a mouth. Does an octopus have a head? No. It has a body and tentacles. Same thing with a beholder, IMO.

I view it like a demi lich.. its is JUST a head. Also if you look at the picture of it there is a definite classic skull shape, its not just an orb. It would look like 3 large human skulls joined at the back of the brain case...

still, just my opinion. and any tip as to the location of beholder mage?

Beholder Mage is from Monsters of Faerun

However, on a similar topic, the illumian would seem to be a good choice for the multi-headed template, as you might be able to pick up twice as many runes as normal.

I still don't think you'll get a better use then the Multiheaded Incarnate Warforged (which I guess is basically a two-headed Frankenstein's monster RP-wise).

And ya, I think the Mltiheaded beholder should work. How about a Half-illithid Lernean Multiheaded Beholder with Extend reach? Triple extraction, loads of spell-like abilities, and almost impossible to kill.

The one issue that might make things not work so well for a Multiheaded Beholder is, HOW DO YOU CUT OFF IT'S HEADS?
